College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein has reported that former LSU head coach Johnny Jones will be resigning as Texas Southern's head coach and returning to Baton Rouge to join Will Wade's staff.

The DeRidder, La. native played at LSU from 1980 to 1984 and was the Tigers' head coach from 2012 to 2017. He was also an assistant at LSU under Dale Brown for 12 seasons.

Jones played in the 1981 Final Four as a freshman at LSU, and later served 12 seasons as an assistant coach at LSU under Dale Brown where the pair returned to the 1986 Final Four.
Jones went 90-72 (.556) overall and 42-48 (.467) in the SEC during his five seasons as LSU's head coach, and made the NCAA Tournament just once. He was fired at the end of the 2016-2017 season and was replaced by Will Wade.

Jones has been the head coach at Texas Southern since 2018, compiling a 133-125 overall record with three trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Jones is the second former SEC head coach to join Wade's new staff, along with former Mississippi State head coach Rick Stansbury.

Well, he was a pro at paying players when he was on Dales staff, so he could possibly fit right in for Wade.
