Alabama_Fan,
What’s the out look for gymnastics team this season? Did we upgrade at Coach?
Would sure like to get back to competing for championships regularly.

Well - she held the top ranked recruiting class together and signed the overall top ranked gymnast this year so she’s off to a good start in recruiting. There are 18 returning gymnasts and 6 freshmen and the team looks to be deep in every event. The team also has an “Oats-like schedule” this year. Pre season polls have us starting about where we ended up last season.
I’m still not sure if Duckworth was nudged out or if she was tired of it after hitting the 10 year mark, but that exit struck me as odd. Hopefully Coach Johnston can reinvigorate the program and get us back to filling up Coleman and competing for championships on a regular basis. All in all, I’m cautiously optimistic and very much looking forward to the start of the season.

Will Alabama's New Coach Bring Back Gymnastics Fans? All Things CW (SI)
If Ashley Johnston the coach is anything like Ashley Preiss was as a champion gymnast, the Crimson Tide's status in the sport may soon be on the rise again.

I caught the 3rd and 4th rotations. Not sure if what I saw was objectively good or not, but I was impressed.

a 198 is the score you are going to need to win a natty. So there are 4 rotations and 1/4 of 198 would be a great score after each rotation. We got 196.975 which is probably a good score for your first meet. You get your rankings based on how your scores match other schools. UTAH. UCLA. UF and LSU are teams that usually rank high at the end of the year. Bama is usually in top 10 at year end.

I think it was a good solid start. Not great - but something to build on. Here’s the rotation by rotation breakdown

Alabama Gymnastics Defeats Michigan State to Open 2023 Season
The Crimson Tide posted its second-highest season opener score in program history
Head Coach Ashley Johnston said
"I'm really proud of this team. Our goal tonight was to commit to the approach. I didn't want to get distracted with the score, with the win or the loss or with the little things on the way. I just wanted everybody to go out there and commit to their approach, meaning their mental cues, their breathing and the pre-meet rituals that they know help them be successful on each event. I feel like we accomplished that goal, and this win was a great starting point for us. I am excited about our girls that were able to get out there in the all-around. Luisa was a rockstar and did a fabulous job. Makarri Doggette stepped up as the leading scorer on vault and bars to help us get a strong start to the meet. Lilly (Hudson) is a rock and showed her fighting spirit out there. Freshman Gabby Gladieux showed why she's one of the best gymnasts in the country in the three events she performed tonight. Overall, we will celebrate the things we did well, and will go back to work to improve the details and be undeniable as we move through the upcoming weeks."

each routine will have different ladies perform as the coach is finding out who she wants to compete during crunch time. We need 49.5 out of each rotation to get to 198
