We got a CB for Nigel Knott and Terrell Hall

The CB for Terrell Hall came from a Penn State writer and the CB for Knott came from an Oregon guy.

The final updates to the industry generated 247Sports Composite player rankings are done.

There are 25 total five-stars in the 2016 class, 10 fewer than a year ago.

• Paramus (N.J.) Catholic defensive lineman Rashan Gary was the No. 1 player across the board, the consensus top prospect in the country. Clemson bound defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence of Wake Forest (N.C.) High finishes No. 2.

The only debate regarding the 6-foot-5, 293-pound Gary is what college is he going to go to? He returns to Michigan for an unofficial visit this coming weekend and the Wolverines are the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite. Ole Miss is considered the biggest challenger but perhaps his official to USC over the weekend changed things a bit. Alabama could get that last visit next weekend before a Signing Day decision and it’s never wise to rule out Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.

JuCo DL recruiting seems to be at an all time high for Bama.

2016: 4 offers
2015: 3 offers, 1 signed (Jonathan Taylor)
2014: 6 offers, 2 signed (DJ Pettway, Jarran Reed)
2013: 0 offers
2012: 2 offers, 0 signed
2011: 3 offers, 2 signed (Jesse Williams, Quinton Dial)
2010: 1 offer, 1 signed (Brandon Lewis)
2009: 0 offers
2008: 2 offers, 2 signed (Kerry Murphy, Terrance Cody)
2007: 2 offers, 0 signed

And 1 already offered for 2017, which I'm sure won't be the last.

I'm sure the highs can be attributed to graduation/declaration rates(and HS signee amounts), but you'd think it'd be flipped. High amount of offers early in Saban's career, lower now with the process in high gear.

Four-star Alabama commit Kendell Jones is picking up serious steam two weeks out from National Signing Day after making a huge leap in Wednesday's recruiting update via 247Sports' Final Top 247 Composite.

Jones improved his rating from 0.9420 to 0.9526 and is now the 11th-best defensive tackle in the country for the 2016 class, leaping four spots at his position and a tremendous move overall into the Top 80 (from No. 185 up to 79).

From Barton Simmons, 247Sports' Director of Scouting: "Jones is the best nose guard Alabama has landed since Terrence Cody. His nickname of "Hulk" is also the most fitting since "Mount Cody"."

At 6-foot-5, 375 pounds, Jones is one of this cycle's largest players. The Crimson Tide's current 16-member class is rated ninth-best nationally and fifth in the SEC according to the 247Sports Team Rankings.

From Justin Hopkins, the Oregon mod, on why he flipped his CB for Nigel Knott to Alabama:

quote:

It's my job to report the news as best as I can. Sometimes that's great news, sometimes that's not.

This one will fall into the latter category.

Since March I've had my 247Sports Crystal Ball pegged to Oregon for the Nation's No. 71 overall player, Nigel Knott. His athleticism and freakish upside have steadily moved him up the rankings since 'The Opening' in July.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder has been linked to Oregon due to a long-standing relationship with his father, who played under John Neal. Recently Oregon did an in-home visit with Knott and his family. That visit included head coach Mark Helfrich.

I'm told the visit went fine, but it was just that. Not really anything more. Furthermore the belief is that although the dad is fully on board with Oregon, there's serious doubt his mother is going to let him go that far.

Oregon fans have seen this play out many times before. Distance is already a difficult enough hurdle to overcome, the objection of momma is nearly undefeated. (Not for Landon Collins)

As such Alabama and Mississippi State seem to be in solid positions moving forward. Rather than flipping my pick to 'foggy' I'm rolling with the Tide on this one. Like momma, Saban is darn near undefeated as well. Especially when it comes to defensive backs.

I'll be changing my prediction within the hour of posting this update.

The Ducks will remain a hat on the table, but in my best prediction, they will remain just that.

I'm not saying Oregon is out, I'm just trying to be real about the chances.

Don't downvote the messenger.

The pic is courtesy of some dude on BOL who has twins that attend Nigel Knott's high school.

Apparently Andrew Bone said he feels Devin Asiasi will not be signing with Alabama.

A lot of their recruiting pitch seemed to be built on OJ leaving.

Now that he's not, that instant gratification called playing time is a little farther away...
