To all the people claiming that Saban gets by only on getting better players, why the hell wouldn't he try to get the best? It is the most important part of his job. Recruiting is the lifeblood of a program. I would want a coach fired who didn't try to get the best players out there.

You don't get the point. Everyone would love to sign all 5 star players if they could

Saban has shown that on a more level playing field in terms of what he has to work with, he can be outcoached. He knows what he does well, which is recruiting, and he focuses that. Its evidenced by his choice in staff, he picks recruiters over guys that are considered better coaches.

He's also shown that he can out coach coaches who have superior talent. See Tennessee in 2007, Georgia and Clemson in 2008, and Florida in 2009 for examples.

Saban is just a man at the end of the day, no more, no less. He is not infallible and can make mistakes like every other coach out there. Bear Bryant made many mistakes while he was dominating college football in the 60s and 70s. Does that make either man any less of a coach? No.

And at the end of the day, he still has 4 national championships and will easily be ranked as the top coach from the BCS era.

Agreed. Hell, I've seen a couple times where I was really impressed with a Les Miles gameplan. As much hell as people give that man, hes fun to have in the conference

Point was, he realizes he isn't some master planner that is 2 steps ahead of everyone, and he realizes that his strength is recruiting, so he focuses on doing that really well. And its worked out so far.

I honestly don't see how AU wouldn't be the favorite.

Because they should have lost 4 games last year. Everyone knows about UGA and Bama games. A&M game they horse collar JFF (not called) and it would have been 1st and 10 from the 6 with about a minute left. I like JFFs chances to score

Not my pick.
I'm going with LSU first .

Bama second.

Toss-up for third between Texas A&M and Auburn.

Then Ole miss

Then Arkansas

Lastly ... MSU

If Your life and the life of your family was at stake, and you had to pick the 2014 SEC champion to survive, every poster on this forum would choose Alabama..and that's the truth.....admit or not! ....now let's see who's an idiot or a liar.

Everybody knows Saban does not lose games when he is pissed. See the Oklahoma game for example.

Saban pissed, SEC fricked

I think it's a footrace again between LSU and Bama. I probably give the nod to LSU if it comes down to the game in Death Valley.

I think State sneaks into the mix for some reason.

They have a seasoned qb with no much else around him. The SEC West is way too tough to navigate through with seasoned qb and a legit DE

Even if you believe Auburn should have lost 4 games last year, a lot of teams they should have lost to will be worse this year. Take A&M for example. Everybody knows they would have been lucky to win more than two games last year without Johnny Douchebag. That explains why they fought to keep him eligible even after he clearly accepted money from those autograph brokers

Because its the easy, safe answer for anybody who hasnt done his homework but has an article deadline.

Frankly, I think Auburn is better than Alabama this year. 2015 I think Bama is back in the saddle.
