Song? Yea, I feel one coming on....
Way down South at Ole Miss, tradition plays a part
Southern born by fate, BUT REBEL from the heart...
Though some have tried to change it
In the guise of being fair
A True Rebel knows that Ole Miss
will never be a BLACK BEAR!
You can ban him from the stadium
But as long as there's a Grove
Col. Reb will be welcomed there with respect and LOVE

it seems like Ole miss would have stayed away from the word 'black' given the whole reason for the change of mascot was over the perception of racism with the old mascot however, i like the black bear mascot in general. Clemson actually had a black bear on campus last week
I am still a tad bit surprised the bear won. In all honesty, the term bear is never used. That is just the mascot. It should be referenced about as much as people reference elephants for Bama.
If they could revote today, the Landshark would win.

We weren't given much of a choice. I hate Dan Jones.

That's the irony about the whole thing. The "black" part was very much intended to be about race. It was the "in your face" moment for the PC crowd to the perceived racist students.

The only thing Tuberville did that was classless in seeking more money was to lie about it to his players. That shows no character ( boo hoo), but that is rampant in football.
Ole Miss was on probation for part of his reign as head coach, and these kids worked hard for Tuberville who told them he would be there for the long haul. He told them he was not going to Auburn then absconded before the scoreboard lights went out in Oxford in his last game. Didn't even say good bye.... ( boo hoo) good riddance at that point.
A microphone was left on after Tubb's last Egg Bowl thrashing by MSU, and he was heard saying to all the coaches, "let's get the hell out of here." They boarded and airplane and never came back.
OM was facing a bowl game with no coach. The players were a bit disillusioned, but good kids who prevailed in spite of Tubbs. Regardless of the fact that anyone would go for more money, Tuberville sneaked out of town like a slimeball. He lied to his players...Pretty common place this lying thing today.
However, Ole Miss won its bowl game and pretty much went on to bigger and better. OM beat Auburn at Auburn with some of his former players....SWEEET!!!! He even tried to be friendly with his former players in warmups. They were much LESS than polite.
Didn't win the NC at Auburn. Promoted to Who the heck is TEXAS TECH ( how the mighty fall)...don't know where he is now. If he comes to Oxford, a pine box might be STILL be waiting! Nah! Not worth the effort.
He burned a bridge in Oxford and crashed that Gambler's Riverboat ...BIG TIME, but to be honest, he is not really thought about that much anymore.
I'll give him credit for bringing a little life back to the program. He was personable as long as you remembered it was mostly BS. His call in shows were fun. His riverboat gambler style of play was gutsy and fortunately worked a lot of the time. Football was fun again for a while.
His money mentor big bank man Bobby Lowder met with some bad luck too. He is no longer the 'money talks" at Auburn, is he? Just goes to show you that fame and fortune can be fickle and fleeting.
Tubbs unceremoniously lost his glitter at Auburn, too, and had to move on. How the mighty fall.

Do many people still use that "Battle M" replacement flag that he pushed so much, or was that as successful as his campaign to designate Jordan-Hare Stadium as "The Jungle"?

Our shorthand mascot name is the Louisiana Black.
Thanks, Dan Jones.

They're the Rebels. No one is forced to enroll there.

Agreed. There are plenty of feeder programs for those kids who didn't get in to Texas A&M University or University of Texas - Austin; it isn't hard to matriculate. But unfortunately, a lot of those kids see the huge scholarships Mississippi is throwing towards the Republic of Texas's dumbest applicants and they can't say no.
Sad, imo.

It's funny you think that there can only be one line of thinking behind every action. Since you, obviously, know exactly why I posted that....do you care to share my reason with the rest of us?
Or are you incapable of understanding that people can have different viewpoints on subjects even if the end result is the same?
I never said that I find Col. Reb to be offensive. but continue on with your weak attempt at race-baiting...

"Eat shite and die in a fire" are not exactly terms of endearment.

Did I ever say that they were?
Don't skirt around the question. Why did I post that? What was the actual reasoning behind it?
It's ok....if you don't want to answer the question...all you have to do is post "sorry...I really have no fricking clue what I'm talking about."

You would like to get past all of that. However, Col Reb simply was an embodiment of the term "Rebel" and you know that as well as I do.

I'm so glad you think you know the reason why I don't like Col. Rebel.
turns out I don't like Col. Rebel because he looks stupid as shite.
I don't like Miss Dixie because that poster tends to either make shite up or regurgitate whatever dumb shite someone else made up.
