You ride a bus to Atlanta for your job, tell me about that. What is your job, what benefits do you get for riding a bus instead of driving a car?

Well, I drive 25 miles to where I catch the bus. It takes me the other 35 miles into the ATL. So it's a 60 mile gap between me and the job and I drive a Jeep. You can do the math on the gas expense if I were to drive all the way, plus monthly parking fees (17 miles/gal).

The bus pass for the month runs me $118. I manage a department at GSU and it banks enough for me plus gives me nice government benefits to boot. So yeah, it's worth it. That said, I'm actively seeking something back here around Athens. Problem around here is that no one is paying worth a damn. I'm gonna have to take a cut to come back, but most jobs around Athens requiring a degree are paying 30k or less. Can't live on that nickel.

Sucks.

You talking about the Braselton area bus stop commuter thingy or something else? I also drive from Athens to ATL inside the perimeter every day. I broke down two years ago and got a little toyo with 41 mpg and it hurts alot less.

ETA- I can do what I do in Athens for literally half the pay of what they pay me in ATL, it makes the drive worth it. If my wife weren't in Vet School here right now, we'd move closer in.

I think you're talking about the Hamilton Mill stop. I actually hit the one in Dacula. It's the same operation, same buses, though. I had a car with better mileage, but traded it for the Jeep figuring I'd get back to Athens sooner or later. The drive was still more than I'd do every day. Traffic is terrible....unless you can ride in the HOV/HOT lanes, it's gut-wrenching. I also have to go literally dead center of the perimeter circle....Grady Hospital area.

The problem is that it only works til you hit spaghetti junction, then you have to be a carpool or drive a fart-powered car to stay in that lane.

I'm off at Clairmont, before the downtown clusterfrick. 285 to clairmont is smooth sailing. The peach pass gets me from 316 to Jimmy.

I doubt this thread is 6 pages about smoking but I'm almost done with day 3 smokeless.

But it's tough in the stadium. Wait it out or throw in a dip when we do something stupid and you get stressed.

Good work!

First two weeks are worst...it gets better after 30 days and after 90 days you're home free.

I smoked for 20 yrs and quitting was hard as hell. I'm 18 months smoke free. Thank God I didnt have to give up drinking.

Yeah, that ain't so bad. I could throw a rock at Turner Field. It's a bitch. I'm also the very last stop for the bus in the morning and the very first leaving (meaning I have to sit through every other herky-jerky stop before we hit I-85).

Did I mention I suffer from pretty serve motion sickness when I'm not the one driving?

You must really love that jeep. I don't love anything that much except my wife. I wouldn't put myself through that much bullshite except for her. You are doing it for a jeep, that's your prerogative.

You could say that, I guess. Don't love it more than the fam, but I had always wanted one and couldn't help that when a good deal fell in my lap that I worked 60 miles away. That said, the 25 mile drive part of my commute is SO much more enjoyable than it was in my Asian-auto.

Because you are pushing the issue, here is the thread, best ribs in Athens, and slaw you'd eat out of your dead grandmother's count.

I worked across the street from the Mount Pleasant Sticky Fingers for 2 years and ate lunch there almost every day.

That's why I called it "Salt Life BBQ"

Do you want to challenge me to a bbq contest or do you just want to talk shite?

Okay.

I'll pull through the drive-thru...... and pick up a sack of McRib's.

And.... still beat Arby's sauced borax riblets.

Bring it.
