I think Nutt is an above-average coach, but probably only average in the SEC. And below average in the SECW. He's a good coach, but still maybe 5th or 6th best in this division. That's not an indictment of the man, but it is the problem he faces.

I agree. I remember when Tubb came back to Oxford one year. It was right after the SEZ and before we built the IPF. I remember looking over to our new T&F complex and watching Tubby walking around it with some coaches and security.

That's one of the main things he kept pushing for and PB&Jackass kept refusing to do. I vividly remember him just stopping, putting his hands on his hips, and then throwing his hands up in disgust......like "WTF? I fricking hate you people."

I certainly don't feel that HDN is a "bad" coach. He is a great motivator that definitely knows how to run the football.

The reason I didn't like him was partly because of his overall lack of aggression on the field, as well as his shady character (always making excuses for losses, placing blame directly on players and assistants, etc.).

I think he just lacks balls in general. Yet he still fields a dangerous team.

This. I think he can out coach Miles, OM can out talent MSU and Arky every other year, but only by the grace of God will Nutt beat Auburn and Bama in the same year. The best we can hope for with Nutt is going 3-2 in the West, which isnt below our standards

The west will have its turn over eventually and the power will even out to the east. Saban will retire, Gus & Mullen will leave, and Miles will stay.

This.

Between 2008 and 2009 when we had the most talent in decades, we averaged going 2-3 against the West.

4-1 in 2008 and 2-3 in 2009

Bottom Line: OM athletics, football in particular, will be held back as long as Pete Boone and The GOB network are running things in the UMAA.

He turned down LSU before Miles.

Nope. Didn't get an offer from all the reports I saw at the time. He was interested but withdrew his name from consideration (but I am not at all sure that he ever was actually under serious consideration). I got the impression that when it became apparent to him that he was not going to get an offer, he publicly withdrew his name.

Saban reportedly recommended that LSU hire him when Saban left (which was a puzzlement to me at the time), but, I am pleased that LSU did not hire him. He was an improvement for Ole Miss, but he would not have been a good fit at LSU.
