just cuz a kid comes off scholarship does not mean he loses his spot on the playing rotation. He and his dad would and should do it if it helps the team. AJJ aint sniffing pro Bb unless he plays in Nepal or Thailand.

Close friend on staff. That’s how I get all my info. Thought you knew.

Yep. Even if AJ Jr had Sexton's talent there wouldn't be any reason to keep him on scholarship. In state tuition is nothing compared to coach's salary.

He does both. Ask Trevor Lacey.
So Grant recruited an elite player, who wasn't ruined as he did just fine at NC St under Gottfried...
Sure you want to use Lacey as an example? It kind of disproves your point

No Alabama team has won >12 SEC games in a season since the 80s. Are you seriously trying to argue that the most SECW in almost 30 years is somehow tainted?

Who said Grant could develop kids? I sure AF didn't
You made claims that just playing for Grant would hurt your future ability to play basketball. Considering Green/Releford/Mitchell have all done just fine at Bama and playing pros NBA/overseas you clearly are wrong

I've seen a lot of Alabama basketball (I'm betting more than you) and the atmosphere around the program has never been worse
So your argument rests on fans not being excited about Alabama basketball? That is known as a WFE problem. As in Winning Fixes Everything.
You severely underestimate what it takes to kills a program that is a state flagship with a brand loyal following
Auburn has tried to kill its basketball program for decades. Yet the program was able to sell out season tickets in YR1 of a popular coaching hire for a bad team.

I mentioned earlier that Alabama could always give a "Retention bonus" to Avery to offset the loss in scholarship.

That story is hilarious

I knew Avery was good but was he "jersey retired" good?
I thought that was reserved for truly special players

I can't read Jerry Meyer's VIP article because I'm a poor, but the title implies that Walton will be visiting Tuscaloosa this week.

Avery was one of the best when it came to assists. Also hit the game winner in the NBA Finals that ended the series and gave them the title. He’s one of the best Spurs players ever. I think that shot of his is probably the main reason they wanted his jersey retired lol. It was one of their first (or possibly the very first) championship they had ever won

Would y'all rather have Rivny or a grad transfer? I like Rivny long term, but I'm worried about our point guard position this coming season. I think Ingram may move back to playing point guard this year though, and we don't need 4 point guards on the roster.

Grant may not be the anti-christ, but he almost single-handily destroyed our program and ruined a lot of talented players along the way.

I like what I hear and the limited clips I've seen on Rivny. He seems like a guy with high upside. Unless we could lock-down a grad transfer PG who could, no-question, come in and start right away, I'd take Rivny. While I haven't given up on next season and think we have a great shot at another NCAAT season, I'd much rather roll the dice with Butler/Ingram at lead guard and further prepare ourselves for what should be a huge season in 2019-20.

I agree. If we take Rivny, we'll only have two scholarship seniors on the roster. We'll need someone to transfer out, probably Giddens since he'll be able to grad transfer, to make room for Walton assuming Kira and Watford fill the first two spots.
ESPN has Herbert and Petty going pro after this season though, so we may have a lot of spots open.

Depends on the GT. To me the question also becomes who do you want Rivny or another available scholarship in next year’s class? I’d like Rivny but I also want at least a three man class next year too.

What are you talking about? The program was so damaged that in the 3 years after Grant, Bama has made 2 NITs and a NCAAT appearance.
Can Auburn sign up for some of that program ruining? That's more postseason appearances than AU has made in 15 years

With Norris and Hall set to depart, it would only take one of our guys declaring early or transferring to make that a possibility. Considering we've had 2 transfers each off-season under Avery, I'd expect a 3-man class to be a bare minimum for 2019.

Why can't you have both Rivny + 3 man class?
I don't see a realistic scenario where none of Giddens/Ingram/Mack grad transfer after next season if not other players leave
Giddens - He likely is overtaken this year already
Ingram - Ingram is unlikely to hold onto minutes if Petty/Herb/Mack returning + adding PGs Butler/Lewis and some SF minutes from Watford
Mack - I doubt Mack transfers, but if he can't beat out Ingram, just copy/paste that argument here

We can. Didn’t mean to insinuate otherwise; only that it would require roster attrition.
