I'm sure those "insiders" are great and all but why haven't they said this before today when he supposedly committed?

Jones is a fantastic prospect. Don't get me wrong.

But Rashan Gary is the best player in the country. Hands down. He ran a laser timed 4.8 as a DT and Cristobal has visited him every time he possibly could.

Gary is the top player on our board. He has been for months.

One of them said that weeks ago. I didn't post it because nobody else had confirmed it. Someone else confirmed it today. I don't really like saying something like that without a second source of information. The first person who said it got it right out of the mouth of a coach. This isn't Andrew Bone we're talking about.

Gary is EXTREMELY high on the board. Let's land both of them and not even worry about it!

One of these two said that Kendell Sheffield was the top overall recruit on our board last year. Never heard a second "insider" confirm that, though.

One other note of interest. We feel good about our chances of re-flipping Benito Jones (yeah, yeah, I know. Mississippi). Apparently we have an ace up the sleeve (not sure what it is) here that even the MS folks think he might end up back at Bama.

Coaches also feel good about eventually signing Demetrius Robertson. Apparently it's not exactly a Ledbetter/Terry Godwin situation. That's all that was mentioned. Who knows.

Of course I'd like to land both, but I find it extremely hard to believe that Jones is ranked ahead of Gary, Davis, Davidson, Wilson, etc. when they all had offers from us for at least 6 months longer than him.

It's not like he was an unknown prospect before getting the offer either. Texas, LSU, A&M and a dozen other schools offered him way before we did.

I'm just saying our "insiders" tend to talk up a player we are getting or rumored to get so as to make the pickup seem more significant. It happens in every class with multiple players.

Bone has been on the Benito Jones "flip watch" for months now as well. Sometimes you gotta read between the lines in regards to "insiders" to determine if they are regurgitating something they read on one site and posting it on another.

I have accounts on multiple sites (I mainly post here due to the interface) and read 99% of all Alabama recruiting news as soon as it is posted.

I take what these "insiders" say with a huge grain of salt knowing that I could claim the same status by just repeating what I read on one site on another.

I've even been known to call out so called "insiders" when they post something as their own when I've seen it posted somewhere else by another individual.

I've mellowed out some in that regard, but I won't hesitate to do it again. I hate that shite. Half a dozen people here will tell you that's the truth.

From our friend CrimReaper:

Bama, Baylor, and Auburn getting a visit from 2016 JUCO prospect Jamarcus King. He's going to school in Cofeyville, KS, but is from Prichard Alabama.

Great size at 6'2 180lbs. Bama hasn't offered, but he believes they may soon.

Likes it being close to home and how well the Bama DB's have done in the past.

Our coaches' board changes constantly. At the moment, I believe what I posted to be true.

Keep in mind where most of my information comes from. It's 3rd person information. The first person is someone DIRECTLY on the coaching staff in a lot of cases. Not a GA. Not a trainer. Someone directly on the staff. People involved in the evaluation process. For whatever grief you may give some people, you're welcome to do it to me. But you'll wind up being proven wrong most times, if you do. I am not an insider. But I do know who the very best of the best insiders with recruiting info are that are on the net (not just online, but via email and Facebook).

Saban's board typically looks VERY different from the recruiting services.

Another guy to keep an eye on this year is Keith Gavin, current FSU WR commit. Supposedly Bama is very high on him.

I'm not questioning you.

I'm questioning the "insiders" you are quoting. "Insiders" who wait until we seemingly lead for a player before posting how high they are on our board.

No sane person would ever say Jones is better than Gary. No one. An amateur film evaluator can tell Gary is the better player and is coveted, and ranked, as such.

I don't care about rankings. Never have. Especially this early. I think my evaluatons, based on film, have proven that I have an eye for talent evidenced by seeing multiple prospects and predicting a bump in the rankings months before they happened (Hackenberg jumping ahead of Browne being the most "famous" prognostication).

Prime example in this class will be Woody Barrett and Jawon Pass. I've never liked Pass' film. I love Barrett's. Now talk is Barrett will probably usurp Pass in the rankings.

I'm just saying don't believe everything our "insiders" say.

Killeen Shoemaker defensive tackle Kendell Jones figures to be in the news quite a bit over the next few days.

In anticipation of what many believe to be a May 22 announcement date, the four-star prospect trimmed his list to five on Thursday night: Texas, Alabama, Baylor, Texas A&M and LSU.

Earlier on Thursday, it was reported that Jones had given a verbal pledge to Alabama. Jones did visit Tuscaloosa earlier this spring and holds an offer from the Crimson Tide.

But the report turned out to be false, according to Jones’ father, Kendell Jones Sr.

Jones is one of Texas’ top overall priorities in the 2016 class. The 6-foot-4, 361-pounder is ranked as the No. 11 defensive tackle in the nation and No. 9 overall prospect in the state, according to 247Sports Composite.

Jones has visited Texas on a number of occasions and was once thought to be a Longhorns lean. Here is the current Crystal Ball forecast.

EXCLUSIVE: KENDELL JONES RELEASES TOP FIVE
Ahmard VitalAhmard Vital
Midlands Recruiting

After rumors that he had made his commitment earlier today, Scout five-star Kendell Jones and his family releases his top five list to Scout.com...

Earlier today the internet caught fire when it was reported that Scout five-star prospect Kendell Jones Jr., a 6-foot-4 1/12, 361-pound defensive tackle from Killeen (Texas) Shoemaker –- affectionately nicknamed "The Hulk" – had committed to Alabama.

Analysis: A gifted specimen, who is quick and athletic for a player with his size. He is a bit raw as a prospect, but shows the explosion and get off of an elite level player. He is very strong at the point of attack, blowing offensive linemen up and forcing them in to the defensive backfield. He plays right over the center in high school, but moving to college he is a guy who could play in and out. He sheds blocks well and is a run stop specialist. - GP

But soon after that news was reported, Kendell Jones Sr. -- The Hulk’s father -– debunked that report by saying that his son had not made his commitment and that he would instead be releasing a top five list.

Minutes ago, the five-star Jones released those schools to Scout.

“Texas, Alabama, Baylor, Texas A&M, LSU. That is in no order,” Mr. Jones reported.

Jones Jr. is one of the most highly sought-after recruits in the country and had offers from coast-to-coast before narrowing it down to the final five, which consists of three SEC schools and two Big 12 schools.

Jones gave his reasons for each of the school’s inclusion in his final five:

LSU –- “You know I’m from Louisiana, and my dad loves LSU. It really feels like home. I remember when I got my offer and coach Les Miles called me and my dad into the office. He said he loves how I played the game and how I always looked like I was having fun.”

Texas A&M -– “I like the environment there and how it seems like they stick together down there. I’ve been a few times and more and more I see how close they are, as players and coaches. I like the way they do things.”

Baylor –- “It’s close to home. And I like that they play in the Big 12. It’s a school on the rise. The last two years have been really strong for them.”

Texas –- “There is a great coaching staff there. I have a great relationship with coach Charlie Strong and the the linebacker coach. I liked being on the 40 Acres.”

Alabama -– “I like the academics there and I felt comfortable there, too. The program has been running the SEC for a good while. I like the family environment there, too.”

On first sight, one of the main things that stands out with Jones is clearly his physical stature. No matter what event he attends, eyes quickly turn his direction as he comes with a bold presence. But what Jones said is the main thing coaches say about him has nothing to do with size or strength.

It’s more so just the way he lives life.

“Most of the coaches recruiting me talk a lot about my character. I have fun on the field and I smile a lot,” Jones said. “On the field, they see me as a dominant player who comes off the ball hard.”

Jones was the defensive line MVP at The Opening regional held at Arlington (Texas) Lamar back in mid-March earning an invitation to be one of the participants at The Opening Finals in Oregon in July.

Scout Eval: A gifted specimen, who is quick and athletic for a player with his size. He is a bit raw as a prospect, but shows the explosion and get-off of an elite-level player. He is very strong at the point of attack, blowing offensive linemen up and forcing them into the backfield. He plays right over the center in high school, but moving to college he is a guy who could play in and out. He sheds blocks well and is a run-stop specialist.

Midlands Recruiting Manager Greg Powers contributed to this report.

Yeah. Perroni spoke with the coaching staff at Jones' school who informed him that Jones is a silent commit right now.

There's nothing wrong with taking 3-star prospects. Filling the roster with them is another story.

Some will and that's ok. We've never signed a class filled exclusively with 4 and 5-star players.
