I'm totally in favor of trimming the fat and using only the workers you need but it does get out of hand at times. Sometimes politicians push this too far trying to make a statement that they are saving taxpayer dollars and it ends up being detrimental. Before instituting a hiring freeze first make sure you have the personnel in place to get the job done.

Not to mention that much of the illegal population arrive here legally and simply overstay their visas.

The wall is the equivalent of UGA building an IPF; it's not what we actually need but damn if the idea doesn't make a lot of people stiff in their drawers

A wall will prevent thousands from crossing every day. Plus there are several options for detecting underground tunnels.

So we apparently know about thousands of people crossing the border every day but just throw up our hands? Building an impossible-to-pay-for wall that will take decades to construct is going to solve that problem?

Government isn't in the business of employment. Pick another profession

Yes. We even catch a lot of them and have to release them. It's been going in for years. The Border Patrol agents have been prevented from doing their job by Obama and his administration and they were pissed. It's why they endorsed Trump.

Wont take decades and it's not impossible to pay for. And it will fix part of the problem.

The specifications of the wall, the materials required, and the sheer expanse and terrain it would have to cover (nevermind the manual labor it will require) will insure it takes at least 10 years if not 20.

Hell, it might end up being the biggest public works endeavor of all time (talk about the Government not employing people...)

it's not impossible to pay for

In the sense that nothing is impossible? Yeah, ok. But it's far from feasible and there is no way in hell Mexico is going to pay for it

Tyler, you have to think like an executive.

Don't think of the wall as one big thing.

Break it up into 50 pieces.

Each of the 50 pieces has 3 or 4 facets.

Each facet has about 20 things that need to be done.

Assign each piece to a VP.

Give each VP 3 or 4 directors over each facet.

Give each director a few managers and coordinators to take care of the things that need to be done to accomplish the given facet.

Don't think of it like a "project", think of it like a "program".

You could have it done in 5 years, if you had the funding.

My bad. It will stop thousands every month. That adds up. People can walk or drive across the border easily so they do. A wall will make it very difficult to cross for the average person.

If I have time at work tomorrow, I can put together a visio org chart of how I'd organize it .. throw in a lean six sigma black belt too.

Well we could solve a whole lot of problems if we had the funding.

Essentially what you're suggesting, though, is that we assemble a massive Wall bureaucracy consisting of 200+ people holding VP or Director roles that oversee countless others. Unless you're suggesting some private Wall Co.

If you want to build something that at least works within reasonable budget constraints, you don't build one big wall. Rather, you build portions here and there that divert foot traffic through manageable quadrants that are monitored by beefed up border patrols. The biggest problem to date has been the mountainous terrain that patrols can't adequately cover. A wall couldn't be easily built over that terrain but if you're going to spend the money, may as well make it count.

The wall is 40 years overdue. Hell... even the Clintons publicly stated that they wanted the wall.

Back then... the stupid arse objection was to build the wall first or come up with public policies to deal with the illegals already here. Or to first come up with public policies first and then build the wall. The end result like most of politics is that neither got done.

The wall to the government is like steroids to baseball. Everybody knows there is a problem. But nobody has the stones to fix it. I say it is about damn time.

It's amazing to see how much a guy who is used to working for a living is getting done vs a bunch of bill by the hour lawyers turned career politicians.

He's running circles around everyone.

Congress holds the purse strings. He still is going to have to find a way to make nice.

The inability to get anything accomplished through congress is why Carter was the worst president ever.

That said... Trump is the greatest bargainer. If anyone is going to get things through, it is most likely him.

People forget this.... Bill Clinton stood in front of congress at a state of the union I believe, and said it is time to build a wall, and got bipartisan standing ovation.

Trumps says it... he's crazy, xenophobic, racist, senile, impractical.
