So it was McG's fault the 2010 class was a joke and the 2011 Dream Team had half the guys thrown off? So the IPF helps with talent evals IYO. Got it.

IPF (facilities in general) and support staff help with recruiting. That's obvious.

I don't see much holding the program back either at this point. The stars are aligned at the moment and CMR assuredly knows this and gets this team in the playoffs . I really can't hope for much more than that.

OSU lost to VT at home by two touchdowns last year, but everything else worked out perfectly for them to get into the playoff.

They were a borderline playoff team going into conference championship weekend, and then they beat Wisconsin 59-0 to send a message that they were too good to be left out. Could you ever see a Richt coached team putting on a show like that in a similar situation? I have 14 seasons of evidence that tells me not a snowball's chance in hell.

Amazingly in a post this long, no one got it.

Here it is.

As long as Richt wins 8 to 10 games a year, the fannies stay in the seats and the boosters keep giving, Richt will retire from UGA at a time of his own choosing. He could even slip to 6 or 7 wins for a while and occasionally take a peak at 11 wins and he'll be fine.

He doesn't have to win another SEC championship (it has been a decade) or a national championship. The admins could care less.

Fannies in the seats, money in the coffers. That is what is important to the admins, nothing else. He is not at risk at all.

Could he do better? Sure, but ride Pruitt while you can Mark as it won't be long before a HC job comes calling. But he is in no job jeopardy in any way, fashion or form.

That's the deal. Accept it. I have.

But I don't see how any UGA fan would dare to argue that we simply don't show up a couple of times a year.

We get that. We simply don't get why so many UGS fans think that EVERY team has a couple of games a year where they don't show up. Name any team in the country that showed up for every game. Some were just fortunate enough to win some of the games they did not show up for.

Further, you missed a big point- we didn't just lose to SCU in 2012 or FU last year. We got utterly destroyed. Did Ole Miss beat Bama by 4 TD's?

No. And I don't like to get beat badly...but THAT doesn't happen every year. USCe barely beat us. Name the number of times that UGS has gotten destroyed. VERY few times.

"We" dominated Arkansas for one half. Luckily, UGA built up a large enough lead in that first half to keep Arky at bay. But Arky passed up and down the field against UGA the second half.

I get it. We didn't do our job unless we beat them by 60 points and kept scoring. We should have kept the foot on the accelerator. Hey, I think it was clear who the better team was. We were down to Chubb and Douglas at RB. MOST of us thought Arky would be a loss because of all the injuries. And you guys are upset we didn't win by 40?

I remember a team that did a similar thing. 2012 verses Alabama. Wisconsin wasn't NEAR the team Alabama was. Had we played the 2014 Wisconsin team for the 2012 SECCG we would have beaten them that bad.

That's not true at all DL. The problem I have with the second half of the Arky game, the entire Carolina game, and most of the UF game is that the UGA defense played like shite. Then, there's the pooch kick against yech to boot. It's always a couple of games each year that makes everyone crazy. And, it's more than just a trend.

I am stunned that we even debate this topic. I thought it common knowledge that we have 1-2 "CMR specials" per yr. I know the perception of our program is such. From ESPN down to daily discussion on the SECrant, where teams hope they get UGA's egg game in 2015. Again, I can't believe that some UGA fans think what we do is normal.

The perception is such because people think UGA is more talented and deeper than UGA actually is at the moment (or for the past five years).

Only the biggest homers think UGA was as talented or deep as the teams competing in the playoffs last year.

Agree 100%. As much as people rag on UGA for not locking down the borders and "losing control" of our players, they sure do think for some reason we're loaded with all 4 and 5* players

So its Damon's fault for not having the IPF in 2010 thats why we had such a shitty class? And in 2011 the fact that the staff knew they had to bring in a job saving class so they didnt do their due diligence. I guess that is because we didnt have the support staff. When in reality its we were taking any one who would commit.

You can come back with another rebuttal and I will do the same or we can just agree to disagree of CMR.

It's absurd to argue that those things wouldn't have helped. More information, more relationships, and better facilities and staffing always help.

When coaches are recruiting, they are selling the program. It's easier to sell a better product than it is to sell a worse one.

ETA: I'm not necessarily pro-Richt. I think he's fine, but fire him if you want. I just don't think that's likely to cause any meaningful positive changes in that act alone.

The IPF thing is pretty simple. No, having or not having an IPF doesn't help our players throw, catch, and tackle better. That is obvious. But recruiting in the SEC is cutthroat, and for the last decade we've typically been about the 3rd or 4th best recruiting team year in year out in the conference.

In this business, ANYTHING you can do for an edge helps. Again, practicing at ramsey one day in March doesn't translate to an extra loss in the fall had we had an IPF. BUT, it just provides ammo for our opponents to say "you really want to go to georgia huh? They don't have an IPF so if it's raining a little, you have to bus all the way and practice in the rec center gym...hell even vanderbilt has one! Do you really think a school liek that is totally committed to winning?"

Granted taht statement is intentionally harsh, but that's what opposing staffs do. They find any weakness they can to tear down other programs while building up their own.

Which is about where we finish at the end of the season every year. Time to step things up

I agree. People always tout that we have "top 10 recruiting classes", which is nice, but it's not going to cut it when 3 or 4 other SEC schools all do as well and a couple are in the top 5.

I mean, both us and bama both have top 10 classes every year, but we have classes in the 7-10 range while thiers are in the top 2. On paper that may not sound like much, but there is a vast talent gap in the 2 programs. Having 4 and 5 star backups at every single position goes a long way. I like Richt, I want him to stay, but what's finally going to push us from pretty good to elite is getting those top 5 classes several years in a row. And fortunately, it looks like we're well on our way.

That's exactly my point.

Ohio State won and went on to win the national title. Georgia wasn't quite good enough (despite Gurley running for 122 and 2 TDs AND getting a blocked FG return for a TD) and went to the Citrus Bowl.

I hate OSU, but when they needed to make a statement to the playoff committee, they did. When UGA needed to win a game to get to the national title, they lost. It sucks but it is what it is.

Also, our 2012 run defense was so bad that a game with 2014 Wisconsin would have been a high scoring shootout even though they couldn't throw a forward pass.

Georgia just isn't as good as OSU right now.
