LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker spoke with the media after spring practice on Thursday and was asked about Harold Perkins switching to the STAR position next season and the versatility it brings to the defense.
quote:

"I just think the STAR is so versatile," Baker said. "And quite frankly, we sat down at the end of the year, and I asked, 'Where are you most comfortable?' And he said the STAR."

"He’s got that capability to still allow us to be flexible from a coverage standpoint, but I do think that he’s a really, really good space player. I think with that position, you’re able to do a lot of different things with him."

"It will also keep offenses not necessarily knowing where he’s going to line up every single snap. Whether it be pressure, coverage, or him being on the line of scrimmage, we're able to do many different things."

"That’s kind of like the little secret sauce in this defense. The more position flexibility that guy gives you, the more versatile we can be on defense."
Perkins suffered a season-ending ACL injury vs. UCLA last season, which is keeping him out for spring football. Head coach Brian Kelly said earlier this month that Perkins, along with linebacker Whit Weeks, are on track to be cleared for summer workouts ahead of fall camp.

The guy was loafing before he got hurt. I called him out a couple of times. Take those games before he got hurt, what 4 or 5, and match that with Whit Weeks 4 or 5 games and see how many plays they made, how many mentions on TV and there is no comparison. He thought he could just show up and be a 1st round pick.

I HOPE he's learned his lesson.

His sauce is between his ears. He better learn to cook or his arse will be a middle round pick. Being fast isn’t going to be enough for a tweener like him at the next level.
He is constantly over running plays and misdiagnosing them.

Careful with those words. The “line him up on da edge and blitz him every play” crowd won’t like that.

Lmao dude stfu. He’s coming off an injury. And is definitely a difference maker. He was coached by a joke of a coach before Baker got here. Was playing out of position too. And was still tearing it up. I swear LSU fans hate LSU more than any other school.
