I am really really pumped about this recruiting cycle. From about two years ago, back until the time I was born, I probably watched the equivalent of 1 Alabama basketball game. Last season, I watched at least 30 full games.
If we are lucky enough to land a few of the studs that we are talking to, I started wondering where we would rank nationally in the team rankings. This is Alabama, a football school, so anything in the top 25 would just be crazy good. So, I decided to look at the team rankings the last 3 recruiting cycles, and find similar classes to what we might get this year and see where they were ranked. The results got me even more excited!
Scenario A
Bama signs five star Collin Sexton, four-star Alex Reese, and four-star Herb Jones
2014
Ohio State and UCLA each had one 5 star, two 4 stars and one 3 star. Ohio State finished 6th, UCLA finished 8th.
Florida had one 5 star and two 4 stars, they finished 14th.
2015
FSU, Michigan State, and Mississippi State all had one 5 star and two 4 stars. FSU finished 11th, Michigan State finish 13th, and Mississippi State finished 22nd.
2016
North Carolina and Kansas each had one 5 star, and two 4 stars. North Carolina finished 12th and Kansas finished 16th.
If Scenario A happens, I think you are looking at a best case of Bama finishing around 6th or 7th, and at worst finishing around 15th or 16th. This scenario would be amazing for this team and fans!
Scenario B
Alabama signs five star Collin Sexton, five star John Petty, four-star Alex Reese, and four-star Herb Jones
2014
Arizona had one 5 star, three 4 stars, and one 3 star. They finished 3rd.
UNLV had one 5 star, two 4 stars, and two 3 stars. They finished fourth.
Louisville had zero 5 stars and four 4 stars. They finished 5th.
2015
Arizona had two 5 stars and two 4 stars. They finished 3rd.
Texas A&M & Ohio State each had zero 5 stars, and five 4 stars. Texas A&M finished 4th, and Ohio State finished 5th.
2016
Michigan State had two 5 stars and two 4 stars, and they finished 3rd.
Texas had one 5 star, and three 4 stars. They finished 5th.
If Scenario B happens, which isn't the most likely, but it definitely has a chance now that we have gotten the last 2 crystal balls for John Petty, I think you can expect Bama to finish in the 3rd - 5th range. Scenario A would be HUGE, but scenario B would change this program forever. Either one brings great great excitement to Bama basketball though, roll tide. Buckle up baby!

2 more exciting components about the 2017 class that I didn't mention up there ^...
1.) 4-star Rayshaun Hammonds is a strong possibility too, so we could be adding him to scenario A or B for an even stronger class.
2.) Although he does'nt count in the recruiting rankings, 4-Star Daniel Giddens will begin his basketball career at Alabama when the 2017 class gets here. So that's pretty much another stud that will be connected to this 2017 class.

I hear what your saying but under Gottfried and even sometimes with Grant we were in the top 25 on a regular basis I'm sure. Its just that we didn't know what to do with the talent and had a lot of turnover.

I agree. It'd be a cluster if they slow played him only to miss out on their top target.

Our staff better know something that we don't about their chances with some elite players to be letting Herb slip away as reported

Ok, Collin Sexton is officially getting recognition now. His name is in Lil Yachty's song "All in" lol that's awesome!

Maybe from a media standpoint, but they've never seemed super high on him. In the end, it doesn't matter what our board looks like, it matters what there's is. If they get who they prefer over Jones then I'm fine with it, no matter they're individual rankings.
