WR Porter Rooks
Recruiting wrap: Alabama, Auburn, Louisville, South Carolina and Virginia Tech are just some of the offers Rooks has received to date.
Performance: The explosiveness and length that Rooks brings to the table was too much for many of the defensive backs on Sunday. He’s grown taller over the last few months and those extra inches made life easy on the quarterbacks. They had an easy time getting the ball to Rooks because of the separation he created and how consistently he caught the ball away from his body.

CORNELIUS, N.C. — Alabama recently offered Mike Robertson. A week before that, it was Michigan State. Minnesota was the school before the Spartans who made the 2020 athlete out of Hoganville (Ga.) Callaway that he is a target of theirs.
Close to 20 schools have now verbally offered Robertson, a football star who has a few more weeks to go before he finishes his freshman year. Georgia got it all started with an offer in January of 2016. The Bulldogs were first to offer and all of this attention could have gone to the head of Robertson, but it has not phased him one bit.
"It is great to get all of these offers, but they could be gone just like that too," said Robertson. "I really do not care about the offers and all that, but I just work to keep my head on straight, to get better and I really don't even think about the offers.
"As quick as they offer, the coaches can take them away, so I know I am only a freshman, so there is still a long way to go for me."
It did not hurt that Robertson had a cousin who went through the recruiting process a year ago. Demetris Robertson committed to Alabama, then de-comitted before taking his recruitment well past signing day and eventually signed with California.
The two are very close and seeing that all play out will only help the younger Robertson.
"He has just told me not to get the big head, to always stay humble and to keep working. He definitely has helped me. I took visits with him, I watched how he went through it all and he is someone who I can always talk to about it.
"We don't talk a lot about recruiting day to day, but I know if I have questions, I can ask him. Just seeing him the last couple of years though showed me a lot about what to expect."
Speaking of what to expect. Robertson knew what to expect when he visited Tuscaloosa (Ala.) for their spring game. That was the day he received his offer and he saw the top program that is run by Nick Saban.
"Alabama really has it all," said Robertson. "I love Alabama's style of play. They have a killer defense, a killer offense and I love everything that they do. They have great coaches, top players and it is just a top program."
The program that beat Alabama for the national championship has Robertson's attention too. He recognizes what the Tigers are doing.
"Clemson has had a lot of success here recently and they are putting guys into the NFL and winning a lot of games. The atmosphere there is great and they have some great fans. I have been up there once and I definitely want to go back"
Just down the road about an hour from Clemson is Athens (Ga.). An in-state program that plays in the SEC that offered first plays there and it is the school Robertson grew up rooting for.
"I have always liked Georgia. I have been in love with their school since I was little. I love the atmosphere there, the coaches are great and there is nothing I do not like about Georgia. They will always be a top school for me."
No school has taken the early lead for Robertson, but Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and you would have to throw California in there due to the connection are schools that definitely are on his radar. He could end up back at all four for visits over the summer.
The attention is something the soon-to-be sophomore has gotten used to. It doesn't affect him at all it only drives him to get better.
"I use all of this as motivation," said Robertson. "I know many others are out there working just as hard or harder than me, so the offers only push me. I don't want others to out-work me and stop me, so I want to out-work them, continue to be on top and that is all I worry about.
"The offers are great, but me being the best is more important."
He is definitely one of the best in his class. He is on track to be a prospect who could project to be a star on either side of the ball. Robertson is not really thinking about that right now. He loves competing and helping his team on both sides of the ball.
"The coaches tell me that they love how versatile I am on the field. They tell me that I could play any number of positions in college and that is what I hear the most. I really don't care where I play. I love both sides of the ball, so hearing that from coaches is nice. I just want to help my team win."

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Jordan Davis is committed to Alabama. The four-star defensive end is at peace with his decision, and everything seems to be in place. There’s no reason for alarm in Tuscaloosa.
None of that means that Davis is without a backup plan, though. He’s actually had one for some time. It’s firmly in place, and he doesn’t mind discussing it. Committed as he may be, Davis has established a clear No. 2.
“I’m most definitely visiting Florida,” Davis said. “I know Florida is No. 1 on my visit list. That’s where I’m from. My mom has really taken big interest in the Florida offer. She wants to go back home, so we plan on visiting down there, If anything were to ever happen with me and Bama, that’s the spot. That would be my option.”
The programs that will join Florida on Davis to-visit list are still being worked out. The list will be short, however, as Davis is trying to keep his recruitment condensed. Dates are yet to be set, but he has a few destinations in mind.
“I plan on visiting Tennessee this summer, but I’m trying to slim down my visits to only five,” Davis said. “I’m thinking about where I want to go with the unofficial. Auburn is in there, too.”
Davis relationship with Alabama is what you’d expect at this juncture. The communication is casual and comes often. These days, the conversations are simple check-ins.
“I stay in contact with them every day,” Davis said of his rapport with the Tide. “They just tell me to keep grinding and keep working in school. Just that kind of thing.”
RIVALS REACTION: Obviously, Florida has the best chance of flipping Davis, but there’s no telling what his upcoming visits may change. Stealing a player away from Nick Saban is not an easy task whatsoever, but it’s hard to brush aside the feeling that the Gators have a fighting chance in this bout. Things will become clearer following Davis’ summer trip to Gainesville.

One of the top prospects at last Saturday's Under Armour camp in Cincinnati was Dayton (OH) Dunbar four-star runningback Tavion Thomas.
A power back with speed, Thomas holds offers from most of the top programs in America. He is also a willing blocker and has shown he can catch the football this spring.
Although he is in no hurry to make a decision, Thomas said some schools he's interested in are Alabama, Indiana, Oklahoma, Ohio State, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Tucker (Ga.) inside linebacker Michael Harris was the state's biggest mover. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Harris earned a four-star prospect and is the nation's No. 9 inside linebacker. Harris is a natural playmaker. He is a punishing defender with great instincts. Harris also has a great frame, which will allow him to add 30 or 40 pounds at the next level. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Ohio State are a few schools to watch.

Lithonia (Ga.) Miller Grove Caleb Tannor's stock is soaring and he earned a fourth star. Tannor, a true edge rusher, can impact the passing game with his hand in the ground or standing up. He is explosive off the ball and shows great agility. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee are a few of the schools aggressively pursuing Tannor.

Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett signal-caller Jarren Williams impressed this spring. Williams, who decommitted from Kentucky recently, is one of the highest ranked three-star quarterbacks in the country. He completed 65 percent of his passes and threw 26 touchdowns and only two interceptions as a junior. He has good size and athleticism. Williams also has a strong arm and makes good decisions. Alabama, LSU and Florida offered in the past few weeks.

Georgia offered Harold Joiner yesterday.

I'll be honest, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if Joiner didn't play for Bama. If he only wants to play RB, then he needs to sign with South Alabama or UAB.

I don't know.
He may show our staff something his Senior season to justify offering him as a RB a la TJ Yeldon.

I wouldn't put much into my talent evaluations. I didn't even want to sign Brian Robinson because I thought he was too slow. He made me look like an idiot when spring numbers were released

You're spot on in your evaluation for Joiner based on Junior film. He doesn't show the ability to be a RB in the SEC. He gets to the edge due to being more athletic than most of the defense and out runs them. He doesn't show any "meanness" on the field.
He may be as a Senior though.

Myles Mason has played all over the field for Pleasant Grove throughout his varsity career, but he's taken the reigns as starting quarterback for his senior season.
Mason, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound four-star recruit, is still being recruited primarily as a safety by SEC and ACC programs. He'll still spend plenty of time in the secondary for the Spartans.
"It's just an opportunity to get the ball in Myles' hands on every play," Pleasant Grove coach Jim Elgin said. "For lack of a better term, you don't have to scheme the ball into his hands or play call the ball into his hands because it's in his hands.
"For us, it's just a way for us to make sure he has more opportunities to touch the ball. He throws the ball decent, but we're not going to throw the ball 20 times a game."
Last year's starter, Caleb Jackson, will use his speed on offense at a skill position. The Spartans also have Kobe Gunn and Tim Coats in the backfield who can make plays.
Mason said he played some quarterback as a sophomore before injuring his left (non-throwing) shoulder. The two-way player has been an offensive athlete, playing mostly receiver but also some running back.
"I'm an athlete who can throw," Mason said.
On the recruiting trail, not much has changed. He says that Alabama and Auburn are coming after him the hardest, but those two plus LSU, Florida State and Clemson are in his top five.
Those schools are expected to see Mason during spring practice, and he wants to make a trip to Georgia.
Mason went to spring games at Alabama and Auburn.
"Just to stay focused and keep doing what I'm doing," Mason said of what Alabama tells him. "(They say) safety, but Coach (Nick) Saban has told me that he's seen me play receiver. Right now, I'm leaning towards safety. That's what I've been playing mostly."
He chats mostly with area recruiter Brent Key and secondary coach Derrick Ansley.
"We have a good relationship," Mason said of Ansley. "He says that I'm a big priority for them."
Mason hears from area recruiter Rodney Garner at Auburn along with defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and secondary coach Greg Brown.
"When I went down there for the spring game, he brought me into his office and was breaking down video with me," Mason said of Brown. "He's got a lot of experience in the NFL."
Mason said his next trip could be to a camp at Alabama in early June.
He's aiming at a commitment somewhere before his senior season.
"I would love to, but like I've said before, if I don't think I'm 100 percent, I'm not going to," Mason said. "I want to be 100 percent sure."
