HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The 2015 Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic went in the books as a 28-21 win for Team Mississippi. The game was a culmination of a full week of workouts, where some prospects shined brighter than the rest. Rivals.com dishes out awards for the best weeklong performances.
quote:
Super Standout
A.J. Brown | Starkville, Miss.
Brown was at his best during Saturday's game. He took home an MVP trophy for a reason, after all. His nine catches for 137 yards were impressive, but he wasn't a one-trick pony. Brown was impressive all week at practices and showed the kind of explosives that can make a receiver truly special. Dominating an All-Star setting isn't easy, but Brown managed to do it. Brown is uncommitted but thought to be favoring Mississippi State.

Most Imposing
DL Raekwon Davis | Meridian, Miss.
Davis has the body of an SEC defensive lineman already. He's every bit of 6-foot-7 and carried little bad weight. His strength is what sets him apart but he moves decently for a massive lineman. Physically, Davis is ready to play the highest level of college football. There's not an eye test on earth that Davis fails. Davis is committed to Alabama, but taking other visits.

Most Athletic
DB Nigel Knott | Madison (Miss.) Germantown
Knott is more than just gymnastics. The four-star defensive back is capable of doing backflips off of walls and flat-footed. It's a great party trick, but Knott is best when his athleticism manifests itself on the field. Knott is a weapon in the return game and has one of the best verticals of any player in the country. His athleticism allows him to cover an almost impossible amount of ground in the defensive back field. Knott is considering USC, Oregon, Ole Miss, Alabama, Mississippi State and Florida State.

Most Versatile
LB Ben Davis | Gordo (Ala.)
Davis could easily play offense. The massive linebacker does so many things so well that you his image is more than an imposing linebacker. On Saturday, he returned an interception 79 yards for a touchdown and also made 11 tackles. Davis' length allows him to shine in coverage and his speed makes him an asset in run support. Linebackers don't come much more versatile than Davis, who is considering Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and others.

Raised Stock
Quinnen Williams | Birmingham (Ala.) Wenonah
Williams was disrupted practices to the point that quarterbacks had trouble getting passing reps. He has some power, sure, but he's retained quickness despite adding muscle this year. Williams plays with a ferocious vigor and never quits on a play. Williams used the all-star event to make a statement. Williams is committed to Alabama.

Dropped Stock
Velus Jones | Saraland, Ala.
A USC commit, Jones had a case of the drops that flared up on multiple occasions during the week. He had his moments of greatness because he's a gifted athlete but he failed to show off the consistency of a high-level prospect. Jones has great tools and will be fine as he continues to develop as a wide receiver. His hands and route running need work.

Rivals.com is unveiling four new five-star prospects and also has one prospect losing that coveted fifth star. Here's the breakdown of each:
quote:
LOST FIFTH-STAR
S DeAngelo Gibbs
Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge
"I loved Gibbs ability when I first saw him to cover like a corner even though he has the size and frame of a safety or a smaller linebacker. However as he develops physically those coverage skills are more suited for the middle of the field rather than outside the hashes." -- Farrell
"Physically, Gibbs is still one of the nation's most impressive prospects, but he struggled during the year while playing cornerback and wide receiver. We still see Gibbs best future position as safety and think the sooner he makes that transition full-time the better. Gibbs has a tremendous ceiling, but needs to start having the production on-field to match his potential. Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and others are in the mix in his recruitment." -- Woody Wommack, Rivals.com Southeast Recruiting Analyst

The second edition of the Rivals100 Presented by Under Armour for the class of 2017 has been released with the same No. 1, some shuffling at the top and a few new five stars. But there were also plenty of big moves, especially upwards, as prospects jockey for position and surge toward the five-star range. The Rivals.com team of analysts breaks down the big movers, led by Alabama running back commitment Cam Akers.
"Since it's still very early, there's a bit of shifting that goes along with this ranking and there will be additional shifting as we review junior film again and get to see some of these top players before our February release," said Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell. "Akers is a big-time running back and this class appears to be a bit stronger at that position than the 2016 class. We have many different players from numerous positions making moves, so this is a balanced group so far."
In addition to running back, there were big moves at the athlete position, linebacker, cornerback, along the defensive line and offensive lines and at quarterback. But one position is of particular interest to Farrell.
"It's rare when we have this many safeties that stand out to me," said Farrell. "It's not as coveted a position as cornerback and not as glamorous obviously as quarterback or some of the others, but we have some versatile guys at the position for 2017, some of whom could play corner, others could play strong or free safety and some will end up at linebacker. It seems pretty deep especially with some players from our athlete category that could end up at safety."
This time around, players that moved up more than 40 spots and those that moved down more than 30 spots within the Rivals100 are highlighted. Here's a breakdown by our analysts.

RISERS
We might end up with none of them by NSD 2017.
quote:
RB Cam Akers
Clinton, Miss.
NEW RANK PREV. RANK DIFFERENCE
21 91 +70
"Akers has the look of a perfect running back. He has the size and the height, He's also fast enough to turn a few heads. This season, he showed a new knack for catching the ball out of the backfield. Akers is committed to Alabama."
-- Rob Cassidy, Southeast Analyst
quote:
S Xavier McKinney
Roswell, Ga.
NEW RANK PREV. RANK DIFFERENCE
43 NR NA
"McKinney burst onto the scene this fall, recording nine interceptions while playing on one of the best teams in Georgia's highest classification. The Alabama commit has a nose for the ball and with his play showed he belongs among the country's best."
-- Wommack
quote:
QB Jake Fromm
Warner Robins (Ga.) Houston County
NEW RANK PREV. RANK DIFFERENCE
49 137 +88
"Fromm lit up the competition all season and his arm strength and accuracy are among the nation's best. The Alabama commit is a two-sport star and his athleticism at the position is also impressive."
-- Wommack
We might end up with none of them by NSD 2017.

Travis Reier on our 2016 kicking situation (should Griffith move on):
It appears the rumors of Raborn leaving the team are false then.
quote:
As for the 2016 season, there are options -- albeit largely unproven -- beyond Griffith on the current roster.
In addition to punting, JK Scott has also handled placements at both the high school and college levels. He missed his lone field goal attempt to date at Alabama -- a 33-yarder against Charleston Southern late in the 2015 regular season -- but did make his lone extra point try in that same game.
While he spent a good portion of this season serving a suspension, sophomore walk-on Gunnar Raborn did see action in two games in 2014. Raborn converted 2 of 3 field goals and 9 of 10 extra points a season ago. Of the two, Scott would be the best bet to handle kickoffs and longer field goals, while Raborn would be more of a Jeremy Shelley-like option.
It appears the rumors of Raborn leaving the team are false then.

We offered a 2017 DE out of Georgia yesterday. He appears to be an "under the radar" guy at the moment, seeing as he's rated the #514 player overall.
DE Michael Allen Highlights
He has excellent size, though, at 6'6" 230 pounds. Your move Kirby.

That's a great point. He may have nerves of steel, but he doesn't have any game experience kicking. How is going to react kicking in front of 100,000 with the game on the line with 3 seconds on the clock? I know he has all the potential in the world being able to kick a mile, and that is exciting for whoever gets him.

Any word on when Dakota will announce?

Has anybody heard anything (positive or otherwise) about Greg Little? Seems like it's been radio silence since he delayed his announcement.

Ole Miss is confident that he will sign with them. That's about all that needs to be said about that situation.
