Let's hope King can be as good as advertised. I'm confident Key will come in and make an impact right away, but man would it be great if just one other transfer could come in and be another scoring threat.

Oh yeah definitely. We almost made the tourney this year and adding Dazon, Key, Davis, King, AJ Jr, and maybe one or two more should help us be good enough to make the tourney next year.

I saw that. Good luck to him.

quote:
-- Auburn’s 247Sports Crystal Ball lead for 2017 four-star combo guard and Bama legacy Jamal Johnson may correlate with the fact that the Birmingham (Ala.) Spain Park product isn’t hearing much from the Tide as of late. Johnson’s father, former Alabama great Buck Johnson, tells BOL that the UA staff has not come in for a visit lately and there’s “not much” contact between the two parties. Whether this stays the trend remains to be seen. The UA staff was scheduled to visit Spain Park earlier this month.
-- Alabama should be on the cusp of offering 2017 four-star shooting guard Herb Jones, according to the Moundville (Ala.) Hale Country product himself. The staff stopped in for a visit on April 7. The 6-foot-5 guard holds offers from Auburn and UAB, and says Alabama should be offering this weekend. Don’t expect Jones to commit on the spot should the staff offer; he’s beginning to garner a lot of interest and will likely take his time. He does, however, consider Alabama one of his top schools.
These are the most interesting things to me from BOL's basketball notes.

Good to see we're at least showing interest in Herb Jones. Hope we start showing a little more interest in Johnson. Sure, there are better players out there, but we need to lock down the top Div 1 talent in the state before AU becomes the home state favorite for recruits. Not a great look if we start losing legacies to a rival program.

Smh Avery is pulling a Nick Saban. It seems he is holding off for the higher rated guys rather than taking the good instate kids. Can't be doing that yo Johnson he would be a good get. Also Kentucky offered another SG after watching him recently and watching Petty struggle maybe they are taking the other instead of petty. I would expect Petty to drop in rankings.

Exactly!!! It worries me and makes absolutely no sense honestly.

I'm fine with slow playing Johnson if we land Jones, but if he's slow playing both of them in hopes of landing DJ Harvey and Troy Brown, then that's going to be a problem.

I think that's what he is doing. I think he believes his name is good enough to get them lol.

Hopefully he pulls the trigger on offering Jones this weekend and we can get a quick commitment. Then he should go put the full court press on those other guys.

He can't mess up this 2017 class. This class will determine the future of Bama basketball, IMO. I think we'll be fine because there's plenty of good 2017 kids but we don't need to miss out on the good ones like Johnson that we have a good shot with just to save a spot for an elite player that we may or may not have a great shot with.

I think he is looking for a 1 and done type of player which is cool but we could get a solid 4 players from in state alone.

Well hopefully he knows something that we don't about his chances with some of the top tier players we are recruiting. Maybe there's a reason he isn't recruiting Johnson hard.

I would take Johnson even if we land our top targets. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for going after the top dogs, but when you have a quality recruit that is a Bama-lock if pursued, you go hard after him, get a commitment, and worry about scholarships later.
IMO We can't alienate high-major talents that are Alabama legacies. That is going to give Auburn ammo that would be very harmful for both current and future in-state talent.

Totally agree...kind of weird how he skipped out on the visit last week.

I feel like we 0 chance at landing Troy Brown.

Judging from the interview he had with Evan Daniels, I'd say we're top 3 with Brown right now.

Here's a 25 minute video of Garrett Tucker from hoopseen.com talking about Alabama basketball recruiting. Mostly talks about the 2017 class. Said Avery's visit with Petty went well. Caliparis visit went well too. He said Alabama is right there closer than people think recruiting Petty. They talk about pretty much every big time 2017 in state player were recruiting and what kind of chance we have with them. They compared us landing Petty to when Saban landed Julio. Most of the video was stuff we already knew, some wasn't, but it's worth watching if u have time.
