shite, I hope Pruitt doesn't come in and start butting heads with folks. Saban will shut it down quick, but I really wanted Pruitt to work.

Not surprising with the Pettito hire and subsequent de-commitment, but we got two CBs for Devonta Smith from Kipp Adams and Trey Scott.

I didn't realize he was ranked as high as he is either. He's the #57 ranked player overall on 247 and #86 in the Composite.

Sunseri stuff is interesting, not sure how many time you can go back to that well. Then again, he hired Thompson 3 separate times

Smart has a nice guy attitude, you never heard a bad word about him. Now Pruitt, just a few things

These kids. I swear. Devonta Smith had this to say about the Pettito hire right after it was announced:

quote:

Was Petitto the reason Smith committed to the Bulldogs last summer?

“Not really,” Smith said. “It’s really just that I felt like I was home when I went up there, but him being there pretty much had something to do with it.”

Smith has kept an open mind in his recruitment despite his commitment. He touched on whether Petitto with the Crimson Tide will affect his status with the Bulldogs.

“I’ve always looked at Alabama, but right now I wouldn’t really say him being there makes me look into it more,” Smith said.

He de-committed before BOL could even type up the conversation.

Shyheim Carter tidbit:

quote:

"After decommitting from Alabama in August there was a lot of speculation that Carter would wind up at Georgia due to his strong relationship with Pruitt, Sam Petitto and his good friend Devonta Smith onboard with the Bulldogs,” South said. “Fast forward five months, Pruitt and Petitto are in Tuscaloosa and Alabama is still in need of a cornerback in its 2016 class. With Smith decommitting from Georgia [Thursday], and Carter's good friend Josh Perry committed to the Tide, it appears Alabama has serious momentum going into the final stretch of the recruiting season."

It'd be nice to have him back in the fold. He was a beast for his team this past season in leading them to a state championship.

Alabama football coach Nick Saban pulled a page from the Sean Payton book of big-game coaching -- copyright pending -- in Monday's national title game win over Clemson. However, even though they might have authored similar words, Saban's gamble was written in much different ink, and Payton took notice.

“The difference, holy cow, it was well executed. Easy to see,” Payton said, via ESPN's Mike Triplett. “Ours collisioned off somebody and was in a pile for about eight minutes.”

Of course, Payton's remembering his famous onside kick, which came on his game's biggest stage as well in 2010. A few differences stand out, besides how clean Alabama's kick recovery was. The Saints weren't tied, but were down 10-6 coming out of halftime. Instead of having just scored and feeding off that energy like on Monday, Payton was looking to create some good energy of his own.

The risk paid off as the Saints took the lead on that drive and ended up winning the game, which is similar to Monday's result. Whatever their differences and similarities, the Saints head coach admired the execution of the Alabama onside kick.

“But the kick and catch was something else, wasn’t it?” he said.

“The timing of it, it was a huge, huge play. I’m telling you what, it was significant in their win.”

Two great coaches linked by a hunch, as one admires from afar. In that regard, they are on the same page.

As a fan of both of these teams I gotta say it sure feels good to have been on the right side of those two kicks.

I walk in to my well-informed Bama buddy's office at work to hear about his National Championship experience in AZ, and pulled up on his computer is Chris Kiffen's bio from OleMissSports.com I asked him what he was looking at, half jokingly. He quickly closed the tab and he said Chris is with Lane in Tuscaloosa now. Apparently they have an LB coach position open and Chris could be a target. This could be complete bullshite, and it is a lateral position-coach move but Alabama for damn sure pays assistants better and Chris has a great recruiting reputation. My buddy said "I'm pretty sure we haven't hired him yet, or anything." Damn Gumps.

From Steve Wiltfong:

• Outside of perhaps LSU, in my opinion there won’t be a school that finishes stronger than Alabama as they aim for a sixth-straight 247Sports Recruiting National Championship. The next three weekends are stacked with touted recruits coming to Tuscaloosa. The most exciting recruit visiting Alabama this weekend is Top100 receiver A.J. Brown, who going back to the spring I’ve felt could easily end up part of the Crimson Tide’s class. Alabama is going to have a great chance to sign former Oregon commit in defensive back Jared Mayden. USC is considered the favorite for Top50 cornerback Jack Jones but if any school could change that it’s likely Alabama. The Crimson Tide are the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite for receiver Keith Gavin, same thing with receiver Mykel Jones and tight end Nick Eubanks. Florida State running back commit Amir Rasul visits, one of the fastest players in the country. Florida linebacker commit Vosean Joseph is visiting as well.

As someone said earlier, Lane didn't even hire his brother when he left UT for USCw. However, he is a fricking fantastic recruiter and it would help tremendously with Jeffery Simmons.

Alabama is making it clear that Jaleel Laguins is a wanted man in Tuscaloosa.

Laguins, a four-star Georgia linebacker commit from Oconee County High School (Watkinsville, Ga.), welcomed both Nick Saban and Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt into his home on Thursday. Laguins joked that he felt a little uneasy at first.

“It was definitely the first time I was uncomfortable in my own house,” Laguins laughed. “Just the intimidation of having Nick Saban in your living room — that right there just makes you want to sit upright. I’m in my own house, and I’m supposed to walk around in my boxers, but no, I had to put on some khakis and a button down.”

The 6-foot-2, 209-pounder told SEC Country that the meeting between him, his family and the Alabama coaches lasted around 45 minutes. In that time, the Crimson Tide made inroads at potentially flipping his commitment down the road.

“I would say it has improved, especially with Nick Saban coming into my house,” Laguins said. “Having the head coach himself coming to see you lets you know that you aren’t just a number. You’re a guy that they want. The same can be said for Smart when he comes to my house. That just lets me know that I’m not a number.”

Alabama was the first school to stop by his home. The U.S. Army All-American said Georgia assistant Glenn Schumann is supposed to stop by his high school on Friday before Laguins heads to Florida for an official visit. He did say that Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart is supposed to have an in-home visit next week when he returns from Gainesville.

As far as his status with his commitment to Georgia, Laguins said he is still solid with the Bulldogs.

“I am committed to Georgia, but I am still going to take my official visits,” he said.

The Rivals.com analysts have spent much of the past month on the road attending all-star games and practices. Here, all of the analysts give their thoughts on a couple final questions regarding the all-star season.

Who did you come away from the all-star games thinking "I was totally wrong about this kid" in either a good or bad way?

Rob Cassidy, Southeast: Quinnen Williams was ranked as a three-star prospect heading into the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game and put on a show once he arrived. Williams was clearly one of the best defensive linemen present at an event loaded with talent at the position and dominated most practices. His combination of size and quickness is rare.

With the recruiting dead period effectively ending on Wednesday, coach Nick Saban and his staff will look to make a strong push to secure a few more verbal commitments as several targets, both committed and uncommitted, are slated to take official visits to Tuscaloosa beginning this weekend. The Crimson Tide are expected to host 17 visitors starting on Friday.

SEC Country examined the top targets below.

A.J. Brown, four-star wide receiver, Starkville, Miss. — It would appear that Brown is down to Alabama, Mississippi State and Ole Miss, though California is still in the mix. He told SEC Country in December that he was drooling when he had a chance to meet Nick Saban in his office. Alabama’s chances to land their biggest remaining wide receiver target look promising.

Keith Gavin, four-star wide receiver, Crawfordville, Fla. — Gavin told SEC Country that Florida State is his dream school, but that isn’t stopping him from visiting Alabama. The four-star prospect said he will choose between FSU and Bama when he does make his commitment. From his conversation, it did seem like the Seminoles held the edge over the Crimson Tide. That could change this weekend if Alabama knocks his official visit out-of-the-park.

Jared Mayden, four-star cornerback, Sachse, Texas — Mayden recently de-committed from Oregon, and he’ll visit Alabama this weekend. Before committing to Oregon, Alabama was one of Mayden’s finalists. He’ll be one to monitor closely down the stretch.

Jack Jones, four-star athlete, Long Beach, Calif. — Alabama coaches are pitching Jones to be the next Cyrus Jones, and he likes what he’s hearing. The Crimson Tide staff has told Jones that he can play corner, wide receiver and be a kick/punt returner. The California native’s trip to Tuscaloosa this weekend will be his first.

The 2016 college football recruiting cycle continues to wind down, and we're now less than three weeks shy of national signing day. This final stretch will be defined by pivotal official visits, late pursuits from new coaching staffs and, undoubtedly, some surprises.

While many of America's marquee high school prospects already announced collegiate commitments or actually enrolled on campus early, 10 5-star recruits remain undecided. Many of these athletes started to receive substantial amounts of scholarship offers as underclassmen, so it's a process that extends years for them and their families.

We examined the recruitments of these top-tier talents, identifying leading contenders and wild-card candidates for each prized prospect at this point.

ATH Demetris Robertson

High School: Savannah Christian Prep (Savannah, Georgia)

Size: 5'11.75", 175 lbs

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 2 athlete; No. 24 overall

Demetris Robertson, one of three Peach State prospects on this list, emerged as a national star relatively early on the recruiting trail and committed to Alabama in July 2014. He reopened his recruitment last spring and continued to validate the hype as a senior (1,043 rushing yards, 41 tackles, two interceptions and 13 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps).

Leader: Georgia Bulldogs

Head coach Kirby Smart aims to make an immediate impact with limited time to recruit top players to Athens. Battles on home turf are paramount, and he carries longstanding familiarity with Robertson thanks to his tenure as defensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The combination of a strong coaching hire and program proximity put Georgia in position to pick up a playmaker once destined for Tuscaloosa.

"It is in-state, my family is around. A big thing for my mom - she wants to come see my games because she has not ever really seen them before," Robertson told Kipp Adams of 247Sports. "I think Kirby Smart is going to do a great job building the program."

Wild Card: Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Stanford is another intriguing option beyond SEC territory, but a successful early-season official visit to South Bend and continued dialogue between Robertson and Notre Dame's staff loom large in this recruitment. During his time on campus, he tweeted the Irish want him to replace NFL-bound wide receiver Will Fuller.

Well they got this one wrong.
