I don't care if throngs of bros invade Athens in their Brodozers to see tattoo country music. If they have fun, then good for them.

Just as I don't care if someone spends $150 to see 70 year olds play songs that were marginal in the 70s and who had the lack of integrity to make a disco album....

If it makes you happy...

I don't really care who does or doesn't play in Sanford. I dont' like that music, but it was a good thing for Athens and I'm sure it brought some money and exposure to the city and campus.

I do take some umbrage with the guitar in B-M though. That should be nothing but athletics. Sears trophy, final four memorabilia, 2 Heismans....jason aldeans guitar. Just doesn't fit. I mean sure it was in Sanford, but I mean it doesn't have anything to do with UGA Athletics. Plus, 10 years from now people will be asking "who is jason aldean?". Just seems like an odd choice to add it there. Why not put it in the lobby of the School of Music building?

I mean, I'm not going to get all bent out of shape about it, but I agree that it is totally out of place.

Aldean didn't play sports at UGA. Hell, he didn't even go to UGA. Wayne Knight should have some memoribilia in there before that guy. Plus, a Fender acoustic? Jason Aldean, can you do ANYTHING right?

Thomas Rhett's daddy played QB at least lol

I want a better mix country show at Sanford of GA stars
Alan Jackson
Zac Brown Band
Lady A
Corey Smith

That gives country music fans something across the board

He's a Georgia native and life long sidewalker Dawg fan. Which puts him in the second to highest "Fan Authenticity Level" as discussed in a previous thread.

So, hats off to to the present regime at UGA for breaking this archaic sidewalker barrier by finally honoring sidewalk fan contributions!

Seriously, I don't think some of you realize what a big deal Aldean and Luke Bryan and co are. They basically run "country" music right now. And are probably both in the upper-levels in sales for ALL MUSIC worldwide. Not just "country".

I saw part of a San Francisco giants game the other day, and they play that shite between innings with left coast san francisco commies and queers bobbing their heads and raising $10 dollar beers in the air while rocking out to it....

Just a couple dudes from Georgia. Who are worldwide phenomenons.

How appropriate. So you are saying Aldean should be honored by UGA because commies and queers love him? That's a rather strange argument.

And I laugh.

No. The point of the story about san francisco Giants playing Aldean/Luke Bryan to a stadium full of left coast queers and commies......was to illustrate the broad nationwide appeal of Aldean and co's music.

The business minds at UGA are smart to celebrate this connection they have to a couple of very marketable and popular "artists".

I still don't understand the controversy here.

Georgia has a relatively new, up-and-coming music business program. What would be cool is if those guys contributed something to that.

I'm pretty sure we are calling BDS UGA's second home stadium, so we actual deserve to take the credit for the Stones and Pink Floyd.

we agree on something Jeff...how bout that!!

oh and to the guy that said aldean would be a nobody in 10 years....I beg to differ...his first album came out 10 years ago..and he is still going strong...more people like these guys than don't...so maybe all the music snobs as Jeff said should rethink your positions...you might be on the wrong side of history....oh and btw...I listen to a great deal of Panic, DBT, Isbell, and many other groups/artists...that you guys refer to all the time...I also listen to Outkast/Ludacris/Jawga Boyz etc....additionally I enjoy the Taylor Swift 1989 album...not to mention tons of classic rock stuff...specifically southern rock...and Foo Fighters is one of my favorite bands ever...because I am a music lover....im eclectic..saying only one brand of music is good and everything else sucks is ignorant imho

Yea, I've never understood the point of saying a band sucks or an artist sucks. Can the music that Luke Bryan puts on the radio be cheesy? Hell yea, but that's what sells now. If you listen to his albums and hear the songs he doesn't put on the radio, you'd realize he's very good and has some really good songs. It's all objective and these guys obviously don't suck or else they wouldn't be given the opportunity to play in Sanford Stadium....

I think that this tattoo country thing which kinda started with Kid Rock and turned into a lot of acts chasing that demograph is pretty low IQ in its content and target audience, but maybe that is what they were shooting for. They have money too.

Well of course. Same reason big bang and 2.5 men are/were shattering TV ratings, because it's easy and appeals to the lowest common denominator, while absolutely brilliant shows like arrested development get canceled after 3 seasons because people are so confused that there's no laugh track telling them what's supposed to be funny.

Florida/Georgia line, jason aldean, and that ilk just throw a couple stereotypes about beer, trucks, dirt roads, girls, field parties, and hometowns together over a pre-recorded track and it makes millions. Of course that's their goal. I'm not saying anything one way or the other about how "good" they are or the people who do like them...my thing is that that guitar has no business in B-M and I'll stand by that.

True. What gets lost in the argument is that when I go to a concert at Sanford to see Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean, it's not because I think they are incredible singers or songwriters. I'm going to get drunk and tailgate and sing along to some top 40-type songs with 70k other people.

It was fricking great. I loved that concert. But his guitar shouldn't be in the atheletics admin building.
