A New York family was given a baseball bat as a gift decades ago by a family member of a former Yankees groundskeeper. Little did they know years later that bat was used by Lou Gehrig from 1929-31. For over 30 years the family kept it behind the front door of their home for "protection"...

The bat is will be hitting the auction block through Love of the Game Auctions with an opening bid of $20,000. Wow.

How does the gift giver not preface this gift/bat with the fact that is was Lou Gehrig's?

Straight to the auction block! I don't understand some people. If I stumbled upon a treasure like this right under my nose, I would cherish it and keep it in my family for as many generations as possible.
