I don't feel good about tonight. I honestly feel like we're gonna lose. Ottawa is good and we don't have 2 starters and a good backup. I hope I'm wrong tho.
This is a good test for the other guys. Puts the pressure on them and lets them see if they can get a win without Sexton. If we win tonight, that's huge for the other players confidence

I think this road trip will pay dividends in November. Let's go home and get healthy.
To the a-hole who keeps down voting every post I make, frick you. I could post that we are going to win the NCAA Tourney and they would downvote me. I don't know who it is, and I don't really care, but it is a bit annoying.

Landers Nolley cut his list from 32 to 16 and Bama's still in it

I haven't been able to watch any of the games yet, but has Sexton been settling for jump shots? Kind of envisioned him being someone who could shoot from beyond the arc if we needed, but was better at driving the lanes and being a great distributor.
Also said this in another theead, but kinda bummed to hear our ball movement is still the same. I know it's early, but I would hope to see better set ups. All this being said, it's way too fricking early to melt.

Most of Sexton's shots have been layups/jumpshots I think. The first game he was in foul trouble and didn't play much the second half and the stream was messed up the first half so I didn't get to see much of him. I wasn't able to watch the first half of the second game and then he was out the third game. So I didn't get to see him play much.
And the ball movement really didn't look much better than last year, but I'm not gonna freak out about it bc these guys haven't had many practices together. We still scored 96, 71, and 81 points in our games which is pretty good. I think it was a successful trip and they know what to work on now.

Our opponents were hedging the pick and roll with Sexton every time, so a lot of times the jump shot was the right play.

LSU is no longer recruiting Mitchell Robinson according to Jeff Goodman. It looks like Kansas might be the destination.

Who starts come opening day and who are the first 2-3 off the bench.
STARTERS
PG: Collin Sexton
SG: John Petty
SF: Dazon Ingram
PF: Braxton Key
C: Donta Hall
- This allows our 2 stud 5-Star Freshman (Sexton/Petty) to start off the game with our 3 best players from last year (Key/Hall/Ingram)
BENCH
PG: Avery Johnson Jr
SG: Ar'Mond Davis
SF: Riley Norris
PF: Riley Norris
C: Daniel Giddens
- Ar'Mond will be the backup SG, but with the risk that if Herb Jones is the real deal, Herb will take his minutes. For our sake, I hope to God Herb is ready.
- Riley Norris will back up both the SF/PF positions. If Alex Reese ends up being the real deal, he can take the back-up PF minutes, and let Riley just back up the SF minutes. If Reese isn't ready for the college game, Riley better get ready for heavy heavy heavy minutes off the bench.
OTHERS
Lawson Schaffer: Garbage Minutes
Landon Fuller: Garbage Minutes
Galin Smith: Redshirt, unless 1 of Donta/Giddens get injured
Tevin Mack: Not Eligible this Season

I agree with the starters, but I only see 3 bench players being in the rotation- Giddens, Norris, and AJ Jr. Herb is the only other guy I think could work his into the rotation. Reese, Smith, and Ar'mond will only get minutes outside of garbage time if there is foul trouble or injuries.

I like that lineup but Id think with Avery being a NBA guy that he would probably want Petty coming off the bench with his scoring

I wouldn't sleep on Smith. Great frame. Plus athleticism. Should be a solid rim protector/rebounder off the bench.

I don't think scoring punch off the bench is as valuable in the college game. The games are shorter and the season is way shorter. Your starters can play 30+ minutes in most cases without real fatigue issues. I see no way Petty doesn't start.

Petty looks like he's going to end up being the best player on the team. I can't see him not starting.

I'm not saying Petty won't be the best player on the team, but you shouldn't be judging this based off of 3 preseason games and an open practice. If you watched ArMond Davis in just a few games last year then you might have thought he was our best player. Shooters can get hot and cold, especially freshmen. I still think Sexton will be our best player on the team. I don't think it will be that close either.

Petty did a lot more than just shoot well though. He attacked the rim, passed the ball very well, and even did a decent job on the glass.
I agree that it's too early to say Petty is the best player, but it wasn't just him shooting well. He had 3 good all around performances.

I agree with this to a degree. His passing is very solid for a wing and it's always been that way. The rest of Petty's game was enhanced by his 12/21 3pt shooting. Even so, he shot just 6/16 from inside the arc.
Petty has some inside game, but by far the best part of his offensive game is his shooting. I think Petty will be a great piece for us this year, but 3 great preseason games isn't going to convince me that he's now our best player. That's my main point.

It'll probably be pretty quiet in here till October. AAU is wrapping up, done with Canada- I might start posting previews of our opponents. It'll pass the time.

Yeah there's not much to talk about right now. I'm sure there will be a few recruiting updates along the way but probably not much more than that.
