LSU’S JOE BURROW ADDS TO WEEKLY AWARD LIST WITH DAVEY O’BRIEN QB OF WEEK HONOR

BATON ROUGE – LSU quarterback Joe Burrow picked up a second national offensive player of the week award on Tuesday afternoon as the senior was named National Co-Quarterback of the Week by the Davey O’Brien Foundation.

Burrow shared the honor with Minnesota quarterback Tanner Morgan, who directed the Gophers to an upset over fourth-ranked Penn State.

The Davey O’Brien honor marks the third award for Burrow this week as he’s previously been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, along with teammate Clyde Edwards-Helaire, as well as being selected as the Maxwell Award National Player of the Week.

It’s the third time this year that Burrow has been named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week. He also picked up the award following wins over Texas and Florida.

In the win over Alabama, Burrow directed an LSU offense that racked up 46 points and 559 yards of total offense. The 46 points were the most by an LSU team in the 84-game series history against Alabama and the most the Crimson Tide have allowed in regulation in a game played in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Burrow completed his first 13 passes and went on to connect on 31-of-39 attempts for 393 yards and three touchdowns. He added 64 rushing yards to finish with 457 yards of total offense, the third-highest total in school history.

His 31 completions tied a career-best and ranks No. 3 in school history and he extended his school-record for passing TDs in a season to 33. He also became just the fourth player in LSU history to pass for 3,000 yards in a season. He became the first player in LSU history to throw for 300 yards in seven games in a season, topping the previous mark of six set by Rohan Davey in 2001.

Burrow, who is now 19-3 as LSU’s starting quarterback, guided the Tigers to their fourth win over a Top 10 ranked team this year. It’s also the eighth Top 10 win for LSU with Burrow at quarterback, which is the most for nay player at that position in school history.

Burrow goes into the Ole Miss game leading the SEC and ranking No. 2 in the nation in passing yards (3,198), passing yards per game (355.3), and passing TDs (33). He’s also first in the SEC and No. 3 in the nation in points responsible for (218) and total offense (376.3). He’s on pace to break every LSU single-season passing record.
