If anything, history has shown us the guy who gets all the backup snaps is the next starter.
We've only had 5 QBs during the Saban era so I don't think that going by "history" really means shite. If you have Parker McLeod as your only QB behind the current starter because everyone else transferred out and he's all you've got and you sign the number 1 QB, you're not going to start Parker McLeod just because he got the back up snaps to the guy before.
