Best Bets to join the 2018 class
quote:
QUARTERBACK
BEST BET: Tanner McKee
Spots to fill: 1
This one could go in a lot of different directions, as we’ve seen Alabama both offer and visit a number of signal callers in the 2018 class. McKee seems to be the best bet at the moment for a number of reasons: He’s uncommitted, he’s already made it out to Tuscaloosa to see the program this offseason, he’s told BamaOnLine that Nick Saban has told him he’s the top priority, and that the Tide is behind the fact McKee plans to take a Mormon mission for two years following graduation. Essentially Alabama has done nothing to hurt itself with McKee, and should it push, may in fact be in one of the best spots to land him. Again, Alabama is after a number of quarterbacks, so it’s hard to narrow this down to just one.
Other options: Jack West, Jarren Williams, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Jack Tuttle, and Tyler Shough

RUNNING BACK
BEST BET: Asa Martin
Spots to fill: 1-2
There are a few variables in play as to whether Martin ends up in class, with one being how the in-state back performs this spring and summer at camp, which would determine whether the Tide makes a strong push for him. Alabama hasn’t offered many backs in the cycle with one commitment, albeit shaky, in Dameon Pierce. Florida and Auburn are clearly ahead of Alabama as it stands, but Martin has said with the Bama offer, UA is in the conversation. Decatur Austin was one of new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll’s first stops of the evaluation period. The interest is undoubtedly there on Bama’s side. Martin is the best bet out of limited options at the position.
Other options: Zamir White, Harold Joiner, and Tavion Thomas
Well this one is interesting.

WIDE RECEIVER
BEST BET: Justyn Ross
Spots to fill: 2-3
It’s hard to put a finger on which way Ross is leaning between Alabama and Auburn, but considering he’s a priority target for the Crimson Tide, and Nick Saban is personally involved (see A-Day car ride to Bryant-Denny) the Tide’s chances are as good as any. Another interesting note Ross recently told BamaOnLine, his mother, who comes home from overseas in the next 4-5 weeks, is a Tide fan. As we know, moms are big decision factors in recruitments. Bama also has the luxury of linebacker signee Markail Benton staying in Ross’ ear at school.
Other options: Seth Williams, Jacob Copeland, Joseph Scates, and Tommy Bush

TIGHT END
BEST BET: Glenn Beal
Spots to fill: 1
Had you asked me a week ago who the best bet at tight end was I’d tell you Dominick Wood-Anderson. That was before the nation’s top junior college tight end visited Eugene for the Ducks’ spring game last weekend. It appears Oregon now is the team to beat for Wood-Anderson. The position isn’t a major priority after signing a pair in each of the past two recruiting cycles, but Alabama will still likely sign at least one. Beal makes the most sense looking at the offer sheet. Bama is high atop his list, despite him trending to LSU at 100 percent (we’ve seen the success Nick Saban has had in the Bayou State). I still think the Tigers are the team to beat at the moment, but compared to others offers on the list, Beal appears the best bet.
Other options: Jeremy Ruckert, Kyle Pitts, and Tyneil Hopper

OFFENSIVE LINE
BEST BET: Jerome Carvin
Spots to fill: 3-4
Not a month ago did it look like Max Wray was the best bet of the offensive line targets after he decommitted from Georgia following visit to Tuscaloosa. He’s now committed to Ohio State. Another offensive line target the Tide has been gaining steam with this spring is three-star tackle Jerome Carvin of Memphis (Tenn.) Cordova. Carvin says he keeps in frequent contact with offensive line coach Brent Key, and feels like a priority in the class. He will camp this summer, after which he will name a top five. Alabama is in good standing with Carvin, who the program is recruiting as a right guard.
Other options: Max Wray, Reuben Unije, Rafiti Ghirmai, and Jamaree Salyer

DEFENSIVE LINE
BEST BET: Jalen Cunningham
Spots to fill: 4-5
Cunningham says Alabama has a “really big lead” in his recruitment. There’s no timeframe on an announcement, but many believe the in-state defensive tackle will be the next to go public with a commitment.
Other options: Coynis Miller, Robert Cooper, Matthew Jones, Teair Tart-Spencer, Darnell Jefferies, and Max Wright

DEFENSIVE END/ OUTSIDE LINEBACKER -- JACK LB
BEST BET: Eyabi Anoma
Spots to fill: 1-2
It appears Alabama knocked the visit out of the park for Anoma on his trip to Tuscaloosa last month. A person close to his recruitment said following the trip that Alabama was near the top, if not the top school on his list. The 247Sports Crystal Ball reads in favor of the Tide at 100 percent.
Other options: KJ Henry, Andres Fox, Cameron Latu, Azeez Ojulari, Micah Parsons

quote:
LINEBACKER
BEST BET: JJ Peterson
Spots to fill: 2-3
Peterson recently said Alabama has the edge in his recruitment, in what's shaping up to be an Alabama-Auburn-Georgia battle for the nation's top outside linebacker. He recently made a tour of all three campuses, which he will do once again at the end of May. Peterson is a priority target for the Tide.
Other options: Quay Walker, Kevontae' Ruggs, Amari Gainer

CORNERBACK
BEST BET: Christian Tutt
Spots to fill: 3-4
Tutt said last month that if he were to commit to a program at that moment it would be Alabama. He’s now just a few weeks away from going public with an announcement on May 30. Both Alabama and Florida State appear to be in the best shape to land the Peach State defensive back.
Other options: Jaycee Horn, Josh Jobe, Jalyn Armour-Davis, and Patrick Surtain Jr.

SAFETY
BEST BET: Myles Mason
Spots to fill: 1-2
Alabama continues to evaluate Mason, but it would appear if the Tide staff makes a full court press, Mason will be in the class. Auburn has come on as of late as a real threat, as has Florida State. The Pleasant Grove (Ala.) product has backed off naming leaders in his recruitment, after having the Tide atop his list for well over a year.
Other options: Caden Sterns, Gurvan Hall, Joseph Foucha, and Trey Dean

PUNTER
BEST BET: Too soon to tell
Spots to fill: 1
Alabama will need to sign a punter in the 2018 class to fill in after the JK Scott era ends after next season. Decisions won't be made until the specialist camp next month in Tuscaloosa. Pictured above is the top punter/kicker combo in the country, recent Georgia commit Jake Camarda.

Last night Thomas said on twitter that hanging with the wrong people can mess up your future...seems too much of a coincidence

My Buckeye friend, who is really high on your Rivals' guys, is still confident he signs with Ohio State.

“Coach (Nick) Saban said he wants me, and they see me playing right guard for them,” Carvin said. “It was great (meeting with Saban). I met with him before, but not in his office one on one. It was just an honor, and he’s all about business. He doesn’t play around, so I like that about him.”

At least seven FBS coaches stopped Huffman's spring football practice Wednesday with their eyes on one player - defensive lineman Allen Love.
The 6-foot-2, 290-pound Love, a three-star recruit and the state's No. 19 prospect in the 247Sports composite, appears high on the board for some of the best Group of 5 schools such as Memphis and Louisiana Tech. Power 5 schools such as Ole Miss (also at Huffman on Wednesday), Kentucky, Louisville and Kansas have also offered Love.
But the next month is big for the player affectionately called "Big Love" around Huffman. The second-team Class 7A all-state performer received a visit from Auburn earlier this week. He says Sugar Bowl champion Oklahoma will visit next week and Alabama assistant Karl Dunbar is also slated to come Friday, Love said. Huffman's May 19 spring game at home against Paul Bryant is also sure to attract recruiters.
"I think they're going to offer me," Love said of Alabama. "That's an offer I'm going to wait for. He told me to keep doing what I'm doing, and the offer will come. I'm going to go to camp and get that offer."
Huffman has produced former Alabama greats Andre Smith and Marcell Dareus.
"Just something about that defense," Love said. "They put people in the league and Coach Saban is the best coach you can play for."
Auburn is another major offer Love would like to get.
"They're going to keep watching," Love said. "They're going to come back again and come back for spring game. I've been talking to (defensive line) Coach (Rodney) Garner a little bit, but really talking to (defensive coordinator) Coach (Kevin) Steele.
Love knows what coaches are looking for.
"They want to see the same intensity and motor, not take plays off," he said. "That's one thing I've been working on and something I've had to grow up on. It's been a problem, but I'm in better shape now. I've gained the right weight."
Love attributed that to eating right and working better in the weight room, along with making sure his breathing is on track. Sometimes, allergies will catch up to him.
"I can go all four quarters and can blow you off the ball every play," Love said. "I'm going to come back at you every play even harder."
Love said his current top five is Memphis, Louisville, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Kansas.
"They like the way he plays," Huffman coach Alex Wilson said. "They like the way he uses his hands and his pad level. When they talk to him more, they like him a lot more because he's a good kid. He's a character kid."
