Congrats to them.

They're programs that make an effort. Look at South Carolina before Martin. They got their shot togeather and straightened up.

There is no SEC East in basketball.

Really dude? I know there no divisons in SEC basketball.

But since you brought it up:

All I said was SEC East. I never alluded to the SEC East as a basketball organization. Sounds a lot better than anything else.

4 from the east made it and all four should have gone past the first round if not for Fisher Davis' foul.

League as a whole was greatly underrated this year.

All together now: "SEC (EAST)! SEC (EAST)! SEC (EAST)!"

But get off the pipe. We can't do that at UGA, no coach will come, and no coach will stay. Be content with Fox for life because it could be worse. It can't be a lot worse, but it could be somewhat worse.

I mean... Kentucky? They have had their shite together a long time. They have more 5 stars committed this year than we have had in 25 years.

UF? They are one we can look to as they advanced and have sustained overall. They have had some good coaches and really put a lot into the program.

USC- on a great run lead by an elite player who is hot. They did build a nice, new arena and play in the state capital which I'm sure helps with attendance. The question after this year will be if they can sustain this top 25 play without Thornwell. USC is furiously reinvesting their SEC money into top tier facilities.

The interesting thing I see is that we were 1-2 wins away from getting in the tourney, which appears to be the baseline for success on this website. UGA wasn't good enough to beat all these top teams they faced, but if they faced less of these top teams, 2 more wins and an NCAA berth logically seems likely and that would make Fox awesome or something like that... strictly using the baselines set on this website....

But it's ok we're content with being first round exits every three years

No way a mediocre program can make it with the right coach

I am rooting for the Cocks to win it all because maybe, just maybe, our fan base will see that a program similar to ours (they are worse, in fact) thought big and made a change to get a coach they believed could turn things around. Their fans and athletic department bought in fully and now are reaping the rewards.

We talk about the coach, which is absolutely important. But doesn't it seem easier to sell recruits on playing in front of a venue that can hold 18,000 people instead of one that just holds 10,000?

We have to buy in on all levels. South Carolina and Oregon are just two examples of teams who have done that and are loving the rewards of that.

Just goes to show you we really aren't that far from being a final four team under Mark Fox.

As has been said before, In Columbia there are a number of Corporate boxes and people can attend on a whim - after work or if they get an invite. Also the Colonial Life arena is where all the concerts are held too. Point being - the city can support a larger venue.

Athens just doesn't have the same set up to do this.

However I don't buy into the whole concept that you need a new multimillion dollar area a to attract good players and play good basketball.

Yes, let's build an 18k arena when we can't even fill our 10k stadium to 5k. That makes perfect sense.
