Have you seen the recruiting class rankings and NFL drafts the last few years?
Alabama has more NFL talent on their roster than any team in the SEC. That alone makes them a smart pick.
I will say this year I think the race is completely wide open and can see 4-5 teams having a shot.

Even though I know what this is I'll answer seriously.
I don't think they are. Of course they're in the running because of talent but from what I've heard AU is the favorite by a small margin. AU was a really good team by the end of last season and with all they return one would think they'll be even better this year.

AU has had one back to back 10+ win seasons, 88 & 89. Given their schedule, that will likely continue.

.....and bama lost to La-Mo, at home, in 2007. That was saban's Pearl Harbor. The past is the past. You can continue to quote that stat beer, 3oflast5, or whatever you use for your next alter. That has zero bearing on this year and this staff.

Right now you would have to favor Auburn because of quarterback play. However,if Alabama comes up with anything resembling decent quarterback play Bama has more horses than anyone else in the SEC West.
Auburn will miss Mason. A lot. That young man earned my respect and I think he might do better in the NFL than many there think. He was the key to the AU run game and right now I don't see another Tre Mason over there. Plus that defense just gives up too many yards.
A&M was gutted offensively. Plus they have a lot to prove to show anyone they have a defense.
LSU lost a LOT. They don't have a QB, lost 2 NFL receivers and a hell of a RB in Hill. Right now they don't have receivers in that class nor a Hill on the roster.
Ole Miss and MSU could be dangerous, on a given night either could put a hurt on just about anyone.
Arkansas can run it, but they need more time to get some depth. No real pass game.
