I do.
It took awhile, though. A good long while.
(I inadvertently/mistakenly call them Oilers more times than I refer to em as Texans)
But my fandom for the Texans isn't in the same universe as my feelings for the Ags.
As you referenced earlier, the Bud Adams nightmare likely has much to do w that.

Which goes back to my point. The Southeast is traditionally a college sports region. Hell, for years everyone in this part of the country cheered for the Braves because that was the only MLB team. Pretty much still is.

I don't disagree w your premise (hell, I'm as collegiately wired as they come); just repeating that b/c the IB is legendary to you, doesn't make it so to the population at large.

Oh, I agree. My original point (somewhere in this thread :lol) was that rivalries involving same or bordering states are more intense than rivalries of teams from opposite coasts/different regions. But yeah, being pro or college really shouldn't be an argument. But hey, I'll go with what Tbird said. Rivalries are rivalries. I personally have just never been in a situation where I hated a team that was 1,000 miles away, as much as I hate Tennessee or Auburn.

It's easily one of the top 5-10. And as much as It completely defines the state if Alabama, and as much as ESPN tries to force feed it on the rest of the CFB world, I'm just not so sure how it really means that much to everyone outside those 2 schools. This year, yeah , clearly the biggest game so far. But not last year or the year before. ARMY-NAVY biggest rivalry by far and away, as it should be. But I think that most without ties to the schools think it's significant , but no more than the ones they hold as Important. If you look at certain games/ rivalries , there are ones that will always be on CBS, the priet game, IB, WLOCP, DSOR, TSIO, LSU-BAMA, this will never change( unless the conf does away with perm cross of course) but you get my point. The thing is , the IB, naturally is a meaningful yearly part of AU/UA life , but why is it important the it must be the biggest Rivaly , just as long as it means something to you should be enough, why do you care if someone in Kallamazoo MI thinks it's big, cause they probably don't.

For a little perspective, I'm from Minnesota and the Vikings and Packers are fierce rivals. This is for to the teams proximity and their history of being in the same division. I've been to Viking-Packer games, but it doesn't even remotely compare to AU-UA.
I'd personally put it #1 in all of sports because of how it divides the state and even families. Talk of the two teams literally goes on 365 days a year.
I'd put Duke-Carolina #2 and Yankees-Red Sox #3.

That's not really unique to the Iron Bowl, though.
The Texas A&M/texas rivalry is literally on hold because of the strife between the schools (something AU/Bama had happen, as well), and it divides families all over the state.
Michigan/ohio is HUGE. I don't think folks in the southeast appreciate that.
shite, even the Border War (kansas/Mizzou) is bitter as hell.

I was thinking in terms of Celtics-Lakers or some of the NFL rivalries. They are eliminated because they aren't talked about all year. Other rivalries are eliminated because the teams aren't really close in distance.

I was thinking in terms of Celtics-Lakers or some of the NFL rivalries. They are eliminated because they aren't talked about all year

Army-Navy? Please no. I'm a huge college football fan and the game doesn't interest me in the least. Ask any average fan and they'd say the same thing. Just check the TV ratings for the Iron Bowl and the Army-Navy game.
