Richt's comments about Lambert on Monday night:

“He’s going to be fine. We’re going to be able to throw and catch well. We actually threw the ball and caught it extremely well game one. Greyson was 8 out of 12 game one and every single ball he threw had a purpose. Two balls he threw away, two got batted, which you can’t control and the other eight were on the money. We know that Brice (Ramsey) was 2-for-2 in game one. Game two, we had some issues. Obviously, we had a dropped ball early on. We had a situation where he (Greyson Lambert) actually — where he was getting ready to step up and throw, he actually slipped on the turf. I think that’s why the ball went down. He was off balance, so I’ve seen him make that throw many a times. I think it’s just a matter of getting into the flow of a game and into the flow of a season. But if we go based on how we threw it and caught it yesterday, I feel really good. We were really sharp and if we continue to practice that way, my guess is we’ll play a little bit better in that area.”

“I know that playing that position, you don’t just become super proficient overnight. I know he’s played a lot of college ball but he has not played a lot of college ball for Georgia in this league and quite frankly, in this system. So there’s a learning curve and things take time, and you get better as you go. Sometimes you’ve just got to show a little patience and guys will catch on and really play well.”

Richt must disguise himself as a poster on the board as one of the Lambert apologist. Good grief what a bunch of crappy excuses. I don't think Richt is able to face reality...

It just dawned on me last night that GL is afraid to stand tall in the pocket and take a hit. That, and he doesn't seem to check down and holds the ball too long. But, he wont stand in the pocket and deliver the ball knowing he is going to get blasted. That's why the happy feet, that's why he starts scrambling way before there is any actual pressure.

Which makes the next point really disturbing.

With 37 in the box, and Vandy absolutely not respecting the threat of the pass, GL stands in the pocket ONCE...for like a minute and a half...and gets the ball knocked loose from behind...no pocket awareness at all.

The coach can't unconditionally have the QB's back. At some point he must challange the guy and say he has to step up and play better, not make excuses like "his foot slipped". If the QB is has any salt to him he will step up to the challange and perform. This is what championship quality coaches/teams/quarterbacks do.

I agree with you but UGA is "status quo".

And I agree with you which is why we have no championships in 3 decades. Too much tolerance for mediocrity and underperformance in the program.

UGA and donors are happy with 8-9 win seasons, occasional SECC appearance, and staying clean. As long as CMR is the HC, you'll have all three.

He is also afraid to stand in a pocket and not get hit by a ghost. Just awful pocket awareness all around.

There's a reason he's not the QB at Virginia. All you had to do was watch the VA/ND game. That QB for VA was alot better than Lambert. Lambert might be serviceable, but we won't see the "real deal" until next year. Hopefully our RB's/Defense will be enough to take us to the SECCG.

That QB ffor UVA had 5 INTs in 4 games last season and threw for 54%. Not Lambert, but Johns. Lambert beat him out. What you are seeing is most likely UVA having a better offense than last year.

Lambert got beat out in spring ball.

Less surprised than mad that the backup actually throws a nice ball downfield and can step up in a pocket and he is behind uva's backup qb.

The eye test disagrees with that, and so does MItchell if I can read into his words.

I don't think he got "beat out". They both played last year... He just played more. Neither one had great stats last year. I have a feeling he would have had a shot this year as well. They guy who "beat him out " played early last season and wasn't all that good either... If he is all of a sudden better, one has to think why he is putting up better number. Did he improve or is it the whole team improving or both?

It's possible Lambert had mentioned transferring since he knew he would be graduating, and the coaching staff made the change. Not likely, but who knows?

I know Lambert got more snaps than the other guy last year, but the other guy had plenty of chances to win the spot during the season and did not. It's not like a Freshman came in and unseated him during spring ball.

Lambert would not have left if he was the starting UVA QB coming out of spring ball:

In Virginia football coach Mike London’s eyes, junior Matt Johns finished the spring decidedly ahead in the competition to be the Cavaliers’ starting quarterback. “Matt did the best job,” London said. “He was most productive. He was most efficient. It wasn’t close. If it was close, we’d still be talking about going into August camp still fighting for the same position. But Matt clearly did what he was supposed to do.”

This quote tells me that he was basically telling Lambert "don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out". No decent coach would say those comments about an unproven starter from a spring game, not unless he is delusional. Sounds to me like the word was already out about him transferring and was being a bitch.
