I blame michael stipe for all this athens ga musical snobbery...

He's taught several generations of Georgians to be pretentious and unbearably snobbish and self-absorbed about something as frivolous and unimportant as music is.

frick you Stipe!

Florida/Georgia line, jason aldean

although you may think so...these two are not one in the same as you suggest...FGL is not very talented...I really don't dig much of their stuff even though I'm pretty eclectic...Aldean on the other hand does have some talent ....I think you are throwing out canvasses that make your comments sound ignorant...and I know you are not...and the argument about "bro" country gets laughed at by those who listen to country because just like the comments that all country is about dogs dying and wives leaving and beer is ignorant and usually just discarded because it just simply not true...you seem like a guy who likes some good stuff...you obviously like Floyd...and I do too....but what if somebody who probably doesn't listen to Floyd as much as you do says that they suck and that all they are is a drugged out psychedelic jam band that is weird and washed up?...it would irritate you...its the same thing...people have different tastes and different music is good for different things....when I drink beer at the river...im listening to easy going fun crowd music...if I'm by myself outside grilling meat or in my truck on a long drive, I'm listening to something that I can delve into...become one with and learn from...point is...it is ok to like Jason Isbell and listen to Aldean imho...

ultimately I have no issues with the guitar being hung in BM...its just a guitar

Good points, I agree with your thought process. If someone said that about floyd, I would realize that the only floyd they're familiar with is probably 2 or 3 songs from the radio. They probably wouldn't realize the sheer brilliance of the band, and appreciate the clear proression they made as a band from the early psychadelic days where they just jammed into a musical power form the early 70s through the mid 80s.

I think this is a bit different though. The brantley gilbert songs I listened to in college are the same kinda songs I hear today. I haven't heard much variation out of aldean either. Now, I readily and freely admit I don't have all their albums and haven't heard every song they've ever made. I realize FGL is different than the rest, in a much shittier way. They are a joke and should be laughed out of the industry. Aldean does appear to have some talent...although I think my generalization about his music does ring somewhat true. And I never said you were in the wrong for enjoying his music a the lake or on the grill or whatever...music is subjective and you like what you like.

My main point, which I stand by, was that the reason him and others as SO popular is because it's easy. It appeals to a mass audience using simple stereotypes for the most part, just like big bang theory. Nothing wrong with that, just saying.

ignoring all the above though, since it's just opinion that doesn't mean anything...I don't think the guitar should be there as it has nothing to do with UGA athletics, unless you want to make the VERY LOOSE connection that the concert was played in a place that one of our teams plays. But there's been concerts at stegeman before, why no relics from there? BM should be a place to display our athletic achievements, accomplishments, and awards. A guitar from a concert that just happened to be in the stadium doesn't belong. The music building would be an absolutely perfect spot for it, no reason why it shouldn't go there.

I read your posts as if you are a guy who has used his share of substances. You have the whole "train of thought" aspect down with all the ellipses.

It makes me value your input on music more, for some reason.

I guess there is an argument that BM should not house things that are not directly related to the athletic program...but I guess it is a tip of the hat to those artists or a thank you of sorts and probably somebody viewed it as a sort of recruiting tool...you would be surprised how many guys in that age group know who these guys are....some of them have never heard of Panic...(unfortunate as it may be)...so it makes us look cool and hip and all that shite...if it gets some kid who is on the fence...so be it...I mean you saw the pics of Gurley with Luke Bryan...hey if more Gurleys come as a result of the school hanging up other items such as this guitar in the future...so be it...

Ok let me ask you this. We've obviously only had 1 concert in sanford so we don't have much to go off. What if it was taylor swift though? Would we put her guitar in BM? I would probably guess no...why not? Because aldean is a uga fan? That doesn't seem right. It's not just that he played teh first concert, since we can probably assume that factor wouldn't be in play for EVERYone, so we're putting his guitar in BM because he likes the football team? Idk...just doesn't seem right to me.

I have no doubt that a lot of folks on teh team like these guys. I'm sure they do. But that shouldn't mean we should tack up a bunch of their equipment in our athletic building.

if t-swizzle plays Sanford...they should most definitely hang some shite up in BM and anywhere else...specifically pictures of her...

I get your point though...I guess it was cause he is a fan...and so are those other guys with the exception of Jake Owen...he's an FSU guy if I'm not mistaken...

Let's try a thought exercise to eliminate personal preferences...

If for some reason Public Enemy had a reunion tour and made a stop at Sanford would you be cool with Flava's clock hanging in BM?

There's your answer as to whether this is a good practice..

The musical snobbery thing was in Athens well before REM made any noise. In fact, by 1988 when REM 'sold out' they were very much on the outs with the Townies. It was very uncool to like REM by then. That snobbery still exists and then there are snobs of snobs. It is very confusing.

In fact, the schtick of the tatoo country movement is really similar in look and feel to the 80s Americam Pop Punk thing.

It doesn't matter whether we are talking about TV, Movies or Music--ninety percent of everything is crap.

Are people who dislike Adam Sandler snobs?
