Anyone citing a US News and World reports ranking list as some sort of credible data point has no clue to begin with.

Why? You make it sound like its ranking are that much different than other university rankings.

Sorry, but LSU's School of Veterinary Medicine is world renowned. It is widely known as one of the best in the United States.
Of course, it depends on the pollster, publication, association, etc. doing the "rankings."

And Florida Georgia auburn and a&m are just as world renowned and widely known as the best in the United States. And there is only one ranking service for vets I believe and lsu is behind those four. Like I said they are not waaaaaaay ahead as you state. But on par or behind several institutions.

Yeah I agree. I believe LSU's Vet school is good but not world-renowned. I knew Auburn & A&M had good vet schools

LSU's business, engineering, & architecture programs are way better than our veterinary science programs

Dean's Welcome

This School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) was founded in 1968 with a legislative resolution for the purpose of educating future veterinarians. We have done that successfully since the first incoming class in 1973, and we have continued to enhance our mission including ground-breaking biomedical research, and superior service for the varied publics we serve. However, as I continue to say, it is our people—our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends—who make us great.

The School is extremely proud of our students who are among the best of students nationally. Our faculty are extremely committed to providing a top-tier learning environment and preparing our graduates for academic and professional success. This is clearly reflected in the students’ performance: a 96% graduation rate and a 98% pass rate on the national licensing examination, highly sought after by the veterinary practice community, and highly competitive for post graduate clinical training programs, ranking 5th nationally. Indeed our graduates are a testament to the dedication of our faculty and staff and the high priority we set for excellence in academics, research, and service.

Guided by strategic planning, the School has made a commitment over the last 10 years to expand its research enterprise and is currently the center of biomedical research on the LSU campus. Vigorous recruitment efforts have enabled the appointment of a nationally recognized faculty that competes very successfully for extramural funds in areas including infectious disease, vector biology, molecular medicine, and equine health studies. With annual research expenditures of $8.0 million and a total extramural funding portfolio approaching $47.0 million, the SVM ranks third among our regional peers with funding from the National Institutes of Health. Additionally, two of our three departments – Pathobiological Sciences and Comparative Biomedical Sciences are consistently listed in the top 10 departments within the University based on research expenditures. Our research programs have been vital to the growth and quality of our graduate programs and provide a unique summer training experience for interested professional students.

Cool. I do know our new dean who begins in September was the associate dean of research & graduate education at Cornell which is regarded as the best vet school. Hopefully he continues to make improvements for LSU

Miss State, Tennessee, and Missou vet schools are all listed on the same page as the first four. They're all in the top 25 and not many spots separates any of them.

I meant Petroleum Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Coastal Conservation Studies and Veterinary Medicine collectively - not just Veterinary Medicine.
Of course all of these curricula plus Hurricane Engineering (prototype in U.S.) are pretty much specialties in Louisiana.

MSU has had one of the top vet schools in the country for decades. Our aerospace engineering program has made some inovative achievements in aerodynamics and airfoil design over the years. Some of those achievements are being applied in aviation today. Firms from all over the world have come to MSU for testing and research in that field. Our school of architecture is nationally ranked. State also has several other engineering programs that are absolutely top notch.

I'm sorry but I've never heard that. DesignIntelligence is usually one of the most credible architecture ranking services

eta: Not that there's much a difference in spot 1 &10

MSU architects have done really well over the years. Other programs have grown larger, but we are still on the list, somewhere. If it weren't for Asian students most programs would close.
