Serious Question.

When Nutt came to Ole Miss and took and team that went 3-9 (0-8) in the SEC and took them to 9-4 (4-4) in 2009 and 9-4 again in 2009, everyone said he could coach and not recruit. Then he has one bad year (yes it know it was terrible) but has recruited 3 straight top 20 classes. He has an all time SEC record right at .500 and took Ark to 8 bowl games in 10 years and has recruited better at OM then Ark. Why does everyone automatically think we are going to be in the cellar of the SECw for the next 5 years?

Flame away if you wish. Honest answers would be appreciated.

Decent coach. Has good moments then ruins it with a huge failure.

ETA: I THINK he is a cool n nice guy.

Honest answer? Nutt is a good coach, but there are 3 other programs in your division that a recruiting on a consistent top 5-10 basis every year. Arkansas has a better coach and overall program. The only team Ole Miss is really on an even playing field with in the West is Miss St.

A top 20 class in the SEC is like the equivalent of a top 40 or 50 class in the Big Ten.

His offense is elementary, he can't develop QB's, and his teams run off of energy and enthusiasm and not enough on brains and planning.

Nutt is a good coach. When I heard he got the job after Coach O got fired, I said to myself they just got better.

Honest answer:

I assume that no coach in America has had as many All-Conference and All-American HB's, 1,000 yard rusher's etc... as Houston Nutt. I could be wrong. He's had many. From Cedric Cobbs to Michael Smith to Dexter McCluster and many in between.

The man knows how to run left, run right and slam a smoke draw for 80 yards.

Aside from that, I think he's a C-USA caliber football coach.

Good point. But I still think we may not win consistently against those 3 teams, but compete in win 1 or 2 every couple of years and 3 on a great year when everything goes right.

Good to average coach, good for decent (7/8/9) win seasons

Chokes in big games

Needs assistant coaching badly

Bad at motivating... I mean, you have to be cool/tough/charismatic to motivate... hell, Danny devito could motivate me more than he could.

Pretty good coach, but widely inconsistent. Can have his team extremely well prepared one week as an underdog but will lay an egg the next week as a favorite.

I never see him being a top tier coach.
