Kiffin to Bama is a great fit. He's one hell of coordinator, terrible head coach though.

Yeah, I've never watched his O's. But you keep sucking his dick just because saban hired him. I am sure you were proclaiming kiffin a genius 6 months ago.

Bama is gonna slide.....downward this year. In some delusional minds a # 1 recruiting class is equal to NC. Why play the games then?

Don't fret Bama/LSU...you both will be back in 2 yrs, maybe in 2015, but plan 2016.

There is wayyyy too much butt hurt in this forum..hence my low post count and inconsistent lurking. I like how the OP asks a question..and then when given opinions to try to answer his question there's no recognition of any possibly valid points. It's even worse than that there's not even an "I disagree because (insert answer here)". Instantly it turns into OMG YOU DONT AGREE WITH ME and insta-bashing/tantrum.

Got it we each love our teams and will be a little biased, but i mean c'mon at least give teams credit where its due.

Lets try this...
Bama has probably been the most consistent team in the past 5-6 years. I actually have helped analyze the econometrics models las vegas odds makers use and their variables they use to help one of the phd students here (UA) for his dissertation. These spreads are made by very and i mean VERY smart people mainly because the companies have the money to get the best and also because their business relies heavily on being as accurate as they can.

That being said, no numbers are not perfect and yes there are exceptions and upsets etc, but at the end of the day using a few principles (ex. law of large numbers) and normalize everything out and the numbers are a decent predictor.

I think the media honestly just follows the the odds and spreads because its an easy assumption. No i'm not saying that because of spreads and odds that bama IS the best, but im saying if you didnt know anything about college football and HAD to bet on one team to make it to the NCG the data would suggest best chance would be bama.

Finally, all this being said i still think odds have a high standard deviation. they are mainly a general rule but can sway greatly. This is why people still win when betting (especially during upsets). Now obviously you can correct for this but then the spreads would be ridiculous and therefore noone would bet (ex. a team would have to beat bama by 35 points or something similar).

Anyways...just a nerdy approach to a possible reason why they picked bama in that article. I tried to generalize and put everything in layman's terms as best as i could sorry if something seems a little inaccurate its hard for me to exactly say what i want to without me busting out a bunch of nerd speak. Anyways hope this helps and have a great Sunday guys :)

Look at how Saban has been recruiting since 2011. He has four straight #1 recruiting classes.

Alabama is the most talented team in the country and anyone who would pick Auburn over Alabama based on the game last year is a lazy journalist.

Two words.....lane kiffin. He doesn't know that position exists.

As someone who has watched film from when Kiffin was the OC at USC and the head coach at Tennessee, I can safely say that this is bullshite. Kiffin used a tight end pass play to put Tennessee into position to beat Alabama with a last second field goal in 2009.

Purely based on Schedule. Tenn and UF is equivalent to Vandy and Kentucky these days. Hopefully these days are numbered and they both return to their former self this season. Auburn has to play UGA and USC. That alone gives Bama the edge. However, most media members are still not sold on Malzahn and suspect the game will get slowed down by the refs. Not to mention - the ESPN talking heads believe Auburn's offense is illegal and unfair for passing the ball when they look like they are going to run. Personally - I don't care - I'm looking forward to watching the best offense AU has ever fielded. It will be a very fun season.

To all the people claiming that Saban gets by only on getting better players, why the hell wouldn't he try to get the best? It is the most important part of his job. Recruiting is the lifeblood of a program. I would want a coach fired who didn't try to get the best players out there.
