One of these two actually commented that their NFL playbook was smaller than Grantham,s. I'll try and dig that one up.

Dowdle tried to get him to say the scheme was too complicated, mentioned players looking at the sideline.

Swann said no, not complicated, just young guys.

The interview will be posted in the next couple of days, ill post it when avail.

Made dowdle look like a fool. Made alot of people look like fools...

There are other guys that have went on record to say it was a complicated book. Not that I'm disagreeing with your notion that it isn't all on Grantham ultimately he was the fall guy for the miserable secondary play. That being said, the front 7 was damn good this year.

In mimicking another reply I think you are spot on here. I would like to elaborate on several solid points you made with me.

quote:

The problem isn't the complexity of his scheme or playbook, but the complexity in relation to the ability of his players to grasp it. If he has players who can execute everything to perfection, he can be as complex as he wants. But the problem we had is that our players weren't getting it at the level they needed to, and it was negatively affecting their performance on the field.

A.) Complexity & the relationship:
Other programs are provided with analyst/trainers who assist in the teaching of these schemes in their applications when using a varied 3-4 defense. I have often wondered if the UGA athletic department actually held up its end of the bargain and this might be one reason why CTG refused to alter from his design concept.

quote:

Grantham forced his inflated playbook on a group of young and inexperienced kids who couldn't execute it and he refused to make the necessary changes to get the best out of his players

Everything keeps coming back here and yes I agree emphatically but, in the same breath if you are a coach/defensive coordinator and your metrics are proven solid by years of application would it be in your long term interest in throwing them out and basically apply Roberts rules in coaching up a green product?

This is where I think he struggled and made selfish choices in protecting his brand/metrics and placing their importance above the end product/results and thus; alienating the fan base in the process.

If he needed a few extra analyst to get the job done he could have given up part of his lofty salary in order to see his product gold plated. At least if he had made this effort or made a public statement to the effect it would have much better served his position and possibly made a connection with the fans in getting his logistical needs met.

If CTG had studied the works of Deming he might have learned not to pound square pegs into round holes so often...

I am not saying Grantham was just horrible because our defense had its moments and I have said that our defense was going to improve this season with or without Grantham because of more experienced players and our front 7 was pretty dang good. But there were times you could tell our players were confused on where to be on the field and wat the call was. And not just in game 1 or 4, but all the way through the year. The defense is going to improve more because of Pruitt though not Grantham and what he left

ETA: Even more evidence to the fact that Deeprig doesn't believe what he's spewing. He's a contrarian. He's character and he's playing a part. That's it.

The D Showed they are capable. Coaching, the play calling was a problem and needs to be fixed before we head to Gainesville.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree. Gainesville is going to be tough, but I'm even more worried about our game in Locust Grove. That's going to be an arse-bleeder.

This was in quotes:

quote:

"We didn't get off the field ... because we didn't do the things that we've gotta do in that situation, and that's really mostly youth. And the combination of youth not playing the situation right, along with them being good, and making plays, kind of makes it the way it happens. That's why you have to coach resiliency and keep playing. If guys believe in you and your system and keep playing they've got a way to win the game."

"Basically there's only two scenarios that are going to happen there: One, they're going to throw it beyond the sticks on the route, or they're gonna make a catch and run play. Well, jams and re-routes are important, (and) we didn't jam the guys like we needed to. We didn't stay in the zones that we needed to. And we didn't read the eyes of the quarterback. And the guys stepped up and made a good throw. That's on us, and we've got to get better on that, because really in that situation there's nothing else to call."

And your response was

quote:

Fire

That

Mother

fricker

Also think there's some screwy shite with Grantham's scheme and calls. It's college and these guys don't get to practice a fourth of what NFL guys do...maybe we need a solid, aggressive, 4-3 scheme that doesn't require these guys to think so much? And I'm still recovering from that 3rd and 23. The place was rocking, you couldn't hear anything, that was the time to rush 5. Why did we have only 3 linemen in there and everybody dropping back? WTF?

BINGO

Ok it finally loaded. That post was at 1am after the lsu game, surprised i could operate a computer. Playing gotcha on a late night drunk post isnt fair. I will admit i hated grantham during september, but i started paying closer attention as the season went on, front 7 got nasty, turned attention to secondary, lakatos, freshmen.

Eta, its my god given right to get pissed at my dc for not rushing qb on 3rd and long. Grantham, pruitt, smart, insert name.

Missouri and Vandy in October, 4th and fricked against Auburn in November, 3rd and fricked against Nebraska in January.

Nothing changed with our D from September when you posted those things to January when we were still getting burned.

Fine if you don't like scoring D then look at Rushing D and passing D plus total D.

Year Rushing D Passing D Total D
2013 43rd, 59th, 45th
2012 80th, 8th, 32nd
2011 11th, 10th, 5th
2010 56th, 16th, 23rd

UGA should be top 30 every year!
