Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern wide receiver Tyler Simmons has announced his commitment to Alabama, per a BamaOnline source. The three-star prospect chose the Crimson Tide over offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, California and Texas A&M, among others. Alabama picked up serious momentum for the Peach State receiver over the past three months, which included a visit from head coach Nick Saban via helicopter back in December.

“For one it’s the comfort level with Alabama,” Simmons told BamaOnline. “Another reason I wanted to commit there is I want to major in engineering and it’s a great engineering school.

Special teams coordinator and tight ends coach Bobby Williams is the primary recruiter on file for Simmons, one of the fastest recruits in the state of Georgia.

“After talking to the coaches I feel comfortable that it’s not just about football there,” Simmons said. “Once you’re committed, you’re not just committed to play football you’re committed to the school. They were just real through the whole recruiting process.”

Simmons, who committed to the Tide silently in October, talked about what he’s looking forward to most when gets to Tuscaloosa.

“Just the football and college environment,” Simmons said. “Just getting to meet the players and experience the college life.”

The 5-foot-11, 194-pound Simmons, is rated the No. 63 receiver and the No. 377 overall player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite, an industry-generated average. The commitment bumps Alabama to the No. 4 spot in the 247Sports Team Rankings.

So it seems that this commitment has nothing to do with Cavin's decision, as Simmons has been silently committed since October.

Check that. 13 of 19 #Bama commitments in 2016 are within #Scout300.

#Alabama now has the No. 1 recruiting class in America on Scout.com

I've always thought Scout had the most reliable recruiting rankings.

"I actually made my decision back before we played Archer in the playoffs," said Simmons. "I knew then that Alabama was going to be the schools after talking to my family and everything. That is when I told the Alabama coaches."

"They just kept it real with me. Everyone can sell playing time and things like that, but Alabama was about coming in, working hard, and earning it. They were up front about things and they just made me feel very comfortable around them.

"Coach [Kirby] Smart is actually the first coach I told about my commitment," Simmons said with a laugh. "At that time, he was still full-time at Alabama, so it is funny how he knew first. He is now recruiting me for Georgia and Georgia was my No. 2 school, so I am sure he will still come out and use his in-home visit with me."

Simmons feels good about his decision though. The No. 19-ranked wide receiver in the South is set to take his official visit to Alabama the weekend of January 22 and as of this time, that is the only official visit he plans to take.

"Commiting publicly feels like a big stress reliever for me. It feels really good to commit to one of the top schools in the country, but I like Alabama for their mechanical engineering program as well.

"Coach Saban told me to commit to the school, not the program, and that is what I am doing. It is pretty exciting."

I've always thought that they sucked, clearly they changed things around this year. Good for them.

Well I certainly slept through some interesting shite last night.

No Cavin? I guess the happiest person in America at that news is Verne Lundquist.

TJ Simmons? 3-star U.

I don't know what gifs to post.

Is it really a good tradeoff for Verne to have TJ Simmons and Tyler Simmons in the same class playing the same position?

I wanted Simmons, regardless of ranking he's a really good deep threat guy ridiculous speed

Sucks about Cavin but I understand it since he can be the #1 go to guy day 1 for USCe. I know most of you on here don't wanna believe we get AJ, but it's looking more and more that way

The finish to this class will be ridiculous

I haven't watched it yet but here is his Senior film:

Highlights

It's almost 12 minutes long so it's gotta be good right?

I mean Cavin's Senior video only had 2 minutes to it.

I'm compensating right now.

From Scout, where Simmons is a 4-star (all it takes is one baby):

quote:

Simmons Evaluation: An athlete first and foremost right now. Has played a lot of running back on the high school level, so he is still learning the ins and outs about being a fulltime wide receiver. With his experience toting the football, expect to see him on jet sweeps at Alabama very early in his career. He has a very good feel with the ball in his hands and he has great vision as well. As a receiver, his straightline speed is elite and you can tell he is a track star when you see him on the go.and once he gets going. He can be an receiver who gets yards after the catch at well. Getting in and out breaks, setting defenders up, and blocking are still areas he can improve in. His hands are solid, he is a real competitor, he soaks things in well, and he has a great frame. His catch radius is good and he will enter Tuscaloosa ready to compete right away. What stands out about Simmons as much as anything is his character and who he is on and off the field. He will catch on to things quickly, nobody will out-work him, and he will make plays for Alabama in the future. If I had to compare him to someone, Anquan Bolden is the one who comes to mind.

It was a fairly one-sided affair Saturday afternoon in Orlando, as Team Highlight defeated Team Armour 27-0 in the Under Armour All-America Game.

Here’s how Tide targets and commits fared in the matchup:

quote:

Alabama commits

B.J. Emmons, RB – 10 carries for 6 yards, 2 catches for 13 yards; While Emmons’ stat line doesn’t jump off the page, the four-star back showed the ability to handle a larger workload and soft hands catching the ball out of the backfield. The Tide commit shared the bulk of the carries with Arkansas commit Devwah Whaley.

Kendell Jones, DT – 1 tackle; Jones didn’t have a huge day but provided a solid presence on the defensive front holding the Team Armour rushing attack to just 34 yards for the game.

Chris Owens, OL – Owens had a strong showing on the day, after a strong week of practices with one 247Sports Analyst describing him as a “mauler.” The 6-foot-2.5, 315-pound prospect paved the way for a Team Highlight offensive attack that amassed 261 yards of total offense on the day.

Deonte Brown, OL
– Neither team had stellar rushing attacks, both combining for just 94 yards total. Brown had good week of practice, though, and while he didn’t have the best day blocking, he showed promising flashes. The biggest thing for Brown going forward will be controlling his weight, along with technique and footwork.

Alabama targets:

Ben Davis, LB – 3 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss; Davis impressed on the field with both his speed and instincts. The five-star Bama legacy is the complete package at the linebacker position.

Lyndell Wilson (Mack), LB – 1 tackle; The five-star ‘backer down to Florida, Alabama and Georgia was a part of a Team Highlight defense that allowed just 120 yards of total offense. Like Davis, there aren’t a lot of things Wilson is lacking on the field in both pass coverage and run defense. One 247Sports analyst said the trio of Wilson, Davis and Dontavious Jackson look like college All-Americans at this juncture.

A.J. Brown, WR – 4 catches for 72 yards; Brown, the top receiver target left on the Tide’s board, impressed many throughout the week. Praised for his route running, Brown caught four passes for 72 yards, including a 52-yard catch and run off a slant route. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound receiver is the real deal and lacks very little as a prospect.

Dontavious Jackson, LB – 4 tackles, 1 quarterback hurry; Jackson, a big, bruising prospect is the prototype SEC middle linebacker. He impressed on Saturday and throughout the week with his energy level and his ability to fly to the ball.

Nigel Knott, CB – 1 tackle for a loss; Knott, known for his elite athleticism, showed off his cover skills at the cornerback position helping Team Highlight hold Team Armour to just 86 yards passing.
