Jake Fromm will probably be our 2017 QB:
quote:
Fromm went on to talk about his discussions with the Tide staff, as far as their timetable for the ’17 recruiting cycle.
“They’re kind of being patient with it,” Fromm said. “I don’t think they want a guy to commit too early with the history they’ve had with guys committing early. They definitely say I’m the number one guy left. We just have to see where it goes, take time and be patient with it.”

With Alabama apparently third for Marlon Davidson, the surprise visit Saturday from Jeffrey Simmons looms large. Both are excellent DE's.
Third?
1.) Auburn
2.) Auburn
3.) Alabama?

2. Jack West, QB, Saraland (6-3 ½, 210, Sophomore)
West has offers from Auburn, Alabama and a host of other big-time schools, yet this is his first start in a regular-season football game. He has received plenty of hype this summer but has big shoes to fill after the departure of last year’s starter, Chris Weaver. He also will be facing a traditionally tough Daphne defense, this year led by linebackers Onyx Brown and Trent Ellis.

Macon (Miss.) Noxubee County hosted Starkville (Miss.) in the season opener and Simmons put on a show. He was strong against the run, he had numerous sacks, and honestly, he put on a five-star performance.
The four-star out of Noxubee County is No. 139 overall on Scout right now, but that will soon change. Simmons is a 6-foot-4, 272 pound senior who is very disruptive, and he is one who will compete for playing time right away on the next level.
Alabama has him on campus this past weekend and the Crimson Tide along with Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, and Mississsippi State are very much in this race.

The last place the North Carolina defensive tackle visited during the summer was Alabama.
”It surprised me and I learned a lot,” he said. “It was definitely impressive. The facilities were great and the academics were good. I spent the most time with (defensive line) coach (Bo) Davis and (outside linebackers) coach (Tosh) Lupoi. They showed me around and how things work. They also said I’d have chance to play early.
”While I was there, I also had a chance to sit down with coach (Nick) Saban. He talked to me about the school and the football program. He also told me about himself. It felt great to sit down and talk to him one-on-one.”
The Wake Forest standout defensive tackle admitted he had developed the closest relationships with the two coaching staffs.
”I’d probably say the in-state schools – North Carolina and NC State – because I’ve visited them the most,” said the 6-foot-4 ½, 335-pound Lawrence.

There will be some movers in the 2016 and 2017 rankings in the South soon and one of those ascending up into the Scout 100 will be Jeffery Simmons.
The 6-4, 272 pound defensive end out of Macon (Miss.) Noxubee County is ranked No. 139 right now, but he will make a big move on Scout after being scouted in person.
Against Starkville (Miss.) Friday, he was a monster on the football field. He was constantly in the backfield due to his strength and quickness. And when he wasn't he was chasing the ball down the field to make tackles, and recovering a fumble on special teams. His performance was one of the best I have seen in recent years.
Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State are five schools to know with Simmons. He has yet to cut his list down, but he likely will soon.

One of the top athletes in Alabama regardless of class is Myles Mason.
The 6-2, 185 pound sophomore out of Pleasant Grove (Ala.) was offered by Alabama recently, the school he grew up following. "It gave me chills when I got the Alabama offer," Mason said. The Crimson Tide lead early.
Auburn has also offered Mason and many others will. He is hearing from Florida State and Georgia — he hopes to get offers from both.
His size and athleticism gives him options. He has length, ball skills, and speed, and some schools may like him as a safety, others may see him as a wide receiver, and do not rule out someone looking at him as a big corner. No rankings for 2018 yet on Scout, but look for stars to appear on Mason's profile soon.

The scrimmage was really good, too. I saw good plays and patterns on both sides of the ball. The team did really well, they moved the ball and the defense made some stops, also. I’ll say the whole team balled out.”
Williams used his latest visit to further his relationship with likely future teammates, too.
“I spoke to some players and gave our, ‘what’s up.’ I’m cool with a lot of players on the team that I met this summer while camping,” he said.
Not expecting to take visits to other programs, one of Alabama’s top in-state commitments reiterated his plans and goals for the fall upon heading back to Birmingham.
“I’m looking forward to coming down for games and competing, doing what I have to do to help ‘Bama win championships,” Williams said.

Mike Farrell on Nigel Knott:
LINK
quote:
"This release is an odd one for me for many reasons, but it's something I will quickly get used to," said Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell. "A new No. 1, for the fourth time already in this class, and dropping so many five stars down to four, more than we added, is going to be more commonplace moving forward. But there are also some major moves within the Rivals100 and some guys creeping up into five-star range. Keep an eye on this release because I think it's telling in regards to the direction some prospects are headed."
One such prospect is Madison (Miss.) Germantown cornerback Nigel Knott, who emerged as an elite prospect at his position but will miss much of his senior season with an MCL tear.
"This one is a shame because he was a lock for five stars in my opinion," said Farrell. "But anytime a corner has a knee injury like that you have to wait and see because they rely on change of direction so much. Hopefully he recovers quickly and gets back in time for the end of the season or the all-star evaluation. This kid, if he returns healthy, could be special."

Also on Knott:

quote:
"Knott had as good an offseason as anyone. He was downright dominant at every event he attended and was on the verge of five-star status before injuring his knee. Knott will miss a chunk of his senior season, but should be a high-level college cornerback if he returns from his injury as 90 percent of the player he was." -- Southeast Analyst Rob Cassidy -

"Last season, Terrell Hall was a terror coming off the edge and was considered a speed-rushing specialist. After adding about 30 pounds of muscle in the offseason, Hall looks like a completely different player, adding power moves to rush the passer and be able to stand up at the point of attack. He is much more college-ready right now and we fully expect him to have a dominant season and push for that fifth star." -- Friedman

"Simmons shined at Mississippi State's camp, where he didn't lose a rep during one-on-one drills. His size and quickness off the ball are that of an elite prospect. He has thick legs and long arms that will help him become an elite pass rushed at the FBS level." -- Cassidy Gorney -

"Raekwon Davis is more than just a massive body and he showed that at LSU's camp. He has incredibly quick hands for a massive defensive tackle and is light on bad weight, considering his massive frame. Davis has the look of a run stopper and moves well enough to find himself in the backfield. His upside is unmistakable." -- Cassidy -
