I'm admittedly open minded about recruiting. I assume coaches know the risks, and the process, and while I like for people to stay in state, I don't get mad when they decide to go somewhere else. The kids are 17- 18, and it's not my life. Ultimately, it's his decision, and given the mean spirited responses, I probably would have waited as long as I could to avoid mean people saying ugly things to me in my home state.

True. Too many people live their own lives around the decisions of 17-18 year old kids every year. To be fair, it's speculation to guess how people would have reacted had he committed in his junior year and settled it then. I wouldn't doubt that the same crazies would react any different. We'll never know, thank goodness.

depends on your criteria, no one said Alabama wasn't a great program or that Saban wasn't a great coach, but that doesn't mean LSU isn't also a great program that she thinks is better. Saying Alabama is the #1 program is just hype, it can change in an instant. By the time Collins graduates LSU could have won 2 crystal football since Bama's last one.

quote:

Besides the fact that Bama has been belching first round picks in recent years

So has LSU. Since Saban took over at Alabama, both have had 7 1st round picks. Bama will likely have more this year, that will probably reverse for the 2013 draft.

Nick Saban is the most revered disciplinarian in organized sport today, possibly of all time. She should be glad that her son has chosen to play for such a man of character.

Being a the greatest disciplinarian of all time is not the most important thing. Sounds like code for a hard arse. That's not a bad thing necessarily mind you, but not everyone needs the same level or type of discipline. As for his character, she doesn't sound to impressed and feels he disrespected her. No amount of acolades will change her assesment based on personal dealings.

A side note, sounds like you are so far up Saban's arse you can tell us what he had for lunch

Saying Alabama is the number one program in the land is not hype, it's fact. Besides that, my whole post was in response to an LSU fan saying he picked the 'wrong school.' He's a defensive back going to play for Nick Saban at the peak of his career for a team that blew out LSU in the biggest game in school history a couple weeks ago and at an institution more highly rated academically than LSU as well. LSU is absolutely an elite program, but it is insane to say he picked the 'wrong school.' Plus, Collins doesn't want to go play for LSU, which is the most important aspect of his decision in the first place. He wants to play for the greatest disciplinarian in sports. Sounds like he made a pretty good decision in my opinion.

Could be the dude didn't to announce his preference because he wanted to avoid the crazies in the state, and the crazies in his family by telling folks it wasn't LSU.....

I don't know, but I hated like hell to have my mom on my arse 24-7 when I was a teenager. I'd do whatever I could to avoid her wrath.

I hope that at the very least, my Mom would support me publically even if she disagreed with the choices I made for my life. I know I havent' always made the decisions my parents wanted me to make over the years, but I damn well know they would show a united front publically even if they disagreed. All parents are different though.

It's difficult to consider seriously everything you state when you contradict yourself in the first sentence.

Honestly.....LC would have been MUCH better off saying 2 years ago that LSU was not in it (if he was all Bama)

Nothing like he got stringing out the state school.......and then coming out and saying they were never in it.

And telling Mom he was going to LSU to get her to Fla....

And our coaches he was coming....

etc, etc

Good luck to him and he's Tiger Bait now!

You and I have different understandings of what constitutes a contradiction.

Of course that could be the case. I even stated that I doubt the crazies would have reacted any differently if he had announced early. I'm not really certain of the point.

I was just articulating one viewpoint of the situation and why some people reacted the way they did.

I could so go there about his...ummm.....character.....and......I just won't do it

Let's just say......some close to him would disagree with you.

You claimed for a fact that Alabama is the #1 program in the country. Unless you are going by one specific piece of evidence or statistic (end of the season ranking, perhaps), then that statement can only be an opinion.

How is that a different understanding?

Alabama has won 2 of the last 3 crystal balls, has the best coach/disciplinarian in the game, and continues to recruit at the highest level of any team in the country. Doesn't matter how you look at it, Bama is running this shite. Every class that Nick Saban has ever recruited in the SEC has won a national championship. But please, continue ignoring these facts and arguing semantics.

When you break it all down, all of it is a bunch of opinions. However, Alabama is on a run that equals what Southern Cal accomplished from 2002-2008 (minus the easy conference titles).

Generally, resorting to a personal attack is a sign that you have nothing of substance to offer. The facts speak for themselves, deal with it.

You need an education in facts and opinions.

This:
quote:

Alabama has won 2 of the last 3 crystal balls

is a fact.

This:
quote:

has the best coach/disciplinarian in the game

is an opinion.

See the difference? One is beyond doubt. The other is arguable. Usually, one has to state facts to help prove their opinion; in contrast, facts speak for themselves.

I'm not
quote:

ignoring these facts and arguing semantics.
Rather, you are proving yourself quite the moron. The statement
quote:

Bama is running this shite.
proves that point as fact.

Following Capstone. He seems to understand the difference.

Again, continue ignoring the substance of my posts to argue semantics. My point is simple: Collins did not pick the wrong school. Alabama is inarguably the number one program in the country. Call it an opinion, call it a fact. Anyone who continues to argue otherwise or argue that Collins picked the 'wrong school' has an acute case of extreme butthurt. That is all.
