lately Fouts has pitched the first two games and this is a good win since Alex pitched a shutout in game 2, leaving Fouts game 3.

Stupid base running by Bama in the first. Bama hitter hits a pop fly barely into the outfield and 3 State players converge on it but it’s windy and they misplay it and it falls to the ground. But instead of standing on 1st with a gift single, the Bama batter tries to stretch it to a double but the State player catches it on the first bounce and flips it to 2nd for the easy out.

Lockdown Defense Leads Alabama to Series Sweep at Mississippi State
The series sweep is the first this season for the Crimson Tide (
)
Lockdown defense helped lead Alabama softball to a 1-0 shutout Sunday over Mississippi State, securing the first series sweep of the season for the Crimson Tide.
The series sweep is the first of the season for Alabama (32-12, 9-6 SEC) and marks its third-straight conference series win. It is the Crimson Tide's 12th three-game sweep all time vs. Mississippi State (23-19, 3-11 SEC) and its first road sweep over the Bulldogs since 2012.
Alabama scored first for the third time this weekend, courtesy of a third-inning RBI single from Ally Shipman. In the home half of the same inning, the Bulldogs loaded the bases with one out before Ashley Prange fielded a hard one-hopper, stepped on the bag at third and fired over to first for an inning-ending double play to get out of the threat still leading by one. The score remained the same heading to the bottom of the seventh and Mississippi State got its leadoff batter on base, but Montana Fouts (17-6) and the Alabama defense retired the next three to secure the 1-0 shutout and the series sweep.
Emma Broadfoot accounted for two of the Tide's five hits on the day, with Shipman's third-inning RBI single driving in the lone run of the day for either team. Fouts earned her second win of the weekend, tossing her seventh shutout of the season, five of which have come in conference play.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"You have to start with Ashley Prange at third base. She made some hellacious plays on defense today with two double plays and the line drive to end the game. [Ally] Shipman got the only RBI of the day and Montana [Fouts] maybe had her C game today, but you have to find ways to win games like that. Five weeks ago, I'm not sure if we win a game like that but the defense came through and we got the timely hit. Sometimes the timely hit gets you a 1-0 win and sometimes its 8-7 but it's a win at the end of the day."

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey talks future of SEC baseball and softball tournaments
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey believes that the current locations of conference postseason play for baseball and softball will stay in place going forward.
The SEC softball tournament rotates between the 13 schools' stadiums, with Vanderbilt not sponsoring a varsity team while the baseball tournament has been at the Hoover MET since 1977. With the addition of Texas and Oklahoma in 2024, the baseball tournament is locked into Hoover through 2024.
"Obviously a tradition that has been established there, we had some initial conversations about our future and obviously those will engage much more intentionally moving forward. I also think about expansion and what opportunities could be there, can we add an upper deck to the Hoover MET," Sankey said during the APSE Southeast meeting."
Sankey credits the facility as a whole as a positive for the MET with the parking, practice facilities and the campus as a whole. Sankey called the city of Hoover and the MET "fantastic hosts" with everything they provide for the teams.
On the softball side, Sankey doesn't believe many other facilities in the country rise to the same level as the SEC campus sites.
"The best softball facilities in America I think are on our campuses, the Oklahoma City facility is a much, much larger place. It could, I would never say no but is that possibility there? There aren't just a lot of facilities, outside that one, that rise to the level of what's on our campuses."
The 2023 SEC softball tournament starts May 9 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, while the baseball tournament begins May 23.

First game is slipping away. Down 2 with only one inning of at-bats remaining. This whole road trip is idiotic and it was the trip to Western Kentucky for Kaylee Tow's family last year that the season completely went off the rails. Let's hope history isn't repeating itself.

Depending on how the season ends...I look for the Greg Byrne to give Coach Murphy the Ms. Duckworth treatment if he can't put it together.
