3) here's where I put on my flame suit b/c I know it will be hot in here in a minute. Malzahn and Chiz have had several small issues all season. Malzahn didn't expect it to change next year and he also was beginning to believe the only way he'd get the job he wants is to prove himself as a HC somewhere. My personal opinion based on a few conversations is that he felt it would have been ideal to wait another year, but he & Chiz had reached a point that it was just time for Gus to go (still Gus' decision, unlike Roof).
To add to this, although they had a good professional relationship, I've read in a couple of places where scheme-wise, Grimes and Gus were not very compatible. This likely made Gus's decision easier. Grimes has a fair amount of respect and influence on the staff.

4) AU fans will not agree with me, but Gus can't stand Trooper. The only coaches on that staff that can are Luper & Chiz (to a lesser degree). Trooper has feelers out to 3 schools (A&M, Miami, and UNC). If he can get an offer he's gone. That will help staff harmony as well.
Also true. I think Chizik did what he had to do with his initial hires, and that is get the talent level up, above all else. He's beginning to see two things, IMO 1) Although he's one of the best recruiters around, TT becomes less of a coach and more of a cheerleader during the season, to the detriment of our WRs and 2) it's possible to recruit well and also be a quality on the field coach.
quote:
5) Stoops had genuine interest in the AU job (for 1 year). He and Jimbo don't get along great and it would have been a good out for him. However, something happened in his one-on-one with Chizik that made him change his mind.
I think once they started talking nuts and bolts of their defensive philosophies, Chizik realized the two of them were not on the same page and that he better look elsewhere. He didn't want Roof, part II. The feeling was probably mutual. I think he is also looking for some continuity and it is well known that Stoops thinks he is ready to be a HC.

i respect chiz a little more because of all of this. he seems like he is doing the best job he can and trying to do things the right way. i think it sucks for him to have all the officious intermeddlers second guessing him. but thats the way it is at auburn.

Ok. You got me. I'm just taking specific, detailed wild assed guesses at it. Making this shite up as I go.
Get a clue, bruh.
You say that as if that doesn't happen on this site. I recall a rather popular thread last year around this time with "detailed, wild arse guesses" that were totally unsubstantiated. As I said, I never hear these things from Auburn people, as the word around Auburn usually comes from Bama fans.
I'm aware that you're somewhat connected in coaching circles around the state. Surely these rumors are straight from Auburn people's mouths, as they would be the ones with a more accurate description of the goings on in our athletic department. Right?

They won their title. They went "all-in" last year, blew their wad on Cam, and now they're broke and don't care.

I have only a small amount of HS coaches that I know. My coaching connections are almost exclusively at the college level - primarily at AU & Bama through business relationships & friendships, though I do know a few coaches outside of those two schools.

Truth. The thoughts I communicated that you are responding to (in relation to AU's staff - not to TJ's recruiting) are straight from people who are connected to that staff and other staffs. The info about Stoops being turned off by something in the one-on-one with Chiz is directly from a college coach who talked with Stoops. Truth be told, Stoops said last week "that place is a bit chaotic", and that's one of the reasons I was so confident he wouldn't take the job.

Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. The Gumps OC leaves, their DC is interviewing for jobs, and they've lost out on recruits they thought they had locked up. Of course no one thinks they are falling apart. It's nothing that a ten win season next year can't rectify.

Cam Newtons are rare and they don't come cheap. Look for them to challenge for a title sometime around 2060.

This thread is a perfect example of most of the people that don't follow major college football except for about the past 3 years
I can back up most of what bamasgot13 is saying.

So lets see - what are the facts? Everything anyone says about "falling apart" has for the most part been started by Finebaum or BOL. Nothing has come from AU that indicates "falling out". Roof - couldn't produce - whatever reason - he left as he should have - anyone disagree? Trooper and Luper are fine coaches - great recruiters and even better role models for the athletes they coach. They will look for bigger roles - their that good. Have they? I don't know and I'm not taking my work from a Bammer posing as an AU fan (they literally pay people to do this on 24/7). Malzahn was being mentored by Chizik - no reason to sit at AU another year with nothing to prove, his offense will dominate the Ark St conference, and he'll be hired by a big school with HC experience in 2yrs. Remember Chizik said the biggest challenge was adjusting to being a HC from a DC - so what better place to get his feet wet. Smart move by Gus IMO. As for recruiting...are you kidding? We're ranked 13th by ESPN - so I wouldn't consider that falling apart. The RB that flipped was orchestrated by Saban and staff which further shows you his class and how he talks out of his arse about a players word etc. I truly believe AU coaches expected it - which is why they already have a 4* - 6' 1" 220lb RB commit for this year. So personally - I'm glad we are getting two new coordinators - its fresh - and I'm glad we have Chizik, Trooper, Luper. They are battling for recruits like crazy. UA doesn't like it - that's why they flame them and say we cheat when we really know who wrote the book on cheating (see Bear). BTW, this isn't an AU fan blaming UA for everything - its just reality. If you don't think its a full ambush on AU - I got one word for ya - UPDYKE. That is who they are - from start to finish. The ESPN 30 showed you who they were - some old KKK looking dude and Updyke. OH and some puss box frat boy crying after losing to LSU.

Are Auburn fans really acting like this means nothing? Its Iron Bowl Week and Mr. Craneworks doesn't call in to Finebaum?
Come on, guys. You are giving new meaning to "head in the sand." Pat Dye has an office at Auburn. Chizik let him back in the fold. He meets with the coaches every Monday morning. Him not calling in to Finebaum is HUGE regarding the questions he doesn't want to answer or face.
Thinking otherwise is just dumb

Dude is just another ATPBer who thinks everything is a sign that Auburn is about to go down.
Dude is obsessed

You're Bama's version of Memphisplaya. You claim to have all of these inside connections but just like Memphisplaya, you have no connections and basically regurgitate things you read on other boards to get Ecred.
