Anyone else feel like Young is playing both sides of the fence? If Helton hangs onto his job, I feel like Young waits until Dec or even Feb and then decides to flip to Bama. If Helton gets fired, Young waits to see if all the rumors of Urban to SoCal are true or who else is a top candidate to replace Helton. If it’s a name to his liking, he stays home and sticks with the Trojans. And all the while telling both sides he’s coming.
I guess my gripe is just say you’re uncommitted at this point and take a wait and see approach. He’s a big enough fish that any team would make room for him, he’s got nothing to lose. I guess that’s just not the way kids do these days.

Bryce Young probably grew up a USC fan and it's close to home for his family to cone to games, etc. But he's also known and respected Sark for years, likes the open opportunity at Bama (a program loaded with talent that's on an epic run) to come in and compete for the starting QB job, since it's a safe bet Tua will go pro. Chances of him starting early at USC aren't as good. The chatter is that he's leaning very strongly toward flipping, but also likes Helton a lot and is trying to be respectful to him and USC, and therefore has talked to the media like his commitment is solid.
USC 2020 FB commits - One isn't like the others.
ETA: (1) His dad has a lot of say so in this and wants what's best for his son's future above all else. (2) If he's going to flip, it's best for Bama and him too if he does it by mid-season. Having him committed at QB would help in landing elite targets we're after, especially at WR and TE. (3) Most elite players want to be at a top program, full of elite talent that competes for and wins some conference and CFP titles. (4) Bama opens the 2020 season vs USC at Jerry World. He can start his college career at USC sitting on the bench, watching them get their shite pushed in, or potentially be the Bama's starting QB lighting up the scoreboard in front of a primetime nationwide TV audience.
Bottom line: I like our chances of flipping Young.

ya know, i'm just not as sure Tua goes pro as everyone else seems to be. if he graduates in december or early next year, then i suppose he would go pro. but i'm thinking his family is high on education and if he hasnt graduated, he may very well come back for his senior season. but thats jmo. either way, i'll be happy for the young man.

Tua enrolled early and takes summer classes too, so it's pretty likely he's on track to graduate in December.

I agree, most of the really talented guys, especially those who enroll early are set to graduate in 3. Almost have to want to NOT work the books, with the resources CNS has set in place, these kids have to just hold on and watch, POOF!!! there's the degree. So when they have NFL talent, they can declare early and know they have the degree to back them up after the NFL is over. I believe TUA will be heading out after this season ends, with the possibility of being #1...just cant let those $$$'s languish on the table.

USC isn’t really going to be relevant for awhile no matter what happens. Heck that whole conference is pretty irrelevant. If he wants to play big boy ball, he knows the move.

Recruiting notebook: Latest on Alabama and Auburn commits, others with Power 5 offers
quote:
Alabama commit hears from others
Calera defensive tackle Jayson Jones has been committed to Alabama for more than a year, but that doesn’t mean other schools have stopped recruiting the 6-foot-6, 340-pounder.
Jones said Georgia Tech, Florida and Oregon are the schools showing him the most attention, despite his longtime commitment to Alabama.
Jones has a new head coach this season, as former assistant Trey Simpson takes over after former Alabama quarterback Andrew Zow left a few months ago for Bessemer City.
“It’s been easy,” Jones said of the coaching change. “I like Coach Simpson.”

Three-Point Stance: The hunt for No. 1 class, rankings questions

Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell’s three point stance is here with thoughts on the race for No. 1, some interesting topics for 2020 rankings meetings next week and some random recruiting thoughts.

1. FIVE PROGRAMS THAT COULD FINISH WITH THE TOP 2020 CLASS
The battle for the No. 1 class in the country for 2020 has a long way to go as it’s only August but things are starting to shape up. There are only a few legitimate candidates. Here’s my breakdown of who could be No. 1….
Clemson – The Tigers aren’t No. 1 right now but you have to think they will finish No. 1 if they keep recruiting the way they are. In-state defensive end Jordan Burch and California linebacker Justin Flowe are just two of the elite targets left on the Clemson target list and you just know they will close with some big names. It won’t be a huge class by the numbers, but I can’t see how it doesn’t end up No. 1. I’d put them at even odds to win it all.
LSU – Ed Orgeron has been doing a great job recruiting nationally and these Tigers remain No. 1 right now with three more commitments than Clemson. They still have some big targets left but they have to hang onto five-stars Elias Ricks and Rakim Jarrett which could be difficult. I think they lose a commit or two along the way and finish anywhere from No. 2 to No. 5. I'd say the are at 3-to-1 odds to win it all.
Alabama – The Crimson Tide can never be counted out when it comes to the battle for No. 1 and they are not far off from LSU and Clemson right now. I could see them closing strong as usual and ending up No. 2 or even No. 1 especially if they land guys like Zachary Evans, Darnell Washington or a few other huge names. I’d put ‘Bama at 3 to 1 odds as well.
Georgia – I’m skipping over Ohio State right now because I think Georgia has a better chance at No. 1 with its gaudy star average and plenty of room in the class. Five-star running back Kendall Milton pushed the Bulldogs to No. 5 in the country and with only 16 commitments they will be adding major points with each new pledge. If they can land cornerback Kelee Ringo, tight end Arik Gilbert and some others they will push once again to be No. 1. I'd put Georgia at 6-to-1 odds to win the whole thing.
Ohio State – This is a big longshot, especially with Bijan Robinson trending to Texas, but you can never count out the Buckeyes even though they’ve never won the recruiting title. Ryan Day is a great recruiter, there are plenty of rankings changes to come and they are still involved with some big names. However, I’d put them at 20-1 odds.

Predictions on top five uncommitted 2020 linebackers
quote:
With the dead period over and rankings updates around the corner, now is a perfect time to take a look at the top uncommitted prospects at each position. Last week we looked at each of the offensive positions and this week the spotlight is on the defensive side of the ball. Here is a summary of where the recruitments of the top uncommitted linebackers stand heading into their senior seasons.

Justin Flowe
Top contenders: Clemson, USC, Oregon
Recruiting outlook: Flowe has been one of the most coveted prospects in this class for the last few years, but only Clemson, USC, and Oregon have a legitimate shot at signing the five-star. A visit to Clemson over the weekend resulted in the Tigers becoming the clear favorite, but it’s still a long road until signing day. Oregon has been working hard to make a move with Flowe but the real wildcard could be USC. He is very familiar with the program and this season will have a lot to do with how much of a contender the Trojans are when it comes time to signing on the dotted line.
Farrell’s take: I’m inclined to say Clemson ,because betting against Dabo Swinney and company is foolish, but I think he picks USC in the end. It’s just a hunch. I think Clay Helton gets the ax and USC hires a big-name coach that lures Flowe into the fold.

Reggie Grimes
Top contenders: South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama
Recruiting outlook: Grimes, an Alabama legacy, seems to be trending toward South Carolina and the in-state Vols. Both teams have a major need for an edge player like Grimes and his recent visits seem to have gone very well. The Tide could come back into the picture with the likely departure of Eyabi Anoma ,but we’ll see how that plays out.
Farrell’s take: I think he’s Alabama’s if they want him but, the Tide haven’t recruited him as hard as the Gamecocks and the Vols. Right now I would say South Carolina lands Grimes unless ‘Bama turns up the heat.

quote:
Phillip Webb
Top contenders: Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Florida State
Recruiting outlook: Auburn looks like the frontrunner for Webb, but this race isn’t over yet. The Tigers need to hold off Alabama and the Tigers from Clemson and LSU. Multiple visits to Auburn and the relationships he’s formed there give the Tigers confidence but a recent visit to Clemson could change things. You can’t count out Alabama or LSU, either and upcoming visits should be very telling.
Farrell’s take: Auburn has been the leader for awhile and I think he has a great comfort level with Gus Malzahn and company. I think that wins out in the end.
