Leonard Fournette Ends Season With Rushing Title

LSU sophomore running back Leonard Fournette was named the NCAA rushing champion for 2015 with an average of 162.8 yards a contest. Per The Advocate:

Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry of Alabama needed to rush for 381 yards against Clemson in Monday night’s CFP Championship Game to surpass Fournette’s 162.8 yards per game average.

Henry finished with 158 yards on 36 carries, giving Fournette the title.

The NCAA recognizes college football’s annual rushing champion based on yards per game and not total rushing yards.

Fournette rushed for 1,953 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2015.

Fournette's production in that game had nothing to do with Fournette and everything to do with what the Alabama deffensive front did to the LSU o-line. Nobody can produce when there's absolutely nowhere to run, it's simply a matter of physics. I guarantee you that if Henry played for LSU, he wouldn't have gotten even the 30 plus yards that Fournette got.

Yeah, if Fournette had those same stats but played for, say, Northern Illinois, I could see him not being in the top 5 or top 3. But having those numbers in the SEC and being snubbed from New York is BS.

Don't get me wrong, I love Fournette and he definitely deserved to be in New York. But when it comes down to it, Henry excelled greatly in that game when it mattered most and unfortunately Fournette did not.

With that being said, I like Fournette's chances next year and expect him to have much more successful career in the NFL than Henry or any Bama backs for that matter.
