Hall had 8 and 5 in limited minutes. If he can go, I'm for it

so sounds like the Aub President thinks the hoops program is still in a world of trouble based on these quotes:

quote:

“We’re thrilled that we’re winning,” said Auburn President Steven Leath. “But it is an interesting dynamic.”

“Clearly Bruce knows that sooner or later he’s going to have to come in and talk to me and others on campus about what’s going on in the program, and we’re moving toward a solution on that.”

“At some point, (the NCAA) will be here,” Leath said. “Yes, they will be here.”

#2 in Steal %

This is a surprise to me, but I believe has a lot to do with Herbie Jones + active hands by the big men inside. They've seemed to get quite a few big man steal on entry passes

Yeah, Donta Hall and Key in particular knock a lot of balls loose as well as the young guy Smith having pretty quick hands.

A lot of it though is also how long and athletic all four guards are on the perimeter.

In addition to Jones, Sexton, Ingram and Petty all force a lot of turnovers. Sexton's a very good all-around defender as is Ingram and Petty, while not great in some aspects, is still long and active on the perimeter.

First Alabama team in a long time that reminds me of Wimp Sanderson era teams in the amount of long, athletic defenders everywhere.

Keep in mind that >50% of Alabama's opponents are in the bottom 75-100 in 3FG%

Compare that to 4 top 100 3FG% teams, only 1 in the top 50 (Mercer #29)

Memphis: 29.1% #342
MSU: 29.2% #341
Texas: 30.0% #338
UCF: 31.0% #327
Lipscomb: 31.9% #306
UGA: 32.1% #300
Vandy: 32.4% #286
USCe: 32.4% #285
Bama A&M: 32.4% #281
TAMU: 33.2% #245

So we are holding poor 3pt shooting teams to a poor 3pt shooting percentage? Seems good to me.... I'm not really seeing the negative here.

Herb is the key to our success Saturday. I wanna see him lock down Young.

Avery said Collin is a “gametime decision” again for Ole Miss, but added Collin will have to do a lot to prove he’s ready to play. Said as of this moment he’s not healthy enough. I’m guessing Collin will be out again. Hopefully he’s good to go by Saturday. Would hate to miss out on the Sexton vs Young matchup

For us to beat OU we are gonna need Collin's offense and for Petty to be on from 3, plus Herbs defense.

The negative is that it strongly suggests we aren't actually playing anything other than average 3 point defense because teams are performing at or near their season averages against us. I took Gene's games, added our other conference games, and then put in bold what those teams shot from 3 against Alabama.

As you can see (particularly in conference), teams are overwhelmingly within a few percentage points of their seasonal 3pt average against us. The notable exception is aTm who we blew the frick out.

It doesn't mean we're really bad at defending the 3, it simply means we're average. Problem is that if we're average against Oklahoma we're going to get 'tenderly loved'.

Memphis: 29.1% 11.8%
MSU: 29.2% 30.4%
Texas: 30.0% 26.9%
UCF: 31.0% 46.7%
Lipscomb: 31.9% 25.9%
Bama A&M: 32.4% 53.3%

TAMU: 33.2% 9.5%
Vandy: 32.4% 40%
UGA: 32.1% 31%
USCe: 32.4% 33%
LSU: 35% 28%
Auburn: 37.3% 34.6%
MSU: 30.2% 30.4%

I wasn't saying it as a negative, just giving context to a 3FG% defense rankings provided.

Eh... there's a little more underneath these comments than you'd think. This has more to do with the Bruce vs Leath power dynamic and less to do with any compliance issues Leath has been trying to sow the seeds to fire Bruce for quite awhile now

Who also were without the only two 3FG shooters (Hogg/Gildner) who shoot above their season average

With how much hype thatmatchup is getting, it would be super anticlimatic

I'm hoping he is good to go

9-0 when we win the rebounding battle

9-1 when we hold the opponent under 40% shooting

38-43 at Ole Miss (seems worse)/ALa leads overall 120-57

Ole Miss -1 at first look.

When someone posted that Alabama was 120-57 vs Ole Miss, I was certain that every single loss to them was on the road.

Sports-reference has it at 31-34 (prob missing some old games )...

Alabama by their database is 53-8 at home vs Ole Miss, 31-34 on the road. No coach has a losing record at home vs Ole Miss

here is a fun breakout of coaches at Ole Miss

Johnson: 1-1
Grant: 0-5
Gottfried: 4-8
Hobbs: 3-4
Wimp: 10-4
Newton: 6-5
Riley: 4-2
Lambert: 1-2
Dee: 2-1
Burdette: 0-2

Interesting to say the least. That middle part definitely sounds like the President kind of calling Pearl out. Surprised that was a public comment.

The part that would scare me for AU is the months and months of wiretapped phones. I mean who knows who he talked to and what was said.

16 hours of conversations and nothing good will come out of any of that.

Shouldn't be too surprising if you've been following the Pearl/Leath saga. Quite a few influential AU people have said Leath set in motion firing Bruce/cleaning house but overplayed his hand/support. Even if Bruce were to be completely cleared, a lot of AU people are worried the Leath/Pearl relationship is unsalvageable long term.

It hasn't helped that not only did Leath find out he didn't have the power to fire a coach after going just 18-14, but now Bruce is all but untouchable for Leath

Honestly, not really worried about the wire taps. I'd bet money not a single second of those wire taps are heard by any of the public/schools/NCAA since Chuck Person likely takes a plea deal. Even if he goes to trial, they only put the relevant bits into the record so unlikely to involve others like Bruce.

Person's situation w/ FBI was a pretty clear self enrichment scheme. If you need more proof of it, just look at him trying to involve Collin Sexton. Unlikely that anyone else at AU is involved as he'd have to split the $

That doesn't mean AU is clean, just that nothing that is likely to implicate Bruce/staff or others appears to have been discovered
