Not even 24 hours after winning a national championship, Nick Saban was on the phone calling Alabama’s top recruiting targets.

Saban called five recruits Tuesday night, and one of them was the son of Crimson Tide legendary linebacker Wayne Davis, who is Alabama’s all-time leading tackler.

Ben Davis, the nation’s No. 1 inside linebacker from Gordo (Ala.) High School, told SEC Country shortly after his 15-minute conversation with Saban that it meant a lot for him to call him the day after beating Clemson in the title game.

“I’m just really humbled,” Davis said. “I’m just going to keep on working hard and come signing day, I’m just going to decide which school I’m going to go to.”

Despite Saban’s recruiting pitch Tuesday night, everything is still the same with Davis, meaning Georgia is still his leader and Alabama is still No. 2.

But that doesn’t mean the Crimson Tide have that much work to do. Davis’ relationship with Saban is a strong one, and he’s one of the biggest reasons for why Alabama is high on his list.

“(Saban’s) always striving for success,” Davis said. “He was celebrating last night, and now it’s back to business. That’s what I like about Coach Saban. He’s always about business.

“He’s no different than anyone else that you see on TV. He’s very business-like. He knows when it’s time to have fun and when to be serious. That’s what I like about him.”

The five-star prospect did say Saban lightened up a bit when the two were talking about Davis’ basketball skills.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder recently broke a basketball hoop at during a road game. The contest had to be delayed for around 45 minutes. Saban asked him about that.

“We were talking about basketball for a while and he was asking me if I had broken any more basketball rims lately,” Davis said. “I told him I didn’t. I had to ease up on the rims.

“The school actually called my school and told them that they had to replace it. I don’t think my school had to replace anything though, so that’s good.”

Davis will take an official visit to Alabama on Jan. 29 and will make his commitment on National Signing Day just a few days after his trip finishes up.

He is rated as the nation’s No. 12 overall recruit, according to the 247Sports composite.

So we know he talked to Wilson and Davis. I wonder who the other 3 were?

ORLANDO, Fla. — The final phase Dontavious Jackson’s recruitment will be eventful.

The four-star linebacker from Houston (Texas) Elsik plans to take a total of six trips this month. The madness begins for him this weekend when he officially visits Florida.

Jackson will follow that up with a trip to Alabama on Jan. 22, and he plans to take four other unofficial visits before deciding on signing day.

month for me,” Jackson told SEC Country.

The Under Armour All-American has already officially visited UCLA, Florida State and Michigan. He claims proximity to home is not important.

“Distance doesn’t mean anything to me, man,” Jackson said. “Not at all.”

In the video interview above, Jackson answers the following questions:

What does he like about Alabama and Florida?
Which four schools will he unofficially visit in January?
Is there any pressure on him to stay in the state of Texas?
Which school is guaranteed to have a hat on the table come signing day?
What will be the determining factor in his decision?

Saban talked to Davis, Wilson, AJ Brown, Derrick Brown and Jeffrey Simmons.

That kind of tells us who our top priorities are and the biggest needs.

We definitely are getting the first two. I hope our NC victory can help us secure the Mississippi ones, although I fear landmassing.

Derrick Brown doesn't seem close and he has already visited. It would be a great surprise.

I don't put any stock in the Rashan Gary rumors. We are literally the perfect school for what his mother wants, but she seems to hate us.

Sheffield, Mcmillon, and Jennings from what I recall. Might have been others.

Obviously Sheffield will have a big role next year.

They have been very high on Jennings since he committed (the older Jennings already on the team, I should specify).

Five-star LB Ben Davis of Gordo is the Class 3A Lineman of the Year. Davis says #Alabama, #Georgia share No. 1 on his list.
