Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals,
it would have been the least watched game of the entire series

I used to think that ut/tamu was a better and more entertaining rivalry until little step-bro fouled it all up.

Good think we had the rivalry, otherwise the 2010 Finals wouldn't have drawn ratings, right? Oh.

I forgot about that time California and Massachusetts got into a legislative dispute over basketball.

What does a legislative dispute have to do with national relevance? It might speak to how relevant it is in Alabama, but not nationally. The entire population of the whole state of Alabama is one third of the Greater LA metro area. One fricking third.

TAMU ruined that rivalry, I agree, but it was a good one while it lasted.

LOL at you conflating "greatest rivalry" with "casual sports viewing."

great rivalry but not on yankees/sox, lakers/celtics, real madrid/barcelona level

I really think that college rivalries are a lot more intense than pro rivalries. Go to a pro-game, and its almost nothing but the home team. On a good rivalry game in college, I think at least a third of the crowd should be from the opposing team. That's what makes college football so special really.

Seriously, are you slow? I don't want to offend, but I don't want to keep at it with someone that has a legitimate issue.

National interest doesn't define relevancy nor greatest rivalry. It is used primarily in pro rivalries because we have nothing else. Quite simply, pro rivalries don't invoke the same passion on the same scale, as a general rule. Thus, we're looking toward the overall impact on the country in lieu of a really huge, concentrated impact.

Pro rivalries invoke plenty of passion. How old are you? Where are you from? Just because Harvey Updyke exists, it doesn't mean other sports lack passion. Plenty of people lose their shite over the Cowboys. Just because you are ignorant to others passion, you can't use this as a defense.

Not a coincidence. Of course, it doesn't do anything for your absurd premise either.

which is what? that a rivalry that only exists because the two teams play each other in the nba finals so fricking much is better than a rivalry that most of the country really doesnt care about?

only rivalry that has an argument for being ahead of Bama/Auburn is Real Madrid/Barcelona. Yankees/Sox? Lakers/Celtics? GTFO here. Those teams aren't obsessed with each other 365 days a year like Bama/Auburn are. UNC/Duke is a better rivalry than Yankees/Sox and Lakers/Celtics

Agreed. American pro-rivalries are absolute bitches in comparison to college and especially European football rivalries. Those fans really don't frick around, and would be comfortable putting some of those ahead of the Iron Bowl. As far as any other American pro-sport rivalry, it isn't even close. Hell, I'd put the Egg Bowl as a more intense rivalry than just about every pro team rivalry.

I love college football more than anything else, and I think because of people's undying love for their school, and the culture that college towns have on their city and the surround area and the state as a whole, you see extreme passion, but there are plenty of crazy asses that are just in to pro sports. As a graduate you live the rivalry in many facets that exist beyond the field, but you're insane if you don't think the energy at a Packers/Bears game or a Packers/Vikings game isn't intense as shite.

Pro rivalries are fun. And in other regions, they do generate intensity closer to the level of college rivalries. But in general, I think something else is necessary, like personalities (Boston- LA in the 80s) or proximity/regional impact (NY-Boston).

Point is that in Alabama, which is an admittedly low-importance state in which I do not reside, the rivalry consumes the state. All of it. Not just in what people talk about, it has impact on legislative activities, elections, how things are funded, etc. It is insane. Something extra is present in all of the rivalries I perceive to be "great." I don't think Boston - LA has that anymore.

This is something you keep saying, then you repeatedly fail to address anything I'm saying. I'll take it, I just question whether you're entirely out of your depth in discussions involving any level of analysis (you are).
