Most recruiting experts expect Ben Davis, the son of Alabama's all-time leading tackler Wayne Davis, to eventually sign with the Tide. But the five-star linebacker from Gordo (Ala.) High is taking his time with the recruiting process. He's yet to narrow a list of close to 30 offers and plans to hold off on a decision until Signing Day.

Wednesday, Davis dropped by Auburn for a short visit with two of his teammates. "I had fun with Coach (Gus) Malzahn," Davis said. "We just toured more and saw more of the campus and just talked. I'm interested in building a better relationship with him." Davis said Malzahn's message to him was a simple one. "That if I come there I would be able to play early," Davis said. "It's a great campus and a great school. I love it."

Davis, 6-foot-3 and 234 pounds, said Auburn is recruiting him as an outside and inside linebacker. He spent time with defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and linebackers coach Lance Thompson during his visit.

"Coach Muschamp is a great coach and he puts guys in the league like Dante Fowler. I'm interested in building a better relationship with him too," Davis said. Davis plans to attend NIKE's The Opening July 5 and visit Georgia July 18. He also plans to be back in Auburn along with Greenville (Ala.) High five-star defensive lineman Marlon Davidson. His friendship with Davidson, whose older brother played at Auburn, is a plus for the Tigers and Davis sees a benefit in visiting with him at the same time. "It would help a lot as far as seeing more of the campus and stuff and with the players and how they react to the coaches. It would help a lot," Davis said. Davis said he may start cutting his list down after the end of his senior season.

Demetrice Vaughn, running back from Blount High School in Eight Mile, Ala., has several schools expressing interest.

"I don't have any offers yet," said Vaughn. "Alabama and Auburn are showing interest. My coach told me that Georgia Tech called about me. Ole Miss and Georgia have sent mail. South Carolina has sent a lot of mail."

Vaughn attended a recent Junior Day in Tuscaloosa.

"The visit to Alabama was good," he said. "I liked the facilities real good. I talked to Coach Saban, Coach Kiffin and Coach Thompson. Coach Saban said to keep up all the good work. Coach Kiffin said he likes my film. He said I am a good physical, down hill running back.

"I really like Alabama. They treat you like their own players. I really like the atmosphere. It's like a home for real. Everyone up there is outgoing. They are good people."

Vaughn's early favorites include Alabama, Auburn and LSU. He talked more of his interest in the other two SEC teams.

"I went up to Auburn my freshman year," Vaughn said. "I am not really a going out person. It's quiet there. I am more comfortable there from anywhere else I have been. I feel like it's in the country. I have seen Coach Craig stop by recently. He said I had a good season.

"I haven't been to LSU yet. I have just always liked them. I don't really know what it is. I just want to go down there and visit. I would like to get interest from them."

The 5-foot-7.5, 210-pound back rushed for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2013.

"My vision is my biggest strength," he said. "I want to work on my speed this off-season."

He rushed for over 1,800 yards and 22 TDs his Senior season.

I think we gotta sign 2 RBs this year though. Drake and likely Henry will be gone. Even if we get The WV RB he'll be gone. With Flowers going to Juco I'm not sure he'll be back for '16. Leaves us with Harris, Bo, and Clark plus whoever we move to RB

I just watched almost half of Vaughan's highlight reel and I gotta say, he doesn't look too bad.

He actually looks a lot like Flowers just shorter.

I like Anthony Averett as a candidate to move to RB. Plenty of speed, played the position some in high school, buried on the depth chart at CB. I think he had a cup of coffee on offense this spring.

No he is finally excelling in the secondary. No need to waste him at RB.

Probably not going to happen man. I think we get one out of Devin White (most likely) and Miles Sanders.

Now, the 2017 class is another story. We already have Harris committed and we seem to have an early foot in the door for Cam Akers. Land those two and we could have a Richardson/Lacy situation again.

Ronnie Clark. But he'd be better suited at H-Back. It's a shame we have to use him at RB, but heck, we have to have a warm body at the position at this point. We're due for some luck at RB in spades.

On Thursday night Gary arrived at Alabama and got a chance to have a talk with Da'Shawn Hand, the No. 1 player in the 2014 Rivals100.

"Alabama is a visit I wanted to go on since the ninth grade and I finally got the opportunity," Gary said. "When I got there it was a beautiful campus and I love the coaching staff and the players. I talked to the whole defensive staff and they showed me a lot of love. The defensive coordinator and the defensive line coach told me a couple of things I should work on. It was pretty cool.

"Everything is so close together," he said. "You have your dorms and right downstairs is the food court, the academic center is right there and classes are right across the street. You can really walk to everything so that was cool.

"Da'Shawn and I just talked about his experiences at Alabama and things like that," said Gary. "It was cool getting a top player's thoughts on the recruiting process. He's a guy that was in the same position I am."

I think we pretty much have to get 2. We cant keep Clark at RB and actually let him play RB in games. I don't think that's a good fit for either party. I think we should go the Juco route.

He was a pretty damn good offensive player in high school. Yeah, he played QB for the most part, but so does Cam Akers.

In terms of JUCO backs, I hear that there is this Tyren Jones that had awesome stats in high school.

Seriously though, who do we have a shot at if we are going to get two or more?
BJ Emmons is probably JUCO bound.
I haven't heard anything with UA and Devwah Whaley since we offered.
Elijah Holyfield is UGA bound.
The rest of the top ten RBs are committed.

Bone says he is a take. I assume that is contingent on him making the grades.

Just what we need. Another running back who won't make the grades
