Brian Kelly Provides New Injury Update On Chris Hilton Heading Into USC Opener

LSU's Brian Kelly joined the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday and was asked for an injury update on wide receiver Chris Hilton, who he listed as "questionable" with a bone bruise earlier this week.

Kelly said that Hilton has been working with trainers and will put pads on in practice today. The hope is that he can progress from "questionable" to "probable," but they will have to see how he does in practice over the next few days.

It's a bruise. There's really nothing structurally to heal. It's a pain tolerance thing that won't be delay healing if he plays. Honestly, the rigorous exercise may actually improve his healing.

Had a bone bruise on my heel when I was still a young buck running track. I’ve had sprained ankles that were easier to run on. They are very painful. I wouldn’t be shocked if he can’t play.

An acute bone bruise is very painful, more so if you put pressure on it or knock it. So it depends on which bone is bruised and where (worse if it's a joint, especially a weight-bearing bone). I had one recently on anterior aspect of distal right tibia ABOVE the ankle and it didn't limit me in any way, though it was painful. Now when I swung my leaf blower and hit it, even that plastic tube brought out a few choice words.

Bone bruises vary in many ways. Sometimes it prevents mobility regardless of pain and can carry on for longer if not allowed to heal. If he can tolerate it, he will play.
