From crimsonlawyer over at BOL:
DC = Daylon Charlot
quote:
FWIW, Sonny on the LSU board says he feels like DC is still leaning toward Bama. Also notes he's getting a lot of family pressure to stay home. I had pretty much written him off, but I might be inclined to heed Lee Corso's advice on Charlot.

If Harris comes to Bama, Barnett should get all of the credit.

We aren't getting Patterson, I'd rather him at Michigan than LSU

Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth Top247 cornerback and Alabama commit Rico McGraw made several plays on deep ball attempts and was one of the best defensive backs on the East.

1. Chidi Valentine-Okeke, OT – You would expect Valentine-Okeke to be extremely raw and a little bit overmatched in the All-American setting based on his limited experience and competition level. That wasn't the case. He has the best frame at the event and his ability to bend at that size and move laterally make him unique. He was also extremely coachable and competitive. Suddenly it looks like an Alabama-Auburn battle for the Top100 prospect and his upside is immense.

Coconut Creek (Fla.) Monarch five-star wide receiver Calvin Ridley, an Alabama commit, did not disappoint. He played fast, fluid and had moments where he was virtually unstoppable. Ridley is so smooth in and out of his breaks that he keeps the defenders on their heals. He had a couple nice catches including a 20-yard slant that went for a touchdown, while being defended by the nation’s best corner, Iman Marshall.

Hogansville (Ga.) Callaway receiver Terry Godwin doesn’t play slot in high school, but will in the Under Armour game. He showed great quickness and the ability to get open against some of the best defenders in the country.

Tampa (Fla.) Sickles scatback Ray-Ray McCloud was extremely fast and explosive. He got to the edge once and showed how dangerous he can be, and also caught the ball well the few opportunities he got.
Gotta think McCloud was impressed by Clemson last night, but BOL said to keep an eye on him so I'll continue to post stuff about him.

Memphis (Tenn.) University school offensive tackle Drew Richmond, an Ole Miss commit, kept pass rushers at bay for much of the day. The long left tackle struggled some against Byron Cowart, but was able to smother Arden Key’s rush.

He sounds like an Amari Cooper clone.

2. Mekhi Brown, the Top100 Alabama defensive end commit has a quick first step, and the frame to easily add 40-pounds and not lose even a hint of his athleticism. Brown has great length. His only issue is sometimes when he’s engaged he struggles with bigger blockers but that’s nothing the Alabama strength program won’t be able to take care of. 247Sports ranks Brown as the nation’s No. 4 weak-side defensive end.

Not sure he ends up as good as Cooper in the end, but seems more polished coming out of HS. He has the tools.

If we can't add CeCe or Cowart, at least we have Mekhi. Seems like he never gets the hype. Maybe because he has been committed for so long.

Another Alabama commit, tight end Hale Hentges showed off major skill at tight end- receiving, blocking and athletically- and could be the best tight end prospect in this class. He’s legitimately 6-foot-5, 230 pounds and can move.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida - Alabama couldn't convince Drew Richmond to turn down Ole Miss the first time around.
But it'll get a late official visit to try to change his mind.
The four-star offensive lineman from Memphis will officially visit Alabama on Jan. 16. Alabama offensive line coach Mario Cristobal and receivers coach Billy Napier have kept up with Richmond since he committed to the Rebels in September. Their approach is simple.
"It's Alabama," Richmond said. "That's all the pitch they need."
He last visited the school for the Iron Bowl against Auburn, which Richmond said was "a really good experience." Alabama was one of Richmond's top contenders before he made his decision and he even said on the day of his commitment that he'd visit other schools.
But it could be difficult for Alabama or any other school to pry him away from Ole Miss. As a Memphis kid, Ole Miss' Oxford campus is less than an hour away. He used the term "We" frequently Monday when describing the Rebels and the season they had. He's developed a strong rapport with Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze and has been told he'll have an opportunity to play right away once he gets on campus.
"It's family there," Richmond said.
He will officially visit Ole Miss on Jan. 23. He is also expected to visit Texas on Jan. 30.

I would be happy to finish with Harris, Sheffield, Payne, one of Chidi, Richmond, or Prince, and either Hill or Godwin and call it a day.

JC Shurburtt on Deionte Thompson:
quote:
It would not surprise if Alabama commit Deionte Thompson ended up playing cornerback in college. He’s got good length and feet and may be better-suited at that position.
