Fouts pitching again today. He's going to continuously pitch her until her arm falls off midway through the season

I’m just tired of Murphy…this program has just been a gradual decline the last 6 or 7 years.

Nothing will happen tho. He has earned a MASSIVE leash and Softball doesn’t make money so as long as He is continually getting us into Super Regionals(didn’t last year) Byrne won’t do anything.

The way this team is currently constructed I don't think they'll even sniff the super regionals again

Neither pitcher is sharp as 7 total runs in 2.5 innings. Fouts going deep to a lot of batters which has been her MO for 2 year now. I have not seen her change up yet which she was working on with the national team during the world games.

I agree with you about her going deep in the count the last few seasons. I have seen her change up a couple times today. Just seems like batters are learning to time her up better these last few seasons

Bad call on Kenleigh!

Fouts shouldn't have pitched. We should went with Alex or Esman

2 routine errors by the SS. Another one was a weird hop that was given a hit. Not a good game for her and was an o fer at the plate

Didn’t really expect Bama to win against UCLA and was pleasantly surprised it was as close as it was. Esman had a good 6th inning which was another pleasant surprise. Prange continues to shine at the plate. I don’t see pitching carrying this team the distance and without better run support it has the makings of a marginal season at best. Not sure what’s up with Dowling but he might want to give her a look at short stop. Double header tomorrow.

Alabama Softball Falls in Close Battle with No. 2 UCLA, 5-3

The Crimson Tide continues play in Clearwater Saturday vs. No. 20 UCF and Indiana

In one of the marquee matchups at this year's TaxAct Clearwater Invitational, 15th-ranked Alabama fell in a close back-and-forth battle with No. 2 UCLA, 5-3, Friday night.

For the fourth time in its first five games, Alabama (3-2) scored first courtesy a first inning two-run home run from Ashley Prange before UCLA (9-0) responded in the bottom half with a grand slam to move ahead 4-2. Prange slugged her second homer of the game in the third inning, a solo shot that made it a one-run game but the Bruins got the run back in the next half-inning with an RBI single to push it to 5-3, which ultimately proved final.

The two homers marked Prange's fourth career multi-home run game, her first since opening weekend last season at Arizona. Larissa Preuitt also went 2-for-3 batting eighth, her second multi-hit game of her freshman season. Kenleigh Cahalan led off the game with a first-pitch single, the fourth time in the Crimson Tide's first five games she has reached base safely with the first at-bat of the game, including three hits and a walk. Montana Fouts (2-1) took the loss with 4.2 innings pitched while Lauren Esman went five-up, five-down in 1.1 relief innings behind her.

First-Inning Grand Slam Blasts UCLA Past Alabama, 5-3 (SI)

Ashley Prange's two home runs were not enough offense for the Crimson Tide to overcome the Bruins in Clearwater.

Double header on tap today. Would be oh so helpful to come away with 2 W’s. Kayla Braud is scheduled for both of the games. Game 1 on ESPN+ and game 2 on ESPNU.

Doesn't matter if we would of been run ruled...you need to build depth and playing them versus a tough opponent early on would of been perfect.

I keep telling people Esman is a good pitcher. She needs reps because she has stuff that Fouts doesn't have.

so explain why she was not used more at her previous school. She is better then our backups and may be our number 2. Either she or Torrance starts todays first game

Murphy apologists will say it's early in the season, they are still figuring it out, yada yada. To me, it looks like a Bama softball team that is the weakest one we've put on the field in years. Unless big strides are made, this is a middle of the pack SEC squad and will be lucky to make it out of a regional. No way they get to OKC this year.
And what will Uncle Pat do next year? Montana will be gone and he hasn't recruited the super workhorse pitcher he seems to have with every recruiting cycle. So where's his next J Train/Montana? No, Murphy shouldn't be fired, but Byrne should go to him and tell him the program needs to change direction or he needs to "retire" this year or next, his decision. If he doesn't change the downward trend or refuses, the decision will be made for him.
