Why would I lie?
And I don't troll.
We just differ in our thoughts on this subject, that's all.

Lakers vs Celtics was a great rivalry for a period of the 80s but frickin A how hostile can rivals that are on other ends of the country from each other and the respective fanbases never have any interaction together be? I'd put Yankees/Red Sox and Ohio State/Michigan and probably UNC/Duke basketball (because of proximity and dominant history of both programs) ahead of it as far as American rivalries. Florida/FSU is up there as well. Bama/Auburn is way up the list from an intensity standpoint.

Why does that criteria make any difference? Simple fact is that it impacts very few people. The large majority of American sports fans aren't avid NBA fans, and the large majority of NBA fans don't care about Boston/LA.

This rivalry, like a lot of rivalries and a lot of programs/teams, will never draw the interest it once did. Considering it has been a couple of decades since this rivalry truly garnered national attention, I can't put it up too highly.

Auburn-Alabama is up there for different reasons, primarily the impact on the sport, on the South, and the way it dominates life in Alabama. Very few pro rivalries have any claim like that, so hence I'm looking at it from a national interest perspective.

UNC-Duke, Yankees-Sox, Mich-OSU can hang. But to be honest I don't think any NBA or NFL rivalry is in the same league as these, at least indefinitely.

That's what I mean by local though. Those guys go to work with each other. Plus CFB is actually 24/7/365 in the papers and on radio.

Cool, but it still a rivalry that exists from playing eachother in Championships, not from being close, or playing eachother every year in the regular season. It's the two most popular fan bases in each respective conference who have met at the highest level in the midst of dynasties in multiple decades. I think the Lakers/Celtics rivalry is greater, but that wasn't your question, sweetheart.

Well one of my good friends and old fraternity brothers at Alabama grew up a huge Celtics fan and he never says anything about the Lakers.

watching the ESPN 30 30 piece on the Iron Bowl right now....

after seeing Harvey Updyke, I think I can safely say that it definitely has the lowest IQ of any rivalry....

which is why the 2010 nba finals was the highest watched NBA finals series in years. 28.2 million people watched game 7 in 2010. how many do you think watched the iron bowl this past week>

auburn/bama is not very high on the national interest perspective. it was this year, but as a whole since college football is a very regional sport, unless its OSU/UM it isnt going to be nationally relevant

This is just stupid and false.

You're saying it's been a couple decades since the Lakers/Celtics garnered national interest?

If Auburn and Alabama were both unranked, the Iron Bowl has zero national relevance.

Absolutely it's relevant to Bama & Auburn fans--as well it should be.
But I'm not sure why some of em are hellbent to convince everyone else that theirs is the "greatest rivalry in sports."
It's all relative (no pun intended).
Many in-state rivalries exist; and to fans of those schools, those respective rivalries are a big deal.
