I've been drinking, but we couldn't have possibly played a worse first half and we came back and won. Yeah, I'll take it.
And to all you Grant haters out there, this shite didn't happen under Gottfried, we woulda lost by 30.

True statement.

Gottfried is gone. He isn't coming back. His flaws shouldn't be compared to Grant and vice versa
I don't think Grant is the coach I hoped for four years ago, but that doesn't change my happiness about the win tonight.

How bout letting his forth year play out first, he does have two much needed big men coming in.

I agree. I was not expecting this bad of an offense. Don't know what happened to what he ran at VCU, but clearly we are missing something or someone (type of player, assistant, etc.) here that is keeping that offense from succeeding here. The defense is nice, but these 7-10 minute scoring droughts are getting ridiculous.

And this is what is frustrating me with some of our fans. It's as if some people are hoping we lose games.

Yeah, he missed out on a few. It happens.

It has happened 3 years in a row.

Has he signed a competent big man?

I respect you and Bryants opinion over any others. But he does have two 4 star big men coming in with what is a young team otherwise.

I know. Relying on a couple of freshmen, one of whom is a stretch 4, isn't really a recipe for success though. Our guard play is solid. All we really need is one banger who can get 8-10 rebounds and cheap put back baskets. What we have are two foreigners who have no basketball skills, and an unathletic 6'7" center who sucks at rebounding. Grant really, really dropped the ball with big man recruiting in the last 3 classes.
I do think that if we win 12 games in conference he will buy himself some time beyond next year though. We looked like shite today, but a win is a win, and our schedule is favorable. Hopefully Taylor isn't as much of a project as I think he is. He really won't need to score much. Just block shots, grab rebounds, and play defense.

I said when we first hired Grant that he would need at least 5 years. His 2nd and 3rd season was ahead of where I thought we would be. It looks like we will be taking a couple steps back this year. But this was never the make or break year with Grant for me and it shouldn't be for the program. Next year is his year to show us something big, and I mean "top 25 quality team" big. There is no excuses for him next year though. He will have gotten a second chance to fix his roster mismanagement and he should have decent depth in the post with the ever improving great guard play.

I think we'd HAVE to go at least sub .500 in SEC play this year before there was any thought of firing him.
EDIT: Nevermind. I think I misread that comment.

We would have to just about lose out for him to not be back next year. I'm saying that I think 12+ wins this season will buy him 2 more years. The roster mismanagement is probably going to catch up to him eventually and result in a complete clusterfrick though. I just don't see him here long term unless we make the tournament and win 2 or 3 games next year.

Don't get me wrong, I think Retin will end up being a very good player before he leaves, but when we signed him, even I was thinking "damn that is an assload of guards." I think it will be fixed somewhat after this next class comes in. We will be losing 1 guard and adding two posts and maybe even a combo-forward in that Wilson kid from Wenonah.

I thought Auburn offered him in football and basketball and he was likely headed there.
