THE MVP

LINK ]Arik Gilbert (5-star ATH | Marietta, GA) was an absolute beast, but that is what we’ve come to expect from the five-star athlete. He really shined as a tight end and many people believe that’s where he is going to end up for his college career.

Gilbert is a very fluid runner and has a very soft hands for a guy his size. He uses frame well to box out to defenders and make it easy for quarterbacks to get him the ball. He even made an outstanding catch on a Hail Mary play to win the game in the tournament playoffs.

Georgia and Tennessee are doing a great job with him and he is planning on going to their spring games. Clemson and Alabama are very much in the picture as well as many other programs. After some visits for spring practices, expect Gilbert to announce a short list.

THE NEXT FIVE

LINK ]Marc Britt (4-star WR | Miami, FL) showed off his speed and a bit more toughness than we’re used to seeing from him. The former Miami commit made some great catches over the middle and used his length to his advantage many times, but his speed and route running skills are what make him an elite prospect.

Miami is leading for Britt’s commitment, but Penn State and Auburn are pushing hard. Alabama and Penn State will get visits in mid-March while Syracuse, Florida and Auburn are expected to get visits in the summer.

LINK ]Fadil Diggs (4-star WDE | Camden, NJ) is going to pay defensive end in college, but he made life really hard on teams that tried to throw over the middle when he was playing middle linebacker. He used his length and anticipation skills to knock down passes and disrupt routes, stalling many drives.

Ohio State, Penn State and Alabama should get visits during his spring break and Texas A&M is going to get Diggs for an official visit in the spring or summer.

BULL MARKET: Vernon Broughton
(4-star SDE | Houston, TX)

Broughton is every inch of 6-foot-6 and a slim 280-or-so pounds, and could easily tack on another 15 or 20 pounds if he wanted to. He has great burst off the line of scrimmage and can push offensive tackles around. That’s the strength of his game.

The four-star struggled at defensive end to start one-on-ones, especially against elite competition. However, he shifted inside as a rush-tackle and began to kick it up a notch. He was too quick for interior lineman and certainly a mismatch. Broughton is a candidate to play multiple spots along a defensive front -- from 3-technique to a 5 -- and was a force to be reckoned with once he found a rhythm.

THE APPETIZER: Malik Hornsby
(4-star QB-DT | Missouri City, TX)

One of the top prospects in the area -- and the country -- arrived late to the Houston camp, but we got a small taste of the Rivals250 dual-threat as the quarterbacks and receivers finished up one-on-ones. Hornsby quickly warmed up and flashed why he’s one of the best passers in the country, leading his receivers, throwing with anticipation and doing so with a very smooth throwing motion.

Obviously, it’s hard to gauge everything Hornsby is capable of doing when he’s limited to throwing in the pocket. He could probably play receiver at the Power Five level with his dynamic speed, but he was extremely impressive throwing the rock, too, albeit in a small sample size. We’re expecting Hornsby to compete at the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp in Dallas and continue to show off his arm.

The 6-foot-8, 238-pound Washington is set to unofficially visit Georgia on Thursday and the Bulldogs, whom offered last summer, look to gain some momentum in that battle. Penn State and Tennessee are two others that currently have a lot of buzz.

The big tight end recently visited Penn State, Pitt and West Virginia and the Nittany Lions just picked up a commitment from his good friend Micah Bowens last week. Washington will visit Georgia this weekend and may check out Tennessee and Alabama later in the spring. He said out West, UCLA and Arizona State are making a big push and he plans to take all five of his official visits in the fall before making his decision, which likely be at the Under Armour AA Game in January.

Rogers has been paying attention to the offensive fireworks the Sooners have been putting up the last couple years in the passing game, so an offer from the Sooners would go a long way with him. The two L.A. schools, though, are both standing out to him. USC was his first offer and UCLA was his favorite school growing up. Rogers will visit both UCLA and USC in two weeks for an unofficial visit.
