He thinks Bama is very high on Chase Young's leaderboard, maybe even a Soft Leader.

Thinks we take about 3-4 in the Secondary. With McKinney committed, other targets are Jacoby Stevens, Kyriq Mcdonald, Shaun Wade, Hamsah Nasirildeen, and Montaric Brown.

There's a story up on 247 about 5-star CB AJ Terrell from Georgia where he says we are coming after him hard as well.

I wouldn't mind getting Terrell, he was supposed to announce in September, now it will be a while before he announces.

Hank also said he sees Chris Allen as a Tim Williams type player. That was my question.

I asked the last question about who we will end up with on the Offensive Line. He said he thinks Kendall Rudolph and if he had to pick between Trey Smith and Wilson, he would pick Wilson.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Devonta Smith has made sure he’s gotten to spend quality time with Alabama quarterback commit Tua Tagovailoa off the field, and from the sound of it, the pair have gotten close.

Smith, a 4-star wide receiver from Amite (La.) High School, told SEC Country at The Opening that Tagovailoa is one of the most special kids he’s talked to throughout the recruiting process. Why is that important? Smith, who is down to Alabama, Miami, Nebraska and Mississippi State, will make his commitment on Aug. 15. The more time Smith and Tagovailoa spend with each other, the better Alabama’s chances are of landing the receiver.

“He’s a very inspirational person. He’s very uplifting,” Smith said. “I have never heard him be negative. Everything with him is just positive. One day, we were just sitting down and talking about God. We just kept on talking about God. It was really good because it let me know that my possible quarterback is someone that won’t talk down on no one and will always pick them up.”

Smith had a chance to line up at receiver with Tagovailoa as quarterback for several reps during the Elite 11 competition. There were plenty of major takeaways Smith had regarding his potential future teammate.

“He’s a great quarterback,” Smith said. “His accuracy is on point and every pass was on time.”

The nation’s No. 10 wide receiver doesn’t say much about his own recruitment, but he was honest when asked why he didn’t include LSU in his list of finalists. While Alabama is considered the overwhelming favorite for Smith, it was somewhat surprising to not see the in-state Tigers make the final cut.

He had previously said he needed to see more out of LSU’s offense. He wanted to see the Tigers’ offense open up in the passing game, but he didn’t see that on multiple visits to Baton Rouge.

But one of the main reasons why LSU doesn’t have a chance with Smith is much deeper than football.

“I just really want to get away from home,” Smith said. “I don’t really like being in Louisiana that much. I want to get away from home so I can explore other things.”

Though Nebraska and Mississippi State are in the mix, both schools should not be considered major competition for Smith when he announces next month. Smith said Cornhuskers wide receivers coach Keith Williams is one of the best coaches at the position, while the Bulldogs have consistently stayed in touch with him.

He has never visited Nebraska and does not plan on doing so before his announcement, though he said the school will receive an official visit from him this fall. He last visited Mississippi State in November. There are no future plans to visit Starkville just yet.

He will visit Miami July 15-16, and that’s the school that has a fighter’s chance with Smith. He was once a Georgia commit and now Mark Richt is the Hurricanes coach.

“With Miami, I have trusted Mark Richt once and I feel like I can trust him again,” Smith said.

The Hurricanes are going to have to blow Smith away on his upcoming trip to shake up his recruitment. If Miami doesn’t do that, expect Alabama to be the choice.

This will go over well if it finds it's way to the SECRb.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Jerry Jeudy is one of Alabama’s top wide receiver priorities in the Class of 2017, but he’s not ready to declare the Crimson Tide his leader just yet.

Jeudy, a 4-star prospect from Deerfield Beach High School (Pompano Beach, Fla.), told SEC Country that Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and Miami are recruiting him the hardest right now, but if he had to make a decision Wednesday, he knows why he would choose Alabama.

“Every time I go there, it feels like home,” Jeudy said. “They treat me like family there. The coaching staff has kept it real with me since the beginning. They never change their message to me. They tell me the same thing when I go up there.”

He expanded on his feelings for Alabama.

“The vibe around there is great,” Jeudy said. “It’s really laid back and all about business. The environment doesn’t matter too much to me.”

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder had a chance to compete alongside Alabama quarterback commit Tua Tagovailoa at Nike’s The Opening finals. The nation’s No. 7 wide receiver was impressed with Tagovailoa’s skills.

“He’s got a laser arm,” Jeudy said. “He’s a really confident quarterback. He’s very outgoing, too.”

Jeudy will take official visits to Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and Miami. The fifth official visit is still up in there at this point. He is expecting to make a decision after his all of his official visits are finished.

I'm excited about Shavers. He reminds me a lot of DeAndre Brown, except he seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

BEAVERTON, Ore. – The top two quarterbacks in the country according to 247Sports looked like the top two quarterbacks in the country on Wednesday during the first practice of the Elite 11.

Clemson commit Hunter Johnson and Stanford commit Davis Mills set the stage in the week's first workout for what should be a battle all week long for top arm status in the class of 2017.

Wednesday's workout was light. It featured throws on air, some walk-throughs with receivers and very little actual conflict for the quarterbacks in attendance. The best in the country needed to be able to handle the workload and nobody handled it better than Mills and Johnson.

Johnson comes into the week as the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the country in both 247Sports and 247Sports Composite rankings. He was consistent in everything he did on Wednesday. At 6-3.5, 200-plus pounds, Johnson has length, a strong base and looked comfortable making every throw. He's just consistently really good. He's got good repeatability inside the pocket and he spun it and delivered big throws as good as anybody.

Mills is the No. 2 quarterback according to 247Sports but the No. 4 pro-style quarterback per the industry's 247Sports Composite ranking. I expect the industry to get closer to our ranking by week's end if day one was representative of what we can expect. Mills puts his footballs on a rope. He personifies the John Woodenism of "be quick but don't hurry". He is always in control, feet under him, ball where it needs to be.

This is going to be a fun battle to watch.

The upper tier

Everybody looked good on Wednesday but along with Mills and Johnson, there were a few others that looked like they were a cut above the others.

Jack Sears – As much as anybody on the first day, Sears just seems to relish the big throws. He's comfortable making them and he can really deliver. He was close to the Mills/Johnson level. Duke and UCLA are battling for the California arm.

Chris Robison – The Oklahoma commit just does everything well. He had a complete morning and I love the energy and enthusiasm he brings to the quarterback position.

Tommy Devito – Syracuse is getting quite the steal in Devito. This kid delivers the ball quickly and he has a huge arm and he's going to be a perfect fit for Dino Babers in that vertical offense.

Around the yard

Tua Tagovailoa - The Alabama commit knows how to put some RPMs on the football. He throws a beautiful ball and looked sharp on Wednesday.

Jake Fromm - I loved the way Jake Fromm can change speeds on the football and show touch on the underneath stuff. The Georgia commit looks like a guy with good passing instincts.

Tate Martell - Nobody looks more in rhythm in their drops and delivery than Martell. The Ohio State commit has great feet, plays with great tempo and gets the ball out on time. He'll be a guy that will thrive in this setting.

Sam Ehlinger - Ehlinger is a really thick kid and broad-chested. For a kid that's in that 6-1 range, the Texas commit has the frame that has the strength to shrug off pass rushers and continue to make throws.

Sean Clifford - He checked a lot of boxes today. Clifford is committed to Penn State and he showed the velocity and accuracy on air that you hope to see out of an elite level quarterback.

Dylan McCaffrey - It's hard to know what to make of McCaffrey's day one performance. He definitely looked like he belonged but he never seemed to really let it rip. We'll be anxious to see if the urgency and velocity pickup as the week progresses for the Michigan commit.

Is Mahomes a senior there? Mahomes is a freak. Stidham will be a first round draft pick in 2-3 years.
